2023 Genesis GV70 Reviews Summary

The definition of luxury has changed. No matter where you look in the various premium vehicle segments, there are entrants that you may not have seen decades ago. From performance SUVs to subcompact crossovers, there are new takes on upscale vehicles. But just as crucially is the entrance of new players. In 2015, the Genesis brand was officially spun off from Hyundai. And with the brand’s expansion into various segments, a compact SUV like the 2023 Genesis GV70 was a must. Competitors include the Audi Q5, BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLC, Acura RDX, Porsche Macan, and others.

The GV70 was introduced for the 2022 model year and for 2023, an all-electric model joins the lineup. We evaluated the GV70 on the whole, but with a special focus on how effective the 2023 Genesis GV70 Electrified is for the Korean automaker as an EV and as a compact luxury crossover.

2023 Acura RDX Reviews Summary

The Acura RDX may not be the newest luxury SUV, but it can still compete against newer rivals thanks to its strong performance, high levels of comfort, and relatively affordable price. We're no fans of its infotainment interface, but we think most shoppers will eventually get used to its idiosyncrasies.

Look and feel

2023 Genesis GV70

8/10

2023 Acura RDX

6/10

The 2023 Genesis GV70 showcased a design that drew inspiration from its sedan counterpart, the G70. Its styling featured split-bar headlights and a distinctive chrome line that elegantly curved from behind the rear window, suggesting a coupe-like SUV without sacrificing versatility. Inside, the GV70 impressed with its luxurious cabin, using high-quality materials and a blend of contemporary and classic aesthetics. The dashboard integrated a full touchscreen with a rotary dial and button controls, offering a user-friendly interface.

In contrast, the 2023 Acura RDX presented a sharp, angular style that was both unique and conventional. Its signature grille, flanked by sleek headlights, gave it a sporty look, though it seemed due for a refresh. The interior diverged from the horizontal dashboard trend, opting for a vertical layout with a focus on performance. The centre stack featured gear-selector buttons and a drive-mode dial, while the instrument panel combined digital and analog elements, maintaining a familiar yet slightly dated feel.

Both engines were paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. The GV70 balanced comfort and handling, providing a refined driving experience. The Acura RDX was powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, generating 272 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission.
