2022 Jeep Wrangler Reviews Summary

For a long time, the Jeep Wrangler represented a vehicle class of one. Where else could you get a two-door or four-door convertible with removable doors, a fold-down windshield, and go-anywhere off-roading capability wrapped in retro styling cues? Today, the Ford Bronco meets that same description and, in some ways, it's superior to the 2022 Jeep Wrangler. But we love this anachronistic throwback of an SUV anyway, warts and all, even if the overall rating appears to suggest otherwise. And a handful of changes to the 2022 Wrangler do nothing but further cement our appreciation of this formerly one-of-a-kind vehicle.

2023 Genesis GV70 Reviews Summary

The definition of luxury has changed. No matter where you look in the various premium vehicle segments, there are entrants that you may not have seen decades ago. From performance SUVs to subcompact crossovers, there are new takes on upscale vehicles. But just as crucially is the entrance of new players. In 2015, the Genesis brand was officially spun off from Hyundai. And with the brand’s expansion into various segments, a compact SUV like the 2023 Genesis GV70 was a must. Competitors include the Audi Q5, BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLC, Acura RDX, Porsche Macan, and others.

The GV70 was introduced for the 2022 model year and for 2023, an all-electric model joins the lineup. We evaluated the GV70 on the whole, but with a special focus on how effective the 2023 Genesis GV70 Electrified is for the Korean automaker as an EV and as a compact luxury crossover.

2022 Jeep Wrangler

9/10

2023 Genesis GV70

8/10

The 2022 Jeep Wrangler offered a choice between a classic two-door or a more practical four-door body style. Buyers could select from a variety of powertrains, including a turbocharged four-cylinder, a gasoline-powered V6, a turbodiesel V6, a gas V8, or the Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid. The standard six-speed manual transmission could be upgraded to an eight-speed automatic. Four-wheel drive was standard, with multiple systems available depending on the trim level. The Wrangler came in four core trims: Sport, Sport S, Sahara, and Rubicon, with numerous special editions like the Willys and Willys Sport. The High Tide model, based on the four-door Sport S trim, featured options like LED exterior lighting and a body-colour hardtop. Despite its rugged appeal, the Wrangler's interior was basic, with a focus on durability over luxury.

The 2023 Genesis GV70, on the other hand, was a compact luxury SUV with styling cues from the G70 sedan. Its interior was a testament to luxury, featuring top-notch materials and a contemporary yet classic design. The GV70's cabin was equipped with a full touchscreen backed by a rotary dial and button controls, offering a user-friendly experience. Available in five trims in Canada, the GV70 offered two powertrains: the 2.5T and 3.5T, with the Electrified GV70 as a separate model. The base 2.5T Advanced trim was well-equipped, while higher trims added features like a Lexicon premium audio system and Nappa leather seating. The Electrified GV70 impressed with its luxury credentials, featuring cream-coloured seats with quilt stitching and a high-contrast interior design.

2022 Jeep Wrangler

7/10

2023 Genesis GV70

7/10

The 2022 Jeep Wrangler was powered by a 3.6-litre V6 engine with eTorque mild-hybrid electrification, producing 285 horsepower at 6,400 rpm and 260 lb-ft of torque at 4,800 rpm. It featured an eight-speed automatic transmission and the optional Selec-Trac full-time 4WD system. Fuel consumption was rated at 11.2 litres per 100 kilometres in combined driving, but real-world testing showed an average of 14.0 L/100 km. The Wrangler's driving experience was unique, offering an immersive and rugged ride that appealed to off-road enthusiasts. However, it was known for its loud cabin, vague steering, and touchy brakes, which were part of its charm for those seeking adventure.

The 2023 Genesis GV70 offered two engine options: a turbocharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder with 300 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque, and a twin-turbo 3.5-litre V6 with 375 horsepower and 391 lb-ft of torque. Both engines were paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. The Electrified GV70 featured a 77.4-kWh battery powering two electric motors, delivering a combined 429 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque, with a Boost Mode increasing output to 483 horsepower. The electric GV70 had a range of 383 kilometres and could charge from 10% to 80% in 18 minutes on a fast charger. The GV70 offered a refined driving experience, blending comfort and handling, with the electric version leaning slightly more towards comfort.

Form and function

2022 Jeep Wrangler

4/10

2023 Genesis GV70

6/10

The 2022 Jeep Wrangler's interior was rugged, with comfortable seats and durable cloth upholstery. However, getting in and out was challenging, especially with a raised suspension. The driving position was close to the steering wheel and dashboard, requiring acclimation. Visibility was mixed, with some areas requiring leaning forward to see traffic lights. Rear-seat passengers faced similar entry challenges but found agreeable accommodations once inside. Cargo space was generous, with 898 litres behind the rear seat and 2,050 litres with the rear seat folded.

The 2023 Genesis GV70 offered 1,611 litres of cargo space with the rear seats folded and 818 litres with the seats in use. The GV70 featured a hands-free power liftgate and ample storage options, including large cupholders and a centre console tray. Front-seat passengers found it easy to adjust to a comfortable position, but rear-seat legroom was tighter, requiring front-row occupants to slide their seats forward. The rear bench reclined for added comfort.

The 2023 Genesis GV70 featured a 14.5-inch touchscreen with navigation, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. The system was user-friendly, with large icons and logical menu navigation.
