2024 Toyota Sequoia Reviews Summary

The Toyota Sequoia gained a standard hybrid powertrain when it entered its third generation, just last year. While the tech updates were widely celebrated and the facelift considered unobjectionable even by its harshest critics, the move to hybrid power proved to be something of a mixed bag. Increased towing and hauling power bolstered the obvious advantage of improved fuel economy, but impact was somewhat dampened by the reduction in cargo and third-row space to accommodate the new battery.

Verdict: The Sequoia may not be the most capable full-size SUV in the segment, and it’s certainly not the most spacious. It is, however, the only hybrid in its class, and it offers a blend of seating capacity, towing power, and fuel efficiency you won’t find elsewhere—at least, not if you don’t want to go diesel.

2025 Jeep Wrangler Reviews Summary

You know what you’re getting with the Jeep Wrangler: iconic looks and legendary off-road ability but an overall package somewhat out of step with the times. Even so, it’s a model that’s continually evolving, and Jeep does its best to appeal to the broadest cross-section of customers possible. You can get a Wrangler with two-door or four-door body styles, and you have a choice between two engines and six trim levels. This year, all 2025 Wrangler models have standard power windows and door locks, the V6/automatic drivetrain returns to the lineup, while new colours include ’41 (drab green), and Mojito (bright green).

Verdict: Rough, raw, and unrefined, the 2025 Wrangler is made for adventure and getting dirty. The top comes off. The doors come off. There are drain holes in the floor so you can hose it out. This Jeep can be unpleasant to drive daily, yet we love it just the same.

Look and feel

2024 Toyota Sequoia

7/10

2025 Jeep Wrangler

6/10

The 2024 Toyota Sequoia shared its platform with the Tundra pickup, and this was evident in its design cues, such as hexagonal grilles, wheel arches, and strong fender creases. The exterior colour significantly influenced its appearance, with the Capstone model featuring more chrome brightwork. Our tester, in Celestial Silver, appeared somewhat dated, reminiscent of a "cop car." Inside, the Sequoia closely resembled the Tundra and other Toyota vehicles, with a blocky, geometric dash layout and physical controls for volume and climate. The Capstone trim boasted semi-aniline leather upholstery, while other trims offered SofTex leatherette or standard leather. All models featured power-adjustable front seats and a moonroof, with higher trims offering a panoramic version.

The 2025 Jeep Wrangler Sport S, in a black-on-black colour scheme, was not ideal for a tropical climate. However, once behind the wheel with the windows down and roof panels removed, the colour became less of an issue. The Wrangler was available in various trims, including Sport, Willys, Sahara, and Rubicon, with the Rubicon 392 discontinued in Canada after 2024. Our Sport S model had a few options, including a turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a black hardtop. Despite its high MSRP, the Wrangler's interior was functional, with a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a focus on utility. Its design, rooted in a World War II military vehicle, and off-road capability made it appealing despite its lack of sophistication.

Performance

2024 Toyota Sequoia

2025 Jeep Wrangler

The 2024 Toyota Sequoia was exclusively offered in a hybrid format, utilizing Toyota's iForce MAX hybrid powertrain. This combined a twin-turbo V6 engine with an electric motor, producing 427 horsepower and 583 lb-ft of torque. This marked an increase of 46 hp and 182 lb-ft over the previous V8 model. Fuel economy improved significantly, with a rating of 11.7 L/100 km combined with 4WD. The Sequoia featured a standard 4WD system with a selector for 4Hi, 4Lo, and 2WD, and TRD Pro models included a skid plate. The 10-speed automatic transmission operated smoothly, and the Sequoia's on-road handling was adequate. The SR5 TRD Off-Road model offered adventure-readiness with unique tires, off-road suspension, and driver-assist features. The Sequoia's maximum towing capacity was 4,137 kilograms, with several towing-related upgrades available.

The 2025 Jeep Wrangler's standard powertrain was a 3.6-litre V6 engine with a six-speed manual transmission. Alternatively, a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with an eight-speed automatic transmission was available, producing 270 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. The turbocharged engine was more fuel-efficient, with a rating of 11.0 L/100 km combined. Our evaluation of the four-cylinder model resulted in an average fuel economy of 12.3 L/100 km. The Wrangler's standard 4WD, high ground clearance, and generous approach and departure angles made it capable off-road. However, its three-star rollover resistance rating from the NHTSA was concerning. The ride was rough, and the steering felt disconnected, but the Wrangler's off-road prowess was undeniable.

Form and function

The 2024 Toyota Sequoia Capstone featured automatic power-deploying running boards, making it easier for shorter individuals to enter. Inside, the Sequoia offered a maximum of 2,460 litres of cargo space with both second- and third-row seats folded. The second-row seats were easy to move for access to the back row, and the third-row seats folded at the push of a button, though they did not create a flat load floor. Headroom was reduced due to the hybrid powertrain's battery pack, and legroom was limited in the third row. Second-row captain's chairs were available on higher trims, providing comfort but lacking bolstering.

The 2025 Jeep Wrangler posed challenges for entry and exit due to its high ground clearance and narrow door openings. Once inside, the front seats were comfortable, with cloth upholstery and optional heated features. The Wrangler accommodated five passengers, but four were more comfortable. Rear-seat legroom was adequate, but taller passengers needed to be cautious of plastic hooks. Storage space was limited, with small items often ending up in cupholders. Cargo access was cumbersome, requiring the tailgate and rear window to be opened. The four-door model offered 897 litres of cargo space, expandable to 2,050 litres with the rear seat folded.

The 2024 Toyota Sequoia Capstone was equipped with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, accessible through an 8-inch touchscreen on the SR5 trim and a 14-inch screen on higher trims. The Toyota Audio Multimedia infotainment system prioritized functionality over flashiness. A 12.3-inch driver information display was standard across all trims, and the Panoramic View monitor was included on Platinum and Capstone trims. The Capstone also featured a 10-inch colour head-up display and a 14-speaker JBL Premium Audio system.

The 2025 Jeep Wrangler's Uconnect 5 infotainment system included a 12.3-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth connectivity, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. An eight-speaker stereo was standard, with a nine-speaker Alpine premium sound system optional. Jeep Connect offered adventure guides and GPS trail logs for off-road navigation. The touchscreen remained bright and easy to use, even with the roof panels removed. The Convenience Group pack added a 7-inch digital display, passive entry, and remote engine starting. Rear parking sensors were part of the Safety Group option pack.

The 2024 Toyota Sequoia featured the Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) 2.5 suite of safety and driver-assistance features as standard. This included a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane-departure alert with steering assist, adaptive cruise control, and road-sign recognition. Front and rear parking sensors with automatic braking and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert were also standard. The only optional driver aid was a trailer backup guide with Straight-Path Assist. The Sequoia had not been rated by the IIHS or NHTSA, but the similar Toyota Tundra earned a Top Safety Pick+ designation.

The 2025 Jeep Wrangler introduced side curtain airbags as standard for front and rear seats. Advanced driver assistance systems were optional, with blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert available on most trims. Forward collision warning with automatic braking was exclusive to the Sahara trim. Adaptive cruise control and automatic high-beam headlights were also available. The Wrangler had a four-star frontal-impact rating and a three-star rollover resistance rating from the NHTSA. The IIHS rated the Wrangler Good for side-impact protection but Marginal for small overlap frontal-impact tests.
