2022 Buick Encore GX Reviews Summary

The Encore GX small SUV debuted for the 2020 model year, slotting in just above the best-selling Encore subcompact crossover and below the Envision in Buick's four-SUV lineup. Other than four new extra-cost exterior paint colours, the 2022 Encore GX is a complete carryover from 2021.

2022 Nissan Rogue Reviews Summary

The 2022 Nissan Rogue is a two-row crossover compact SUV with frameless, unibody construction, riding on a platform that was all-new for 2021 and shared with the next-generation Mitsubishi Outlander. It comes with front-wheel drive (FWD) or available all-wheel drive (AWD) and in five trim levels. In Canada, FWD prices start at $29,148 before the $1,860 destination fees and AWD at $31,448, equating to a $650 increase for both models compared to the 2021 model year. All-wheel drive costs $2,300 on lower trim levels and is standard on higher trims. And those prices include a new, more powerful engine and a new transmission. At a fuel consumption as low as 7.2 litres per 100 kilometres combined, the 2022 Rogue is the current leader in its non-hybrid compact crossover SUV class.

Look and feel

2022 Buick Encore GX

8/10

2022 Nissan Rogue

7/10

The 2022 Buick Encore GX shared a strong family resemblance with its sibling, the Encore. Both SUVs featured Buick's signature trapezoidal "waterfall" grille, high beltline, and similar headlight styling. The Encore GX, however, was slightly longer, giving it a more balanced appearance. The optional ST (Sport Touring) package enhanced its sporty look with custom grilles, sport bumpers, and 18-inch aluminum wheels. Inside, the Encore GX offered a comfortable cabin with soft-touch materials and leather upholstery on higher trims. The controls were straightforward, though some found the rotary toggles a bit cumbersome.

The 2022 Nissan Rogue continued its mature styling from the previous year, resembling other Nissan models like the Pathfinder. It featured a V-motion grille, multi-level LED headlights, and a sleek floating roof design. The interior boasted a sophisticated layered dash and a spacious centre console with an electronic gear selector. The Rogue's Zero Gravity front seats provided comfort, and the second row offered ample legroom. Fit and finish were exemplary, especially in the top Platinum model.

Paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive, it delivered adequate power, though it was a bit noisy. The ride was less settled than expected, with noticeable noise and vibration despite Buick's QuietTuning technology.

The 2022 Nissan Rogue featured a new 1.5-litre VC-Turbo engine with 201 horsepower and 225 lb-ft of torque. This engine improved performance significantly over the previous model. The Rogue's CVT had wider gear ratios, enhancing acceleration and responsiveness. Fuel efficiency was impressive, with estimates of 7.8 L/100 km city and 6.5 highway. The Rogue's chassis and suspension provided a smooth ride with minimal body roll.
