Is the 2023 Hyundai Kona a good car?

Yes — 5/5 is a strong user rating for the 2023 Hyundai Kona, and it fits a subcompact SUV that was designed to offer a lot of equipment, distinctive styling, and a choice of powertrains in a small footprint. Hyundai positioned it to stand out from the crowd, and that approach shows in its available turbocharged engine, dual-clutch automatic transmission, and optional all-wheel drive. It also has a reputation for being well equipped for the money, which makes it appealing if you want value without giving up personality. With 30.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still offers some attractive opportunities.

Is the 2023 Hyundai Kona reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2023 Kona’s appeal is reinforced by its well-equipped nature and the modern features it gained from the 2022 refresh, including a larger infotainment touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and adaptive cruise control that can bring the vehicle to a complete stop. Its small size and available powertrains make it a practical fit for shoppers who want a distinctive SUV with useful technology. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that the cabin can feel cramped and cargo space is limited, so it rewards buyers who prioritise features over maximum utility.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Hyundai Kona?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 30.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 578 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.40% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $23,084 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Hyundai Kona's resale value?

The current average of $23,084 CAD sits slightly below last year's $25,764 CAD.

That softer pricing can help you buy more affordably now, but it also means future resale gains may be more limited if the market stays soft. If you plan to sell later, the Kona’s value story will depend on how well it holds demand in a segment where equipment and personality matter a lot. Well-priced examples should remain easier to move than overpriced ones.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2023 Hyundai Kona or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 30.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.40% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $21,158 CAD, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $23,084 CAD average.
• It adds a more polished look and broader appeal.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $27,144 CAD, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $23,084 CAD average.
• It brings a new generation with updated tech and a fresh design.

The bottom line: The 2023 is the best all-around choice if you want a well-equipped Kona at a softer price than the newer model. If you are more price-sensitive, the 2022 is the value play, while the 2024 makes sense if you want the newest design and technology.
