The 2023 Genesis GV70 showcased a design that drew inspiration from the G70 compact luxury sedan, particularly noticeable above the belt-line. Its split-bar headlights and a distinctive chrome line that curved from behind the rear window were key design elements that connected it visually to its sedan counterpart. This chrome bar cleverly suggested a coupe-like SUV aesthetic without sacrificing versatility. Inside, the GV70 impressed with its luxurious cabin, featuring top-notch materials and excellent fit and finish. The interior design was both contemporary and classic, with climate controls integrated into a curving bezel and a touchscreen that rose organically from the dash. The GV70's dash included a full touchscreen, a rotary dial, and button controls, offering a user-friendly interface.

In contrast, the 2024 Hyundai Palisade stood out with its distinctive styling, making it easily recognizable among family-friendly SUVs. The Palisade was available in two trims in Canada: Urban and Ultimate Calligraphy. The Ultimate Calligraphy trim, which we tested, featured an artificial suede headliner, quality upholstery, metal speaker grilles, and sophisticated interior design, giving it a luxury SUV feel. The Palisade's interior was well-appointed, with premium Nappa leather in the Ultimate Calligraphy trim, heated and ventilated front seats, and a dual-panel sunroof. The Ergo Motion massage function for the driver added to the comfort, although it was not available for the front passenger.

The 2023 Genesis GV70 offered two powertrains: a turbocharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine with 300 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque, and a twin-turbo 3.5-litre V6 engine producing 375 horsepower and 391 pound-feet of torque. Both engines were paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. The GV70 provided a balanced driving experience, blending comfort and sharp handling. The Electrified GV70 featured a 77.4-kWh battery, dual electric motors, and a combined output of 429 horsepower, with a Boost Mode increasing it to 483 horsepower for short bursts. It offered 383 kilometres of range and fast charging capabilities.

The 2024 Hyundai Palisade was equipped with a 3.8-litre V6 engine generating 291 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive in Canada. It had a towing capacity of 2,268 kilograms and 20.3 centimetres of ground clearance. The Palisade offered several driving modes, including Eco, Comfort, Sport, Smart, and Snow, and could lock the AWD system for off-road conditions. The V6 engine provided satisfying acceleration, and the suspension was tuned for a firmer ride, offering some athleticism on winding roads. The Palisade averaged 15.0 L/100 km in Comfort mode during testing.

The 2023 Genesis GV70 provided 1,611 litres of cargo space with the rear seats folded and 818 litres with them in use. It featured a hands-free power liftgate, large cupholders in the centre console, and a retractable lid tray. While front-seat comfort was easily adjustable, rear-seat legroom was tighter, requiring front-row occupants to adjust their seats for more space.

The 2024 Hyundai Palisade offered artificial leather upholstery in the Urban trim and premium Nappa leather in the Ultimate Calligraphy trim. It featured heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and a dual-panel sunroof. The Palisade's configurable storage included a large bin, wireless smartphone charger, and additional trays. Second-row passengers enjoyed excellent comfort with a rear climate control panel and USB charging ports. The third row was more spacious than most rivals, with standard heating and air conditioning vents. The Palisade provided 509 litres of cargo space behind the third row, expanding to 2,447 litres with all seats folded.

The 2023 Genesis GV70 came with a 14.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system, navigation, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. It featured a rotary dial for control, four USB ports, wireless charging, and a nine-speaker stereo system. Additional features included ambient lighting, a digital instrument panel, and an 18-speaker Lexicon audio system.

The 2024 Hyundai Palisade featured a 12.3-inch digital instrumentation panel and touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, Bluetooth, SiriusXM, and a rear-seat Quiet Mode.
