How much does the 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD cost?

Prices have softened 8.06% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

Is the 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD a good car?

Generally — the 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD earns 4.2/5 from owners and 8/10 from expert testing. The model scores 9/10 across Technology and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its capability, professional-grade character, and the value it offers. The truck also stands out for its massive cabin with luxury trimmings, strong acceleration, and excellent towing ability. The main trade-offs are its thirst for fuel and its barge-like feel when parking, which are the natural downsides of a heavy-duty truck built for serious work.

For you, that means this is best suited to buyers who need maximum towing and payload capability and want a more upscale cabin than a basic work truck. With 30.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD reliable?

Owners rate it 4.2/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a truck that feels dependable in day-to-day use, with buyers repeatedly highlighting its capability and value. The expert evaluation also describes the powertrain as refined and notes that the transmission never hunted for the right gear, which supports confidence in how it behaves under load.

The diesel-focused setup should appeal if you want a heavy-duty truck you can count on for towing and hauling, but used buyers should still weigh long-term ownership risk carefully, especially if they plan to keep the truck for many years and use it hard.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Denali Ultimate is the top trim and adds nearly every available option, including standard LED headlights and taillights, sequential turn signals, the six-passenger Crew Cab, and the MultiPro Tailgate. Lower trims do not get the same luxury-oriented equipment, so you should check carefully for feature gaps if you are comparing against a base truck.
• Powertrain: The Denali Ultimate uses a 6.6-litre Duramax turbocharged diesel V8 with 470 horsepower and 975 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 10-speed Allison automatic transmission and standard 4WD. It also adds a locking rear differential, two-speed transfer case, all-terrain tires, heavy-duty air filter, underbody skid plates, hill descent control, and a diesel exhaust brake.
• Safety package: The truck comes standard with automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, and lane departure warning. Front and rear parking sensors, a surround-view parking camera, adaptive cruise control, rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring, and a rear-facing cargo bed camera are also standard on the Denali Ultimate, while some of those items are optional on lower trims.
• Infotainment: The Denali Ultimate gets a 13.4-inch screen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless device charging, Google built-in, a 15-inch multi-colour head-up display, a 12-speaker Bose surround-sound audio system, and split-screen navigation. It also includes trailer-focused tech such as the ProGrade trailering system with 14 camera views.
• Fuel efficiency: During long highway stints, the Duramax diesel dipped as low as 11.2 L/100 km, while suburban and city driving could climb well beyond 20 L/100 km.

Which 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD trim should I buy?

The 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD is offered in 7 trim levels: Pro, SLE, SLT, AT4, Denali, AT4X, and Denali Ultimate.

Here's the short version:

• Pro: This is the entry point if you want the Sierra HD nameplate at the lowest cost, but you should expect the fewest luxury and convenience features.
• SLE: This is the sensible step up if you want a more usable daily truck without jumping too far up the price ladder.
• SLT: This is the best-value trim for many buyers because it should give you a stronger mix of comfort and equipment before the price climbs into luxury territory.
• AT4: Choose this if you want the off-road-oriented setup and the standard 4WD that comes from this point in the lineup.
• Denali: This is the trim to target if you want a premium cabin and upscale feel without going all the way to the top.
• AT4X: Pick this if you want the upgraded off-road trim with more rugged hardware than the standard AT4.
• Denali Ultimate: This is the one to buy if you want the most luxurious and most comprehensively equipped Sierra 2500HD, including the 13.4-inch screen, the full trailering tech suite, and the standard safety equipment that is optional on lower trims.

The safety package is standard on the Denali Ultimate, while several of those features are optional on lower trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it makes sense to compare listings carefully and move quickly on the right truck.

• Deal availability: 30.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 201 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.06% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $76,740 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD's resale value?

The current average of $78,466 CAD sits slightly below last year's $85,341 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, but it can also mean future sellers may need to be realistic about what their truck will bring. If you buy well now, you may have less downside risk than someone who paid closer to the higher end of the recent range.

Because this model year still attracts buyers who want heavy-duty capability and a premium cabin, well-kept examples should remain appealing. Trucks with strong owner satisfaction ratings tend to hold attention in the used market, which helps support resale value over time.

Is the 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD safe?

The 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

It comes standard with automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, and lane departure warning. On the Denali Ultimate, front and rear parking sensors, a surround-view parking camera, adaptive cruise control, rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring, and a rear-facing cargo bed camera are all standard as well.

That means you get a strong safety foundation, but some of the more advanced driver-assistance features are tied to the top trim rather than every version. If safety equipment matters to you, it is worth checking trim content closely before you buy.

Should I buy a 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 30.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.06% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.2/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The Denali Ultimate is newly added for this model year and brings nearly every available option to the lineup.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of luxury, towing capability, and standard equipment in this heavy-duty lineup, the 2024 is the one to focus on. If your priority is simply getting into a Sierra HD for less money, a lower trim or a different nearby year may be the better value path.
