Reviews Summary

In its 14th generation and two years after a modest refresh, the 2026 Ford F-150 reshuffles standard and optional equipment across its eight trims, three beds, three cabs, and six powertrains. The electric F-150 Lightning ended production after the 2025 model year, leaving with it the potential for a plug-in hybrid in a future generation. For this test, we grabbed a low-level trim — the STX Lobo — to see how the F-150 fares with a traditional V8 and fewer features.

Verdict: The F-150 is the full-size truck with the most versatility and configurations on the market today.

Reviews Summary

Chevy sells a 2026 Silverado 1500 to meet almost any need, and it’s one of the only trucks in its class with a diesel engine option (the other one is the similar GMC Sierra 1500). The in-cab technology in most trim levels is also impressive. Otherwise, the Silverado falls short in key areas, including performance, fuel economy, safety, and towing technology. That said, the value equation is compelling enough to overcome these flaws—for now.

Verdict: Chevrolet needs to go back to the drawing board to design and engineer a competitive full-size pickup truck. Keep the Duramax, the Google Built-in infotainment system, the CornerStep bumpers, and the Super Cruise option. Ditch everything else because brand loyalty can’t support sales forever and time is running out.

2026 Ford F-150

7/10

2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

5/10

The 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 offered a diverse lineup with various cab styles and bed lengths, catering to a wide range of preferences. It was available in regular, extended, and crew cab styles, with options for short, standard, and long cargo beds. Buyers could choose between rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive, and the engine options included a turbocharged four-cylinder, a turbocharged diesel six-cylinder, and two V8 engines. The Silverado came in nine trim levels, from the basic WT to the off-road-ready ZR2. In Canada, prices ranged from $52,043 to $98,563, including fees. The RST 4WD model, with its crew cab and short bed, was priced at $71,043 before options. Inside, the RST was basic but functional, with modern technology and decent materials. The front bench seat allowed for six-passenger seating, and the interior design was more sophisticated than typical pickups. The column-mounted shifter was a nostalgic touch, though it obstructed access to the stereo volume knob when in Drive.

The 2026 Ford F-150 boasted nine grille styles, each with its unique flair, from the blackened Ford logo on the STX Lobo to the chrome-adorned Lariat and King Ranch. The Raptor's grille spelled "Ford" in stretched capitals, while the lower trims featured a black mesh design. The King Ranch and Platinum trims had wraparound LED headlights, and the Raptor sported amber lights and clearance lights. Wheel sizes ranged from 17 to 22 inches, with various tire options. The King Ranch offered a two-tone look, but most F-150s had a more subdued appearance. The STX trim, with its body kit and black 22-inch wheels, added a touch of style, though the Oxford White paint made it resemble a contractor's vehicle. Inside, the F-150's interior colours were mostly uninspiring, with the King Ranch's rich brown leather and the Platinum's dark tan being the exceptions. The interior featured sharp screens, analog controls, and good fit and finish, though material quality lagged behind competitors like the GMC Sierra 1500 and Ram 1500.

2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

7/10

The 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, equipped with the TurboMax turbo-four powertrain, delivered 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque, with the latter available at a low 3,000 rpm. The 2.7-litre four-cylinder engine was paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and an Autotrac 4WD system. While Natural Resources Canada rated its fuel economy at 12.8 litres per 100 kilometres in combined driving, real-world testing yielded 15.3 L/100 km on a mountainous loop. The TurboMax engine, though powerful for daily driving, lacked mid-range punch and had a less-than-pleasing sound. Its towing capacity was capped at 4,080 kilograms, while the Duramax diesel option offered up to 5,900 kilograms. The RST's steering felt disconnected, and the suspension struggled over bumps. Brake overheating was a concern during mountain driving, raising questions about its suitability for heavy towing.

The 2026 Ford F-150 excelled in towing, with a maximum capacity of 6,120 kilograms and a payload of 1,100 kilograms, depending on configuration. The turbocharged EcoBoost V6 engines, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, provided ample power for moderate towing. The base 2.7-litre turbo V6 offered 325 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque, while the 5.0-litre "Coyote" V8 delivered 400 hp and 410 lb-ft. The 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6, with 400 hp and 500 lb-ft, was the standout performer. The PowerBoost hybrid, though impressive in city fuel economy, had a clunky gas-to-electric transition. The Raptors, with their high-output engines, were built for off-road adventures. The F-150's rear leaf springs couldn't match the Ram 1500's coil springs for ride comfort, but its brakes were superior to those on GMC and Chevrolet pickups.

Form and function

2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

8/10

The 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 featured a 40/20/40 bench seat, allowing for six-passenger seating. The RST trim came with cloth upholstery, a heated steering wheel, and heated front seats. The Silverado offered ample space for taller passengers, with rear-seat legroom and thigh support. Storage options included a fold-down centre console, dash-top tray, glove compartments, and under-seat storage. The EZ Lower and Lift tailgate, CornerStep bumpers, and optional spray-in bedliner enhanced cargo-carrying capabilities.

The 2026 Ford F-150 offered three cab and bed sizes, with the Regular cab limited to the XL model. The Super Cab and SuperCrew configurations provided more versatility. The Pro Access Tailgate, with its swing-out feature, and the Pro Power Onboard system, with up to 7,200 watts of power, added functionality. The F-150's sight lines were excellent, and the front-row work surface was a clever addition. Zone Lighting and Pro Trailer Backup Assist were standout features, enhancing usability in various situations.

2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

7/10

The 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 featured two interior designs, with the RST benefiting from a modern dashboard and impressive technology. A 12.3-inch digital display and a 13.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Google Built-in were highlights. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto were supported, and a Bose premium sound system was available. The towing package included Hitch View and Hitch Guidance technology, though a semi-automated trailer reversing system was absent.

The 2026 Ford F-150 came with a 12-inch touchscreen and Sync 4 software. BlueCruise, for hands-free highway driving, was optional on select trims. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto were standard. Upper trims offered Bang & Olufsen stereos, massaging seats, and a head-up display. Remote start, a wireless charging pad, and cooled front seats were available on various trims.

Safety

2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

6/10

The 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 included Chevy's Safety Assist package, featuring forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, and lane keep assist. However, it lacked blind-spot monitors and adaptive cruise control. The IIHS rated it "Marginal" in the small overlap front test and "Poor" in the moderate overlap frontal impact test.

The 2026 Ford F-150 offered a comprehensive suite of safety features, including blind-spot monitoring, forward automatic emergency braking, and lane keep assist. Adaptive cruise control and BlueCruise were optional. The IIHS gave it a "Good" rating in small overlap and side crash tests, while the NHTSA awarded it a five-star overall safety rating.
