Is the 2021 Honda Civic a good car?

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Honda Civic?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The sedan comes in LX, EX, Sport, and Touring trims. The base LX is the most basic version, while the Touring adds the most equipment, including the 7-inch high-definition touchscreen and premium audio. If you want the best value, the EX and Sport sit in the middle of the range and add useful equipment without pushing you all the way to the top trim.
• Powertrain: LX, EX, and Sport use a 2.0-litre four-cylinder with 158 horsepower and 138 pound-feet of torque, paired with a CVT and front-wheel drive. Touring gets the turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder with 174 hp and 162 lb-ft, which gives the car stronger low-end pull and a more satisfying drive.
• Safety package: Every Civic gets Honda Sensing, which includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, road departure mitigation, lane keeping assist, automatic high-beam headlights, and a multi-angle rearview camera. LaneWatch starts with the EX trim, and there is no traditional radar-based blind-spot warning system.
• Infotainment: Standard equipment includes a 5-inch LCD screen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, text messaging support, and HondaLink connected services. Touring upgrades to a 7-inch high-definition touchscreen, navigation, HD Radio, SiriusXM, and a 10-speaker audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: The turbocharged 1.5-litre engine averaged 6.8 L/100 km in testing and was rated at 7.1 L/100 km combined by Natural Resources Canada, with 7.8 L/100 km city and 6.2 L/100 km highway.

Which 2021 Honda Civic trim should I buy?

The 2021 Honda Civic is offered in 4 trim levels: LX, EX, Sport, and Touring.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point if you want the Civic’s core strengths at the lowest price, but it is also the most basic trim.
• EX: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds LaneWatch and keeps the Civic’s practical, well-rounded character without jumping to the top-end price.
• Sport: Choose this if you want a more style-focused middle trim with 18-inch wheels and a bit more visual presence.
• Touring: This is the most fully equipped version, with the turbocharged engine, 7-inch touchscreen, navigation, premium audio, and the strongest overall feature set.

Honda Sensing is standard across the lineup, while LaneWatch starts with the EX trim.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Honda Civic?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 29.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 899 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.50% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $21,374 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Honda Civic's resale value?

The current average of $21,381 CAD sits slightly below last year's $23,367 CAD.

That softer pricing can work in your favour if you are buying now, but it also means future sellers may face a more competitive market if values continue to ease. The current trend suggests the Civic is still holding a meaningful share of its value, just not at the same level it did a year ago.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Honda Civic safe?

The 2021 Honda Civic earns a Top Safety Pick designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and five-star ratings in every single assessment from NHTSA.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is standard on every trim and includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, road departure mitigation, lane keeping assist, automatic high-beam headlights, and a multi-angle rearview camera. LaneWatch is available starting with the EX trim, but there is no traditional radar-based blind-spot warning system or rear cross-traffic warning system.

The IIHS Top Safety Pick rating applies only to Touring trim, which has the top-rated LED headlights. Honda Sensing is effective, but the system can feel abrupt and indecisive at times.

Should I buy a 2021 Honda Civic or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 29.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.50% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• This year marks the outgoing 10th-generation Civic, with three body styles and the arrival of the Civic Type R in North America.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $20,167 CAD, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $21,381 CAD average.
• It adds minor design tweaks plus more standard safety and convenience features.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $23,902 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $21,381 CAD average.
• It brings a full redesign with fresh engineering and technology.

The bottom line: If you want the last year of the outgoing Civic with strong owner satisfaction and a softer price trend, the 2021 is the smart pick. If your priority is saving money, the 2020 is the value play; if you want the newest design and tech, move to the 2022.
