2024 Lexus TX Reviews Summary

Lexus has sold three-row SUVs in the past. But they were either originally engineered for serious off-roading (GX), too expensive (LX), or too cramped for third-row passengers (RX L). The 2024 Lexus TX is none of these things, making it perfect for the typical three-row luxury SUV buyer who spends almost all their time on paved roads. Overall, based on our week testing a TX 350, this new Lexus SUV gets most things right.

2024 Genesis GV70 Reviews Summary

The GV70 offers style, impressive tech, and a well-executed electric variant. Launched as a 2022 model and thus still very fresh, the Genesis GV70 is the Korean luxury brand’s answer to the BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLC, Lexus NX, Volvo XC60, and other small luxury crossover SUVs. The GV70 checks most of the boxes needed to compete in this segment while offering something the competition doesn’t: an all-electric powertrain option.

Look and feel

2024 Lexus TX

7/10

2024 Genesis GV70

9/10

The 2024 Lexus TX was based on the Toyota Grand Highlander, yet it distinguished itself as a luxury SUV. Its upscale appearance was enhanced by the 22-inch wheels included in the TX 350 Executive packages, which significantly improved its presence. The styling of the TX was more conservative compared to other Lexus models, offering a toned-down design that appealed to those who found previous Lexus designs too bold. The TX was available in three model series: TX 350, TX 500h F Sport Performance, and TX 550h+ plug-in hybrid, with prices ranging from $72,036 to $87,486, although the TX 550h+ was not yet available.

In contrast, the 2024 Genesis GV70 stood out within its lineup and among competitors. It retained signature Genesis styling features like split headlights and a large grille, but was sleeker than the GV80 and less quirky than the GV60. The GV70's design included a hatchback-like rear window profile and distinctive wheel designs. It balanced SUV size with luxury-car style, surpassing competitors like the Audi Q5 and BMW X3 in finesse. The Electrified GV70, awarded the 2024 Canadian Electric Utility Vehicle of the Year, maintained the gasoline model's styling, with a grille that housed the charge port for convenient charging.

Performance

2024 Lexus TX

7/10

2024 Genesis GV70

7/10

The 2024 Lexus TX 350 was equipped with a turbocharged 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine, producing 275 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque. Lexus claimed it could accelerate to 100 km/h in about eight seconds, though it felt quicker due to its torque. The TX 350's fuel economy was rated at 10.3 litres per 100 kilometres in combined driving, but during testing, it averaged 13.8 L/100 km. The suspension provided a balance of firmness and comfort, with commendable body motion control and accurate steering. However, the brake pedal felt too soft, though it was easy to modulate.

The 2024 Genesis GV70 offered two gasoline engine options: a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder with 300 horsepower and a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 with 375 horsepower. Both engines were paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard AWD. The Electrified GV70 featured front and rear electric motors producing 429 horsepower, with a Boost Mode providing 483 horsepower. While the GV70 offered vigorous acceleration, its chassis tuning didn't match its sporty rivals. The suspension was reasonably comfortable but tended to crash on bumps. The Electrified model, despite its weight, didn't feel more ungainly than the gasoline version and offered adjustable regenerative braking.

Form and function

2024 Lexus TX

8/10

2024 Genesis GV70

8/10

The 2024 Lexus TX addressed previous shortcomings in Lexus's three-row SUVs. It offered premium semi-aniline leather and artificial suede upholstery, with heated and ventilated front seats and a heated steering wheel as standard in Canada. The second-row seat was comfortable but lacked a massage function. The third-row seat was habitable for adults, with stadium-style seating and large windows. The TX provided 572 litres of cargo space behind the third row, expanding to 1,625 litres with the third row folded, and 2,746 litres with the second row down. However, second-row legroom was limited when accommodating third-row passengers.

The 2024 Genesis GV70 offered comparable interior space to its rivals, with slightly less headroom but more front-seat legroom than some competitors. It provided 818 litres of cargo space with rear seats in place, expanding to 1,611 litres with seats folded. The Electrified GV70's interior space was minimally impacted by the battery pack. The stylish interior design limited small-item storage, but a dedicated phone storage nook and rear-seat climate controls were included. The Electrified GV70 featured automatic side bolsters for the front seats, enhancing support during spirited driving.

Technology

2024 Lexus TX

7/10

2024 Genesis GV70

9/10

The 2024 Lexus TX featured a 12.3-inch digital instrumentation panel and a digital rearview mirror, with additional features like a head-up display and surround-view camera in the Executive packages. The Lexus Interface infotainment system included a 14-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Drive Connect, a subscription service, added cloud-based navigation and a digital assistant. The TX offered free 10-year subscriptions to Service Connect and Safety Connect, and a 21-speaker Mark Levinson audio system was available.

The 2024 Genesis GV70's infotainment system featured a 14.5-inch touchscreen with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Higher trims offered a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster with a 3D effect and a 12-inch head-up display. The touchscreen had an intuitive layout, and a rotary controller was available. A fingerprint scanner allowed for individual driver profiles, though digital key functionality was not yet available for the GV70 in Canada.

Safety

2024 Lexus TX

7/10

2024 Genesis GV70

9/10

The 2024 Lexus TX was equipped with the Lexus Safety System+ 3.0, which included adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and more. Proactive Drive Assist provided braking and steering assistance, though it wasn't always transparent. Additional safety features included blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and a safe exit assist system. The traffic jam assist system offered hands-free driving at low speeds on approved highways.

The 2024 Genesis GV70 received the IIHS's Top Safety Pick+ award for both gasoline and Electrified models. NHTSA ratings were incomplete, but the gasoline GV70 received four-star frontal and rollover crash-test ratings. Standard safety features included lane-keep assist, forward-collision warning, and Highway Driving Assist. The Highway Driving Assist 2 system added automated lane-change capability and blind-spot monitoring. A safe exit assist function and a radar-based rear occupant alert system were also available.
