How much does the 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD cost?

Prices have softened 6.54% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 202 listings available, which gives you a decent amount of choice in the used market.

Is the 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD a good car?

Generally — the 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD earns 4.2/5 from owners and 8/10 from our experts. The model scores 9/10 across Technology and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its capability, professional-grade character, and the value it offers. The Sierra 2500HD is aimed at you if you want maximum towing and payload ability with a more upscale cabin than a typical heavy-duty pickup.

The trade-offs are clear: it can feel thirsty on fuel, and its size makes parking and low-speed manoeuvring more cumbersome than a lighter-duty truck.

With 28.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still enough market activity to help you shop selectively.

Is the 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD reliable?

Owners rate it 4.2/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a truck that feels dependable in day-to-day use, with strong capability and a professional-grade character that buyers tend to trust over time. The expert assessment also highlights a refined powertrain and a transmission that stays composed without hunting for gears.

If you plan to keep one for the long haul, the main ownership risk is that heavy-duty diesel upkeep and repair exposure can be more consequential than on a lighter truck, so a careful service history matters.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Denali Ultimate is the top trim and brings nearly every available option, while the rest of the lineup ranges from more work-focused versions to luxury-oriented trims. You also get standard LED headlights and taillights, sequential turn signals, and the MultiPro Tailgate on the Denali Ultimate.
• Powertrain: You’re looking at a 6.6-litre Duramax turbocharged diesel V8 with 470 horsepower and 975 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 10-speed Allison automatic transmission and standard 4WD. It also includes a locking rear differential, two-speed transfer case, all-terrain tires, heavy-duty air filter, underbody skid plates, hill descent control, and a diesel exhaust brake.
• Safety package: The Sierra HD comes standard with automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, and lane departure warning. On the Denali Ultimate, front and rear parking sensors, a surround-view parking camera, adaptive cruise control, rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring, and a rear-facing cargo bed camera are standard.
• Infotainment: The Denali Ultimate uses a 13.4-inch screen, plus wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless device charging, Google built-in, a 15-inch multi-colour head-up display, and a 12-speaker Bose surround-sound system. It also adds ProGrade trailering with 14 camera views.
• Fuel efficiency: During long highway stints, the Duramax diesel dipped as low as 11.2 litres per 100 kilometres, while suburban and city driving could climb well beyond 20 L/100 km.

Which 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD trim should I buy?

The 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD is offered in 7 trim levels: Pro, SLE, SLT, AT4, Denali, AT4X, and Denali Ultimate.

Here's the short version:

• Pro: This is the most basic path into the Sierra 2500HD lineup, so it makes sense if you want the truck’s core heavy-duty capability and plan to add only the equipment you truly need.
• SLE: This is the sensible step up if you want a better balance of equipment and value without jumping into the more expensive luxury trims.
• SLT: This trim suits you if you want a more polished daily experience and are willing to pay for extra comfort and convenience.
• AT4: Choose this if you want the off-road-oriented character in the lineup, with the tougher hardware and standard 4WD that come with it.
• Denali: This is the better fit if you want a premium cabin and upscale feel without going all the way to the top trim.
• AT4X: Pick this if you want the most rugged off-road-focused version and are willing to pay for the added hardware.
• Denali Ultimate: This is the best-value choice if you want the most complete luxury-and-tech package and don’t mind paying for it; it’s the trim that best matches the truck’s upscale mission.

The Denali Ultimate is the only trim with the full luxury-and-tech treatment described here, and it also comes standard with the most complete safety and trailering equipment.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 28.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 202 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.54% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $76,712 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD's resale value?

The current average of $77,504 CAD sits slightly below last year's $82,931 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has become a little more favourable for buyers, which can make future resale a bit more competitive for sellers. If you buy at the right price now, you may have less downside risk than someone who paid closer to last year’s average.

The truck’s strong capability and premium appeal should help it stay desirable among shoppers who need heavy-duty towing and want a more upscale cabin. That said, resale will still depend heavily on trim, condition, mileage, and how well the truck has been maintained.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.2/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD safe?

The 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The Sierra HD comes standard with automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, and lane departure warning. On the Denali Ultimate, front and rear parking sensors, a surround-view parking camera, adaptive cruise control, rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring, and a rear-facing cargo bed camera are standard.

That means the top trim gives you the fullest safety and driver-assistance package in the lineup, while lower trims leave some of those features as optional equipment.

Should I buy a 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 28.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.54% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.2/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2024 model year adds the Denali Ultimate trim, which brings nearly every available option and sits at the top of the lineup.

The bottom line: If you want the most upscale version of the Sierra 2500HD with strong owner satisfaction and a softer used-market price than last year, the 2024 is the one to target. If you’re more price-sensitive, a lower trim can still give you the core heavy-duty capability without paying for the full luxury package.
