Is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class earns a 4.7/5 user rating and an 8.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Technology and Safety.

Is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a car that feels dependable in daily use, with many buyers praising its comfortable interior and advanced features. The expert assessment also describes it as a quiet and excellent choice for a car this size, which supports the sense that it is built to be easy to live with over the long term.

The main ownership risk for used buyers is cost: this is a complex, expensive luxury car, so repairs and upkeep can be more demanding than on a mainstream model.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The cabin is richly finished even in baser trims, but the Luxury package’s smaller wheels and softer-riding, slightly taller suspension are no longer part of the classic hood-ornament look. If you want the most traditional Mercedes feel, pay close attention to how the car is equipped.
• Powertrain: The E350 uses a 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder that is fine for everyday driving but underwhelming for a luxury car at this price. The E450’s electrified 3.0-litre inline-six is quiet and excellent, while the AMG E53 adds stronger performance with 429 hp and 384 lb-ft.
• Safety package: Forward automatic emergency braking, a driver-attention monitor, and blind-spot monitoring are standard. Other driver-assist features are optional, so check carefully for the equipment you want.
• Infotainment: The 2021 update brings MBUX with touch, swipe, and voice control, plus two 12-inch screens and a standard digital instrument display. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, but they are not wireless, and the system does not update over the air.
• Fuel efficiency: The E53 sedan is rated at 9.5 L/100 km combined, while the E63 sedan is rated at 12.8 L/100 km combined. The E450 4Matic sedan returns 9.2 L/100 km combined, and the E350 4Matic sedan returns 9.4 L/100 km combined.

Which 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class trim should I buy?

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is offered in 13 trim levels: E350, E450 4Matic, Mercedes-AMG E53, Mercedes-AMG E63 S, sedan, wagon, coupe, and convertible.

Here's the short version:

• E350: This is the entry point, and it makes sense if you want the E-Class experience with the least complexity. It still gives you the upscale cabin and the updated tech, but the four-cylinder engine is the least convincing part of the lineup.
• E450 4Matic: This is the best-value choice for most shoppers. The electrified inline-six is quiet, strong, and better suited to the car’s luxury mission, while the standard AWD adds all-weather confidence.
• Mercedes-AMG E53: Choose this if you want a sharper, faster E-Class without jumping all the way to the top-performance model. It adds serious pace, rear-biased AWD, and variable-rate air suspension, but it is less efficient and more expensive to run.
• Mercedes-AMG E63 S: This is the full-performance choice, with a hand-built V8, 603 hp, and a much more aggressive chassis. It is the one to buy only if outright performance matters more than comfort, cost, or restraint.

Forward automatic emergency braking, a driver-attention monitor, and blind-spot monitoring are standard, while other driver-assist features remain optional.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it rewards patience and comparison shopping.

• Deal availability: 38.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 81 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 20.09% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $62,239 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class's resale value?

The current average of $62,239 CAD sits slightly below last year's $77,891 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the car more attractive to used buyers today. For a future seller, it also means there may be less room for appreciation unless the vehicle is especially well equipped or exceptionally clean.

Because the E-Class is a desirable luxury model with strong owner satisfaction, demand should remain healthy for the right example. Well-kept cars with the most appealing equipment and powertrains should hold their value better than bare-bones or heavily used ones.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class safe?

The 2021 E-Class sedan and wagon earn a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in frontal and side crash tests and for rollover vulnerability, though the driver's side received a four-star rating in the frontal crash test.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Forward automatic emergency braking, a driver-attention monitor, and blind-spot monitoring are standard. Other driver-assist features are optional, and some safety features are not available from any other automaker. The 2020 E-Class sedan was rated a Top Safety Pick+ by IIHS, but the 2021 text does not repeat that result for this model year.

Should I buy a 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 38.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 20.09% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 refresh updates the infotainment system, engines, and exterior styling.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $54,496 CAD, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $62,239 CAD average.
• It changes very little after the 2021 refresh.

The bottom line: The 2021 is the better pick if you want the refreshed E-Class experience with stronger tech and broader powertrain choice. If your priority is spending less and you do not need the latest update, the 2022 is the simpler value play.
