2023 Genesis GV70 Reviews Summary

The definition of luxury has changed. No matter where you look in the various premium vehicle segments, there are entrants that you may not have seen decades ago. From performance SUVs to subcompact crossovers, there are new takes on upscale vehicles. But just as crucially is the entrance of new players. In 2015, the Genesis brand was officially spun off from Hyundai. And with the brand’s expansion into various segments, a compact SUV like the 2023 Genesis GV70 was a must. Competitors include the Audi Q5, BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLC, Acura RDX, Porsche Macan, and others.

The GV70 was introduced for the 2022 model year and for 2023, an all-electric model joins the lineup. We evaluated the GV70 on the whole, but with a special focus on how effective the 2023 Genesis GV70 Electrified is for the Korean automaker as an EV and as a compact luxury crossover.

2024 Nissan Rogue Reviews Summary

The Rogue is Nissan’s entry into a crowded compact crossover SUV segment that includes well-known models like the Ford Escape, Honda CR-V, Subaru Forester, and Toyota RAV4, to name a few. The 2024 Nissan Rogue debuts refreshed styling and gets a tech overhaul highlighted by Google built-in apps, marking their first appearance in a Nissan.

Verdict: New tech features may be the headline, but an impressive powertrain and interior are what really make the 2024 Nissan Rogue stand out.

Look and feel

2023 Genesis GV70

8/10

2024 Nissan Rogue

8/10

The 2023 Genesis GV70 exhibited a design that drew inspiration from its sedan counterpart, the G70, particularly above the belt-line. Its split-bar headlights and a distinctive chrome line that curved from behind the rear window were notable features that visually connected it to the G70. This chrome bar cleverly suggested a coupe-like SUV design without compromising versatility. Inside, the GV70's cabin was a testament to luxury, with top-notch materials and excellent fit and finish. The interior design was both contemporary and classic, featuring climate controls integrated into a curving bezel and a touchscreen that seamlessly rose from the dash. The GV70's dash included a full touchscreen, a rotary dial, and button controls, offering a user-friendly interface. The physical rollers on the centre console and steering wheel were a practical touch, reminiscent of older Mercedes-Benz models.

In contrast, the 2024 Nissan Rogue underwent its first major styling update since its 2021 launch. It featured a new, larger grille that blended well with its distinctive stack headlights and daytime running lights. The rear fascia received minor updates, with redesigned inner taillight elements. The Rogue's exterior was enhanced with satin-finish badging and new wheel designs, including 18-inch wheels for the SV grade and 19-inch wheels for the Platinum grade. Inside, the Rogue's dashboard was updated to accommodate a new 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, giving it a more premium feel. The Rogue SV models received new materials on various interior surfaces, contributing to a more upscale ambiance. The Platinum trim offered leather seats with quilted stitching, adding to the overall sense of luxury.

Performance

2023 Genesis GV70

7/10

2024 Nissan Rogue

6/10

The 2023 Genesis GV70 offered two powertrains: a turbocharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine producing 300 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque, and a twin-turbo 3.5-litre V6 engine delivering 375 horsepower and 391 pound-feet of torque. Both engines were paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. The turbo-four provided ample power for most driving situations, while the V6 catered to performance enthusiasts with its extra grunt and throaty engine note. The GV70 balanced comfort and sharp handling, offering a refined driving experience. The Electrified GV70 featured a 77.4-kWh battery powering two electric motors, producing a combined 429 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. It offered a smooth acceleration and a Boost Mode for an extra power surge. The electric GV70 had a range of 383 kilometres and supported DC fast charging.

The 2024 Nissan Rogue featured a 1.5-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine, part of Nissan's VC-Turbo lineup, capable of varying its compression ratio for power or fuel economy. It produced 201 horsepower and 225 pound-feet of torque, outperforming some competitors' engines. However, the Rogue's continuously variable transmission (CVT) was slow to transfer power to the wheels, affecting its overall performance. The Rogue's suspension felt firmer than expected, impacting ride quality without enhancing handling. While the engine impressed with its performance, the exhaust note was less appealing.

The front seats were comfortable, but rear legroom was tighter, requiring adjustments for a comfortable seating position.

The 2024 Nissan Rogue offered competitive passenger space, with slight variations in legroom compared to rivals. It provided 1,033 litres of cargo space with the rear seats in place and 2,098 litres with the seats folded. The dual 12.3-inch screen setup improved the infotainment experience, though the touchscreen was occasionally slow to boot up.
