The 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer shared its frame and body shell with the standard Wagoneer, resulting in a similar traditional SUV styling. It featured a tall hood, broad shoulders, trapezoidal wheel arches, and an upright profile. However, the Grand Wagoneer distinguished itself with a standard black roof, model-specific hood, front fascia, and grille. The grille leaned forward slightly with laser-etched knurling, and the wheel centre caps had an acrylic glass covering to protect the “Wagoneer” logo. The interior boasted high-end materials and convenience features, including 24-way power front seats with memory, massage, lumbar support, and four-way power headrests. Nappa leather upholstery was standard, with higher-grade Palermo leather available, along with aluminum and American Walnut wood trim.

The 2022 Lexus GX, despite its modern signature spindle grille and triple-beam LED headlights, retained a design reminiscent of its first-generation model from 2002. The cabin, however, was crafted with the smooth refinement Lexus was known for, offering a quiet ride with minimal engine noise. The GX 460 was available in Standard, Premium, and Executive trims, with prices ranging from $72,100 to $83,750. The Black Line Special Edition, based on the GX 460 Premium, started at $80,550. The interior featured high-quality materials, and the GX was praised for its comfortable seating and clear outward visibility, although some switchgear was considered outdated.

The 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer was powered by a 6.4-litre Hemi V8 engine, delivering 471 horsepower and 455 lb-ft of torque. It featured cylinder deactivation for improved fuel efficiency and was paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The Grand Wagoneer could accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in approximately six seconds, despite its hefty weight of around 2,900 kilograms. The Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS) enhanced the GX’s off-road capabilities and stability. Despite its age, the GX remained agreeable to drive, with refined ride and handling on pavement and impressive off-road capabilities. However, the steering was slow and heavy, and the brake pedal was touchy.

The 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer offered seating for seven with standard second-row captain’s chairs or eight with an optional third-row bench seat. It provided more third-row headroom and second-row legroom than competitors like the Cadillac Escalade, Lincoln Navigator, and Infiniti QX80. The third-row seat was challenging to access and uncomfortable for adults, and it reduced cargo space. The GX had a cargo area of 328 litres behind the third-row seat, 1,322 litres with the third row stowed, and 1,833 litres with the second-row seat folded down. The side-opening tailgate was heavy and not power-operated.

The 2022 Lexus GX introduced a new 10.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, eliminating the need for the old Remote Touch Interface touchpad. It included standard Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, navigation, and a CD player. The Lexus app was smartwatch-compatible, and Lexus Enform connected services included a WiFi hotspot. The infotainment display offered a dual-screen view, and the voice recognition technology was quick and accurate.
