2023 Genesis GV70 Reviews SummaryThe definition of luxury has changed. No matter where you look in the various premium vehicle segments, there are entrants that you may not have seen decades ago. From performance SUVs to subcompact crossovers, there are new takes on upscale vehicles. But just as crucially is the entrance of new players. In 2015, the Genesis brand was officially spun off from Hyundai. And with the brand’s expansion into various segments, a compact SUV like the 2023 Genesis GV70 was a must. Competitors include the Audi Q5, BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLC, Acura RDX, Porsche Macan, and others. The GV70 was introduced for the 2022 model year and for 2023, an all-electric model joins the lineup. We evaluated the GV70 on the whole, but with a special focus on how effective the 2023 Genesis GV70 Electrified is for the Korean automaker as an EV and as a compact luxury crossover.
2024 Genesis GV80 Reviews SummaryGenesis introduced the GV80 in 2021, and the crossover SUV is getting a minor refresh in 2025. Still, the 2024 GV80 remains a good choice unless you want to wait for the fancier styling, more high-tech interior, or new supercharged GV80 Coupe coming next year. Otherwise, today’s GV80 is pretty much the same as tomorrow’s GV80, and in some respects, it is the more elegant and traditional choice. Verdict: Based on our evaluation of the 2024 Genesis GV80, seat comfort is not what it should be. Also, to use Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, you need a USB cable. This Genesis is thirsty, too. But otherwise, we have few complaints about this stylish, safe, and mostly rewarding midsize luxury SUV.

The 2023 Genesis GV70 was a striking compact luxury SUV that drew design inspiration from its sedan counterpart, the G70. Its styling featured split-bar headlights and a distinctive chrome line that elegantly curved from behind the rear window, giving it a coupe-like appearance without sacrificing versatility. Inside, the GV70's cabin was a testament to luxury, with high-quality materials and impeccable fit and finish. The interior design was both modern and timeless, with climate controls integrated into a curving bezel and a touchscreen that seamlessly emerged from the dashboard. The GV70's dash was equipped with a full touchscreen, complemented by a rotary dial and button controls on the centre console, offering a tactile experience superior to the touch capacitive controls found in some competitors.
In contrast, the 2024 Genesis GV80 exuded luxury with its available diamond-stitched Nappa leather, suede headliner, and metallic-finish accents. The GV80's exterior offered six colour options and stylish 22-inch wheel designs, underscoring its status as a flagship SUV. The interior featured ambient lighting, a 3D digital instrument cluster, and a wide touchscreen display for infotainment. While the GV80 was unmistakably a luxury vehicle, the Prestige Signature trim available in the U.S. did not offer significant advantages over the regular Prestige trim, which was recommended for Canadian buyers. The GV80's design and features made it a compelling choice for those seeking a luxurious driving experience.

The 2023 Genesis GV70 offered two powertrains: a turbocharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine producing 300 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque, and a twin-turbo 3.5-litre V6 engine delivering 375 horsepower and 391 pound-feet of torque. Both engines were paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. The turbo-four provided ample power for most driving situations, while the V6 catered to performance enthusiasts with its extra grunt and throaty engine note. The GV70 balanced comfort and sharp handling, offering a refined driving experience. The Electrified GV70 featured a 77.4-kWh battery, dual electric motors, and a combined output of 429 horsepower, with a Boost Mode increasing it to 483 horsepower. It had a range of 383 kilometres and supported fast charging.
The 2024 Genesis GV80 also offered two engine options: a turbocharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine with 300 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque, and a twin-turbo 3.5-litre V6 engine producing 375 horsepower and 391 pound-feet of torque. Both engines were mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. The GV80 featured five driving modes and a ground clearance of 20.5 centimetres, with a towing capacity of up to 2,720 kilograms. The 3.5T model included upgraded front brakes and an adaptive damping suspension, providing a rewarding driving experience. The GV80 excelled in urban and suburban settings, offering swift acceleration and a sporty feel, though the steering was unremarkable.
The 2023 Genesis GV70 provided 1,611 litres of cargo space with the rear seats folded and 818 litres with the seats in use, making it competitive in the compact luxury SUV segment. It featured a hands-free power liftgate, large cupholders in the centre console, and a retractable tray. While front-seat comfort was commendable, rear-seat legroom was tighter, requiring front-row occupants to adjust their seats for rear passenger comfort. The rear bench could recline for added comfort.
In 2024, the Genesis GV80 3.5T Prestige offered a third-row seat, with real or Nappa leather upholstery depending on the trim. Standard features included heated and ventilated front seats, heated outboard rear seats, a heated steering wheel, a panoramic sunroof, triple-zone climate control, and a power hands-free liftgate. However, the seats were less comfortable for long trips, and rear-seat legroom was limited. The GV80 provided 988 litres of cargo space behind the second row, expanding to 2,378 litres with the seats folded.
The 2023 Genesis GV70 featured a 14.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. The touchscreen was user-friendly, with large icons and logical menu navigation. The GV70 also included four USB ports, wireless device charging, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and a nine-speaker stereo system. Available features included ambient lighting, a digital instrument panel, a Lexicon 18-speaker audio system, and the Genesis digital key.
The 2024 Genesis GV80 offered a 14.5-inch touchscreen infotainment display, with a round control dial on the centre console for ease of use. The standard package included navigation, SiriusXM satellite radio, and wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The GV80 also featured Genesis Connected Services, wireless smartphone charging, and a digital key system. The Prestige trim included a 12.3-inch digital instrument display, a Lexicon premium sound system, and a head-up display, with plans to switch to Bang & Olufsen components in 2025.
The 2023 Genesis GV70 came equipped with a comprehensive suite of safety features, including forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, driver attention monitoring, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and highway driving assist with lane-keeping assist. The 2.5T Advance Plus added a blind-spot camera system and a 360-degree parking camera system, while the Prestige grade included reverse automatic emergency braking. The Electrified GV70 included much of this equipment as standard. The GV70 received a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the IIHS.
The 2024 Genesis GV80 offered numerous advanced driving-assistance systems, such as a Blind-Spot View Monitor, Remote Smart Parking Assist, and Highway Driving Assist. The Blind-Spot View Monitor displayed a video feed within the digital instrument panel, while the Remote Smart Parking Assist allowed the GV80 to park itself. The GV80 received a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the IIHS and a five-star overall rating from the NHTSA, with four-star ratings for frontal-impact tests.
