How much does the 2020 Honda Civic cost?

Prices have softened 10.71% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 690 listings available, which suggests healthy inventory for you to compare trims and prices.

Is the 2020 Honda Civic a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Honda Civic earns a 4.9/5 user rating and an 8.17/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its smooth ride, great fuel economy, and fun driving experience. They also highlight the tech features, safety advancements, and stylish design.

The main trade-offs are that it could use a bit more power and more USB ports.

For you, that means the Civic makes the most sense if you want a practical small car that feels more upscale than its price suggests, especially if value and everyday usability matter most.

With 30.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s still room to find a strong-value example.

Is the 2020 Honda Civic reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a reliable, affordable choice that many drivers feel good about living with over time. It’s also described as a car people can count on, with strong fuel economy and a reputation for longevity.

The expert test drive data reinforces that impression by describing the powertrains as smooth and quick to rev, with the CVT responding well and without hesitation.

If you’re buying used, the main long-term ownership risk is less about durability and more about whether the car’s age and feature set still match your expectations.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Honda Civic?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Civic comes in sedan, coupe, and 4-door hatchback body styles, and the feature spread is wide. Base versions are simpler, while higher trims add more convenience and premium touches, so you should check carefully for the equipment you want.
• Powertrain: You can find a 2.0-litre inline 4-cylinder engine with 158 horsepower and 138 pound-feet of torque, plus a 1.5-litre turbocharged inline-4 with 174 hp and 162 lb-ft. The Si uses a boosted 1.5-litre engine with 205 hp and 192 lb-ft, while the Type R has 306 hp and 295 lb-ft.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing includes forward collision warning, emergency forward braking, lane-keeping assist, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, active lane centring, and auto high beams. Some trims also get LED headlights, which helped the Civic earn its IIHS recognition.
• Infotainment: The 7-inch touchscreen is standard on all models except the base DX sedan. It includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while top trims get Garmin-based navigation. The system is still described as outdated and more complex than newer Honda setups.
• Fuel efficiency: The Si is rated at 8.9 L/100 km in the city, 6.4 on the highway, and 7.8 combined. Most Civic models with the CVT are rated near 8.0 L/100 km city and as low as 6.0 L/100 km highway.

Which 2020 Honda Civic trim should I buy?

The 2020 Honda Civic is offered in 3 trim levels: LX, Touring, and Si.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the value-focused choice if you want the Civic’s core strengths without paying for extras. It gives you the basic Civic formula of efficiency, practicality, and strong overall value.
• Touring: This is the better pick if you want more comfort and convenience features, including the more upscale equipment that helps the Civic feel richer inside. It suits you if you want the most polished everyday version.
• Si: This is the enthusiast choice, with the boosted 1.5-litre engine, standard manual transmission, adaptive dampers, and a more engaging chassis. It’s the best fit if driving enjoyment matters most.

Honda Sensing is standard on every Civic trim.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Honda Civic?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right car.

• Deal availability: 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 690 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.71% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $20,167 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Honda Civic's resale value?

The current average of $20,167 CAD sits slightly below last year's $22,586 CAD.

That price movement suggests the Civic has become more accessible for used buyers, which can also mean future sellers may face a more competitive market. If you buy at today’s average, your resale position will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim.

The good news is that the Civic’s broad appeal should help support demand over time. Buyers continue to value its reputation, efficiency, and everyday usability, which can help it hold attention in the used market.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Honda Civic safe?

The 2020 Honda Civic earns the Top Safety Pick rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) rated it five stars in all categories except for four stars in the passenger frontal crash rating on the coupe.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing includes forward collision warning, emergency forward braking, lane-keeping assist, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, active lane centring, and auto high beams. Honda also improved the optional LED headlights, which helped secure the IIHS result.

One caveat is that the coupe’s passenger frontal crash rating is lower than the rest of the Civic’s NHTSA results, so coupe shoppers should note that difference.

Should I buy a 2020 Honda Civic or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.71% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Minor design tweaks and more standard safety and convenience features make this year feel fresher.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $18,516 CAD, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $20,167 CAD average.
• It’s a refinement year with the Civic’s core style, value, and performance intact.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $21,381 CAD, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $20,167 CAD average.
• It’s the outgoing generation, with added appeal from being the last of its kind.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, freshness, and broad appeal, the 2020 is the smart default. If you’re shopping on a tighter budget, the 2019 can save you money while keeping much of the same core character. If you want the final-year version of this generation, the 2021 is worth a look, but you’ll pay more for it.
