Is the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD a good car?

Generally — the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD earns a 4.3/5 user rating and an 8.00/10 expert rating, which points to a strong overall showing. The standout strength is Performance at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its strong performance, ride quality, and range of options, while also liking its appearance. The truck’s broad trim spread and upgraded technology help it feel more versatile than a purely work-focused heavy-duty pickup. On the other hand, some owners feel it is overpriced and wish for more advanced features and technology.

That lines up with the truck’s use case: if you want a heavy-duty pickup that can work hard but still bring some comfort and style, this model year fits that brief well. The market also shows 33.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which is a useful signal if you are shopping carefully.

Is the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD reliable?

Owners rate it 4.3/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owners’ feedback points to a truck that feels dependable, with strong performance and enough range of options to suit different needs. The expert road test also highlights how well the diesel powertrain is matched to the transmission, with smooth shifts and quiet operation that support confidence over time. Chevrolet’s 3-year/60,000-kilometre bumper-to-bumper warranty and 5-year/100,000-kilometre powertrain coverage add some ownership reassurance.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about whether the truck’s equipment level and price match what you need, since some shoppers may want more advanced features for the money.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Work Truck, Custom, LT, LTZ, High Country, and ZR2 each bring different styling and equipment levels. The base work truck is plain but still handsome, while the LTZ and High Country add a more upscale grille treatment and C-shaped headlamps. The ZR2 stands apart with its blacked-out grille and off-road-specific look.
• Powertrain: You can choose a 6.6-litre V8 gas engine or an optional 6.6-litre Duramax turbodiesel V8, both paired with an Allison 10-speed automatic transmission. The diesel is described as quiet, smooth, and well matched to the transmission.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes front pedestrian braking, forward-collision alert, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and a following distance indicator. Adaptive cruise control is optional on all trims, and GM’s Safety Seat is a useful extra to watch for.
• Infotainment: Starting on the LT trim, you get a 12.3-inch configurable gauge cluster and a 13.4-inch infotainment touchscreen. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, along with Google built-in, and the system also supports a Wi-Fi hotspot.
• Fuel efficiency: In testing, the truck returned 11.6 litres per 100 kilometres in 2WD over about 150 kilometres, and the computer calculated 13.8 L/100 km over a 400-kilometre mix of 2WD and Auto 4WD.

Which 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD trim should I buy?

The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD is offered in 6 trim levels: Work Truck (or WT), Custom, LT, LTZ, High Country and ZR2.

Here's the short version:

• Work Truck (or WT): This is the most basic choice, and it makes sense if you want the Silverado 2500HD’s core capability without paying for extra comfort or appearance upgrades.
• Custom: This trim adds a body-coloured grille bar and a bit more visual polish, making it a sensible step up if you want a little more style without moving too far up the price ladder.
• LT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it brings the 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and 13.4-inch infotainment touchscreen, plus wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
• LTZ: This trim adds a more upscale exterior treatment and a richer cabin feel, so it suits you if you want more luxury without going all the way to the top.
• High Country: This is the premium comfort pick, with open-pore wood, leather trim, metal accents, and a more upscale overall presentation.
• ZR2: This is the off-road specialist, and it is the right choice if you want the most capable trail-focused version, especially with the Bison package.

Adaptive cruise control remains optional across the range, even on the top trim.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it rewards comparison shopping more than impulse buying.

• Deal availability: 33.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 304 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.07% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $68,480 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD's resale value?

The current average of $68,519 CAD sits slightly below last year's $72,175 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests future sellers may face a more competitive market than they would have a year ago. If you buy at the right price now, you may have a better chance of limiting depreciation pressure later. Strong owner satisfaction can also help support demand when it is time to sell.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.3/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD safe?

The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD has not been rated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard advanced driver-assistance features include front pedestrian braking, forward-collision alert, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and a following distance indicator. GM’s Safety Seat is also available and can help alert you if traffic ahead slows suddenly. Adaptive cruise control is optional on all trims, including the top High Country.

One important caveat is that not all advanced safety features are standard, so you may need to shop carefully if safety tech is a priority.

Should I buy a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 33.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.07% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.3/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• This year’s refresh brings better styling and a new off-road trim that moves the truck closer to its main rival.

The bottom line: If you want the most up-to-date version of this heavy-duty pickup, the 2024 model is the better starting point because it adds styling updates and broader appeal. If your priority is stretching your budget, a nearby model year may still make sense, but the 2024’s softer pricing and refreshed equipment make it the stronger all-around pick for many used buyers.
