How much does the 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD cost?

Prices have softened 6.23% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 204 listings available, which suggests you have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD a good car?

Generally — the 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD earns 4.2/5 from owners and 8/10 from our experts. The model scores 9/10 across Technology and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its professional-grade capability, impressive features, and the value it offers. In practical terms, that lines up well with a truck aimed at buyers who want maximum towing and payload capability without giving up a luxury-oriented cabin.

The main trade-offs are its thirst for fuel and its barge-like feel when parking, both of which come with the heavy-duty mission. Even so, the market shows 28.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD reliable?

Owners rate it 4.2/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a truck that feels dependable in day-to-day use, with strong capability and a reputation for being a vehicle you can count on for serious work. The expert drive notes also describe the powertrain as refined and well matched to the truck’s job, which supports confidence in how it should hold up under heavy-duty use.

That said, used buyers should still pay close attention to maintenance history and how the truck was used, since heavy-duty towing and hauling can accelerate wear over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Denali Ultimate adds nearly every available option and brings a luxury-oriented cabin, standard LED headlights and taillights, sequential turn signals, the MultiPro Tailgate, and the six-passenger Crew Cab layout. Lower trims do not get the same level of equipment, so you should compare feature content carefully if you want the upscale experience.
• Powertrain: This version is powered exclusively by a 6.6-litre Duramax turbocharged diesel V8 with 470 horsepower and 975 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 10-speed Allison automatic transmission and standard 4WD. It also includes a locking rear differential, two-speed transfer case, all-terrain tires, heavy-duty air filter, underbody skid plates, hill descent control, and a diesel exhaust brake.
• Safety package: The truck comes standard with automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, front and rear parking sensors, a surround-view parking camera, adaptive cruise control, rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring, and a rear-facing cargo bed camera. These features are standard on the Denali Ultimate, while some are optional on lower trims.
• Infotainment: You get a 13.4-inch screen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless device charging, Google built-in, a 15-inch multi-colour head-up display, a 12-speaker Bose surround-sound audio system, and split-screen navigation. The truck also includes trailer-focused tech such as hitch guidance, hitch view, and the ProGrade trailering system with 14 camera views.
• Fuel efficiency: During long highway stints, the Duramax diesel dipped as low as 11.2 litres per 100 kilometres, while suburban and city driving could climb well beyond 20 L/100 km.

Which 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD trim should I buy?

The 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD is offered in 7 trim levels: Pro, SLE, SLT, AT4, Denali, AT4X, and Denali Ultimate.

Here's the short version:

• Pro: This is the entry point, but it is the least likely to deliver the upscale feel that defines the Sierra HD lineup. If you want the truck mainly for work and plan to keep costs down, it is the starting point to compare against.
• SLE: This is the first step up if you want a more usable everyday truck without jumping straight to the luxury end of the range. It makes sense if you want to balance price and equipment.
• SLT: This is the trim to consider if you want a stronger mix of comfort and capability before the price climbs into premium territory. It is the most natural value-oriented middle ground in the lineup.
• AT4: This is the off-road-oriented choice, and it is the one to look at if you want the tougher hardware and standard 4WD character that comes with that positioning.
• Denali: This is the trim for buyers who want a more premium cabin and a more upscale ownership experience without going all the way to the top.
• AT4X: This is the upgraded off-road trim, so it suits you if you want the most rugged version of the Sierra HD lineup.
• Denali Ultimate: This is the best fit if you want the most luxurious and most comprehensively equipped version, with nearly every available option included. It is the top-of-the-line choice and the one that best matches the truck’s premium mission.

The safety package is standard on the Denali Ultimate, while some of those features are optional on lower trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 28.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 204 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.23% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $76,689 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD's resale value?

The current average of $77,811 CAD sits slightly below last year's $82,980 CAD.

That softer pricing trend suggests buyers have a bit more leverage today than they did a year ago. For a future seller, that means resale value may be more sensitive to condition, mileage, and trim level than it would be in a tighter market.

The Denali Ultimate’s premium positioning should help support demand among shoppers who want a luxury-leaning heavy-duty truck. Even so, the current market shows that pricing has eased, so you should expect resale strength to depend on how well your truck is equipped and maintained.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.2/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD safe?

The 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The GMC Sierra HD comes standard with automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, and lane departure warning. Front and rear parking sensors, a surround-view parking camera, adaptive cruise control, rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring, and a rear-facing cargo bed camera are also included on the Denali Ultimate.

That gives you a strong safety and driver-assistance package for a heavy-duty pickup, especially if you want the most complete feature set in the lineup. The extra-large power-operated side mirrors also help with visibility, which matters in a truck this size.

Should I buy a 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 28.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.23% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.2/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The Denali Ultimate is newly added for 2024 and brings nearly every available option to the top of the range.

The bottom line: If you want the most up-to-date version of this heavy-duty luxury truck, the 2024 is the one to target. If your priority is stretching your budget further, a nearby model year may be worth comparing, but the 2024 stands out if you want the newest trim content and a softer used-market price than last year.
