Why it stands out
The 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class stands out as a luxury mid-size car that leans heavily into technology, comfort, and prestige. It offers a refined cabin with mega-comfortable seats, top-quality materials, and vast legroom, while standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, a blind-spot warning system, and a 14.4-inch central touchscreen help it feel thoroughly modern. The design is also more distinctive than before, with unusually shaped headlights and a black front grille surround, and the interior can be even more dramatic thanks to ambient lighting and an optional third screen for the front passenger.
For 2020, the model range is relatively small but still varied enough to cover different needs. The E350 sedan comes with standard all-wheel drive in Canada, a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with 255 horsepower, mild-hybrid technology, and a nine-speed automatic transmission. The E450 4Matic sedan uses a 3.0-litre inline-six-cylinder engine with 375 horsepower and also has mild-hybrid technology and a nine-speed automatic. Buyers wanting serious performance can look to the Mercedes-AMG E 53 Hybrid, which arrived for the 2025 model year with 577 horsepower, 553 lb-ft of torque, and a 0 to 100 km/h time of four seconds.
As a used buy, the 2020 E-Class is appealing because it delivers a lot of luxury and advanced equipment, but it is still a relatively new model, so there are not many examples on the market yet. That also means there is not much long-term reliability history to lean on, although any problems should be covered by Mercedes-Benz’s four-year/80,000-kilometre new car warranty. Its main drawback is price: even used examples should still command a substantial premium, which fits the car’s upscale positioning.

Missing adaptive cruise and ventilated seats, but the price, mileage and features made up for it. Comparable vehicles are Audi A6 and BMW 5 series with 4 cylinder engines.
