How much does the 2020 Honda Civic cost?

Is the 2020 Honda Civic a good car?

Yes — 4.9/5 is a strong owner rating, and the expert score is 8.2/10. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10. Owners consistently praise the smooth ride, great fuel economy, fun driving experience, stylish design, and reliability. The Civic also fits a wide range of buyers because it offers multiple body styles and multiple powertrain options. The main trade-offs are outdated technology and some desire for more power and more USB ports. For you, that means the Civic makes the most sense if you want a practical compact car that still feels polished and enjoyable to drive. Listings show 29.9% good or great deals, which is a healthy sign of market opportunity.

Is the 2020 Honda Civic reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The owner feedback also points to a reliable, affordable, and well-regarded car that many people feel good about keeping for the long haul. The expert assessment reinforces that impression by describing the Civic as a car that retains the value and longevity expected of a Honda. For used buyers, the main ownership risk is less about dependability and more about whether the older technology and feature set still meet your needs.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Honda Civic?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Civic comes in three body styles—sedan, coupe, and 4-door hatchback—and the 2020 updates include minor design tweaks plus more standard safety and convenience features. Base trims are more likely to leave you wanting the newer convenience and tech features, so check carefully what equipment is included on the specific car you’re considering.
• Powertrain: In Canada, the base setup is a 2.0-litre inline 4-cylinder with 158 horsepower and 138 pound-feet of torque, paired with a six-speed manual or available CVT. Higher trims add a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine with 174 hp and 162 lb-ft, while Sport and Sport Touring hatchbacks use a version with 180 hp. The Si and Type R sit above that with much stronger output.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing includes forward collision warning, emergency forward braking, lane-keeping assist, lane departure warning, and adaptive cruise control. Si models get Honda Sensing as well, and the optional LED headlights helped the Civic earn strong safety recognition.
• Infotainment: The 7-inch touchscreen is standard on all models except the base DX sedan, and it includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The system is dated and slower than newer Honda setups, so make sure you’re comfortable with that trade-off.
• Fuel efficiency: Most Civic models with the CVT are rated near 8.0 L/100 km in the city and as low as 6.0 L/100 km on the highway. The Si is rated at 8.9 L/100 km city, 6.4 L/100 km highway, and 7.8 L/100 km combined.

Which 2020 Honda Civic trim should I buy?

The 2020 Honda Civic is offered in 6 trim levels: DX, LX, Sport, Touring, Si, and Type R.

Here's the short version:

• DX: This is the most basic way into the Civic, so it makes sense only if you want the lowest entry point and can live without the richer standard equipment found higher up the range.
• LX: This is the best-value choice for most shoppers because it keeps the Civic’s core strengths while adding the equipment balance most people will actually use day to day.
• Sport: Choose this if you want a more style-forward Civic with a stronger feature set than the lower trims, without jumping all the way to the pricier models.
• Touring: This is the trim to consider if you want the most comfort and convenience features in the regular Civic lineup.
• Si: This is the enthusiast pick, with the strongest everyday performance focus and the most engaging driving character short of the Type R.
• Type R: This is the high-performance halo model, so it suits you only if outright performance is the priority.

Honda Sensing is standard on Si models and broadly available across the Civic range, so safety equipment is a strong part of the package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Honda Civic?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you should have enough choice to shop carefully without expecting deep discounts everywhere.

• Deal availability: 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 690 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.96% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $19,907 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Honda Civic's resale value?

The current average of $19,917 CAD sits slightly below last year's $22,119 CAD.

That softer pricing can help you as a buyer now, but it also means a future seller may need to price more competitively to stand out. The Civic’s broad appeal, strong reputation, and steady owner satisfaction should help support demand over time. Even so, the current trend suggests you should expect resale values to be more sensitive to condition, mileage, and trim than they were a year ago.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Honda Civic safe?

The Civic earned the top "Good" rating in all six crash tests from IIHS and five-star ratings in all NHTSA categories, with the exception of four stars in the passenger frontal crash rating on the coupe. It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing comes with forward collision warning, emergency forward braking, lane-keeping assist, lane departure warning, and adaptive cruise control. Honda also improved the optional LED headlights, which helped secure the Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS for all body styles except the Type R, which wasn't tested. For you, the main caveat is that the coupe’s passenger frontal crash rating is lower than the rest of the Civic’s NHTSA results.

Should I buy a 2020 Honda Civic or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.96% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Minor design tweaks and more standard safety and convenience features make this year feel current.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $18,370 CAD, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $19,917 CAD average.
• It delivers the Civic’s polished driving feel with only minor changes from the 2020 model.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $21,185 CAD, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $19,917 CAD average.
• It marks the end of the 10th-generation Civic and remains a well-rounded, practical compact.

The bottom line: The 2020 is the best all-around pick if you want the updated safety and convenience mix without paying more for the next year. If your priority is saving money, the 2019 is the smarter value play; if you want the last year of this generation, the 2021 is worth a look.

How does the 2020 Honda Civic compare to the 2020 Toyota Corolla?

Our experts score the 2020 Honda Civic 8.2/10 and the 2020 Toyota Corolla 7/10. The Civic brings stronger performance, more body styles, and a broader range of powertrain choices, while the Corolla leans more toward straightforward efficiency and a lower average used price. The Civic also has the larger inventory pool here, which gives you more room to shop for the right trim and condition. If you want the more engaging and versatile compact car, the Civic is the stronger pick; if price is your top priority, the Corolla deserves a look.
