How much does the 2020 Honda Civic cost?

Prices have softened 10.10% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 693 listings available, which suggests healthy inventory for you to compare.

Is the 2020 Honda Civic a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Honda Civic earns a 4.9/5 user rating and an 8.17/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its smooth ride, great fuel economy, and fun driving experience. They also highlight the stylish design and the sense that it remains a reliable, affordable choice. The main trade-offs are the outdated technology and the common wish for more power and more USB ports.

That mix makes the Civic especially appealing if you want a practical compact car that feels more polished than its price suggests. It also fits well if you value everyday usability, multiple body styles, and multiple powertrain options. Good and great deals account for 31.2% of listings, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 Honda Civic reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a reliable, affordable car that people feel good about keeping. It is described as dependable and well-regarded, with praise centred on its smooth ride, fuel economy, and overall everyday usability. The expert assessment also reinforces that impression by describing the Civic as a proven, high-quality small car with the value and longevity expected of a Honda.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about durability and more about living with older technology and the possibility that you may want more features than the car provides.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Honda Civic?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Civic comes in three body styles—sedan, coupe, and 4-door hatchback—and the 2020 updates include new exterior details on the Si and hatchback. Base versions are simpler, while higher trims add more visual polish and equipment.
• Powertrain: You get a 2.0-litre inline 4-cylinder with 158 horsepower and 138 pound-feet of torque on base sedan and coupe models, plus a 1.5-litre turbocharged inline-4 with 174 hp and 162 lb-ft on Touring trims and hatchback models. The Si uses a 205 hp version, while the Type R is the most extreme option.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing includes forward collision warning, emergency forward braking, lane-keeping assist, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and active lane centring. Si models now get Honda Sensing as well.
• Infotainment: Most models get a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but the system is dated and can feel slow and overly complex. Top trims add Garmin-based navigation, and the Sport Touring hatchback gets a garage-door opener.
• Fuel efficiency: The Si is rated at 8.9 L/100 km in the city, 6.4 L/100 km on the highway, and 7.8 L/100 km combined. Most CVT-equipped Civic models are rated near 8.0 L/100 km city and as low as 6.0 L/100 km highway.

Which 2020 Honda Civic trim should I buy?

The 2020 Honda Civic is offered in 5 trim levels: DX sedan, LX sedan, Touring sedan, Touring coupe, and Sport Touring hatchback.

Here's the short version:

• DX sedan: This is the simplest entry point, but it is the one trim that misses the standard 7-inch touchscreen and the broader convenience set found on the rest of the lineup.
• LX sedan: This is the best-value choice if you want the Civic’s core strengths without stretching for extras. It gives you the Civic formula at the lowest practical price point.
• Touring sedan: Choose this if you want the more powerful 1.5-litre turbocharged engine and a more upscale feature set.
• Touring coupe: Pick this if you want the same higher-end equipment and turbocharged power in the coupe body style.
• Sport Touring hatchback: This is the most feature-rich hatchback choice, with the turbo engine, added convenience features, and the most complete equipment list in the hatchback range.

Honda Sensing is standard across the lineup, and Si models also get it.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Honda Civic?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 31.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 693 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.10% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $20,292 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Honda Civic's resale value?

The current average of $20,350 CAD sits slightly below last year's $22,637 CAD.

That decline suggests the Civic is currently more buyer-friendly than it was a year ago, which can make it easier for you to find value on the used market. For a future seller, softer pricing means you may need to be more competitive if you want to stand out. Still, the Civic’s broad appeal and strong reputation help support demand.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Honda Civic safe?

The 2020 Honda Civic earns the Top Safety Pick rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and five-star ratings in all categories from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, except for four stars in the passenger frontal crash rating on the coupe.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing includes forward collision warning, emergency forward braking, lane-keeping assist, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and active lane centring. Honda also improved the optional LED headlights, which helped secure the IIHS result. The only notable caveat is the coupe’s four-star passenger frontal crash rating from NHTSA.

Should I buy a 2020 Honda Civic or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 31.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.10% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Minor design tweaks and more standard safety and convenience features make this year feel especially well-rounded.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $18,618 CAD, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $20,350 CAD average.
• It offers the same winning formula with minor tweaks and broad body-style and powertrain variety.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $21,364 CAD, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $20,350 CAD average.
• It is the outgoing generation and appeals if you want a proven Civic before the next redesign.

The bottom line: The 2020 Civic is the sweet spot if you want the freshest version of this generation without paying more for the next model year. If your priority is saving money, the 2019 is the better value play; if you want the last year of the generation, the 2021 is worth a look, but it costs more.
