Reviews Summary

The 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe arrives with a restyled front and rear, including new lighting signatures, and its available diesel engine has been upgraded for more horsepower and torque. However, most shoppers will recognize the new Tahoe for its improved interior and fancy touchscreen.

Verdict: Although the Tahoe receives only mild mechanical updates for the 2025 model year, its interior takes a healthy step forward. Its primary competitors, the Ford Expedition and the Jeep Wagoneer, no longer look or feel significantly nicer. An upgraded diesel engine also helps separate the Tahoe from the field, offering impressive fuel economy (for a vehicle of this size) and excellent performance.

Reviews Summary

One year on from the latest-generation Lexus GX’s debut, the excitement is still there. The 2025 Lexus GX looks great, drives well, and handles itself incredibly well off-road. The latter is something for which that the GX has always been renowned, at least among those who’ve been inclined to find out.

Verdict: With great standard tech, safety equipment, looks, and overall versatility, the Lexus GX is worth the attention of any shopper who’s in the market for a luxury SUV.

2025 Chevrolet Tahoe

8/10

2025 Lexus GX

10/10

The 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe continued its legacy as a popular SUV, largely due to its brand equity and practical capabilities. Since its inception in 1995, the Tahoe has been a top choice for those needing a vehicle that can tow substantial loads while accommodating up to nine passengers. Chevrolet maintained a conservative approach in refreshing the Tahoe’s design, introducing a new grille and updated lighting elements across its six trim levels. The Z71 trim, which we primarily tested, stood out with its rugged features like full-length skid plates, front recovery hooks, and a 2.5-centimetre lift, enhancing its off-road appeal. Inside, the Tahoe boasted a new 17.7-inch touchscreen, complemented by a redesigned dashboard with stylish climate controls and a steering-column-mounted shifter, offering a blend of modern tech and traditional functionality.

The 2025 Lexus GX underwent a significant redesign, presenting a striking new look reminiscent of classic Land Rover models. Its bold exterior featured LED headlights and a large grille, while the Overtrail+ package added 33-inch tires and rock rails for enhanced off-road capability. Inside, the GX exuded luxury with its clean design, quality switchgear, and ample headroom. The seats, upholstered in NuLuxe faux leather, offered heating, ventilation, and massaging functions, ensuring comfort for all passengers. The GX’s visibility was excellent, aided by tall windows and an elevated ride height, making it a standout choice for those seeking a luxurious yet rugged SUV.

The 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe offered a choice between two V8 engines and a diesel option, making it one of the last full-size SUVs to feature a naturally aspirated V8. The 5.3-litre V8 delivered 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, while the 6.2-litre V8 provided 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. The 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder diesel engine, available in several trims, produced 305 horsepower and 495 lb-ft of torque, offering impressive fuel efficiency at 9.7 litres per 100 kilometres on the highway. All engines were paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, and the Tahoe featured light steering and various suspension options, including Magnetic Ride Control and Air Ride adaptive suspension, enhancing its driving dynamics.

The 2025 Lexus GX was powered by a twin-turbo 3.4-litre V6 engine, generating 349 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and full-time four-wheel drive. The GX accelerated from 0-100 km/h in approximately 6.5 seconds, showcasing its robust performance despite its 2,570-kilogram curb weight. The GX’s fuel economy was rated at 15.3 litres per 100 kilometres in the city and 11.2 on the highway, with an average of 19.0 L/100 km during mixed driving. Its adaptive dampers and double-wishbone suspension provided a comfortable ride, while its off-road capabilities were enhanced by features like a locking centre differential and downhill assist control, making it a versatile choice for both urban and off-road adventures.

Form and function

2025 Lexus GX

9/10

The 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe was designed for those needing to transport large groups and tow heavy loads. With the 5.3-litre V8 and Max Trailering package, it could tow up to 3,810 kilograms, while the diesel variant offered a range of over 900 kilometres on the highway. The Tahoe’s cargo capacity was impressive, with up to 3,474 litres available with all seats folded. However, with all seats in use, the cargo space was limited to 722 litres. The Tahoe also offered a 24-inch wheel option, requiring Magnetic Ride Control for improved ride quality, though it added to the vehicle’s cost.

The 2025 Lexus GX provided ample interior space, with generous headroom and legroom for front and rear passengers. The GX’s cargo capacity was a highlight, offering up to 2,563 litres with the second row folded in the Overtrail packages. Its towing capacity of 4,111 kilograms made it suitable for adventurous outings. Despite its spacious interior, the GX maintained a manageable footprint, making it easier to park in tight spaces. Its dimensions were comparable to competitors like the Land Rover Defender 110 and BMW X5, but it offered superior ease of parking and manoeuvrability.

Technology

2025 Chevrolet Tahoe

8/10

2025 Lexus GX

9/10

The 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe featured a significant upgrade in its in-vehicle technology, highlighted by a 17.7-inch touchscreen, an 11-inch driver information screen, and an optional 15-inch head-up display. Standard features included wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, with Google Built-in offering seamless integration of Google Maps and other apps. However, the user experience had some drawbacks, such as a cluttered steering wheel and a non-intuitive driver information display. Despite these issues, the Tahoe represented a major technological leap forward, though the premium Bose sound system fell short compared to rivals.

The 2025 Lexus GX offered a user-friendly tech experience, with a 12.3-inch gauge cluster and a 14-inch infotainment touchscreen providing clear graphics and smooth operation. Standard features included wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth, with a Mark Levinson Premium Audio system available in higher trims. The GX also featured six USB-C ports for connectivity and charging, and the Executive and Overtrail+ packages included a cooled armrest storage compartment, enhancing its practicality and convenience.

Safety

The 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe had not been crash-tested by the NHTSA or IIHS at the time of writing, but the 2024 model received four out of five stars from the NHTSA and an Acceptable rating from the IIHS. The Tahoe came equipped with a comprehensive suite of standard Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, including automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and a surround-view camera. GM’s Super Cruise hands-free driving tech was available, though not included in early 2025 models.

The 2025 Lexus GX featured the Lexus Safety System+ 3.0, offering adaptive cruise control, lane-centring assistance, and other driver-assist features. The GX’s safety systems operated smoothly, even on challenging roads, and included pedestrian detection and a 360-degree camera system in the Overtrail+ package. While the GX had not been rated by the NHTSA or IIHS, it was equipped with 10 airbags for occupant protection.
