How much does the 2022 Hyundai Kona cost?

Is the 2022 Hyundai Kona a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Hyundai Kona earns a 4.9/5 user rating and a 7.7/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Performance and Cost effectiveness.

Owners consistently praise the fun driving experience, safety features, impressive tech, sleek design, and smooth handling. That lines up well with the Kona’s refreshed, city-friendly small-SUV format and its added performance options for shoppers who want more personality than a basic commuter crossover.

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owners’ feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with praise for the Kona’s fun driving character, safety features, and impressive tech. The refreshed powertrains and the model’s broad equipment spread also support confidence in day-to-day use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Hyundai Kona?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Essential trim gets the refreshed styling and an 8-inch display, but it misses some of the convenience and connected features that appear higher up the range. The N Line adds sportier styling and a more upscale feel, while the Kona N is the most performance-focused version.
• Powertrain: The lower trims use a 2.0-litre four-cylinder with a CVT, while the N Line upgrades to a turbocharged 1.6-litre engine with a seven-speed DCT. The Kona N uses a turbocharged 2.0-litre engine with an N eight-speed wet DCT and performance hardware such as launch control and an electronic limited-slip differential.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assistance, driver attention warning, and rear occupant alert. Available upgrades include adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, blind-spot warning with collision avoidance, Highway Drive Assist, and rear cross-traffic alert with collision avoidance.
• Infotainment: The base model gets an 8-inch display with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Higher trims add SiriusXM, Hyundai BlueLink, and, on the Kona N, a 10.25-inch touchscreen with navigation and traffic information. Wireless device charging is reserved for the N Line with the Ultimate Package and the Kona N.
• Fuel efficiency: Combined fuel consumption for FWD Konas, except the Kona N, is 7.4 L/100 km. AWD versions are rated at 7.9 to 8.2 L/100 km, depending on the engine, while the Kona N is rated at 10.4 L/100 km combined.

Which 2022 Hyundai Kona trim should I buy?

The 2022 Hyundai Kona is offered in 4 trim levels: Essential, Preferred, N Line, Kona N.

Here's the short version:

• Essential: This is the entry point if you want the refreshed Kona’s styling, standard wireless smartphone integration, and the lowest purchase price. It makes sense if you care most about value and can live without the extra convenience and connected features found higher up.
• Preferred: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds SiriusXM and Hyundai BlueLink, and it can be paired with useful options such as the Sun & Leather Package. If you want a more complete daily-driver setup without jumping into the sportier trims, this is the one to focus on.
• N Line: This is the sweet spot if you want the strongest mix of value and personality. It adds the turbocharged engine, sportier styling, and a more premium-feeling cabin, and the available Ultimate Package brings major tech and convenience upgrades.
• Kona N: Choose this if you want the most performance-focused Kona. It brings the most powerful engine, the most aggressive hardware, and the most exclusive driving features, but it is the least mainstream choice in the lineup.

The safety content also notes that the Kona’s child-seat anchors received a Marginal rating, which is worth checking if you regularly install child seats.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Hyundai Kona?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 25.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 421 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.37% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $20,997 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Hyundai Kona's resale value?

The current average of $20,997 CAD sits slightly below last year's $23,960 CAD.

That price movement suggests the Kona has become more accessible for used buyers, which can make it easier to move later if you buy at the right number. For a future seller, the current softness means your best resale outcome will depend on condition, trim desirability, and how well the vehicle has been maintained.

The Kona’s strong owner satisfaction rating helps support demand, especially for shoppers who value its style, tech, and driving character. Well-equipped trims should remain easier to market than bare-bones examples.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Hyundai Kona safe?

The 2022 Hyundai Kona gets five stars for overall crash protection from NHTSA, with five-star ratings for front and side crash protection and four stars for rollover resistance. It also earns a Top Safety Pick-level result from IIHS with Good ratings in all six crashworthiness tests.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assistance, driver attention warning, and rear occupant alert. Available driver aids include adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, blind-spot warning with collision avoidance, Highway Drive Assist, and rear cross-traffic alert with collision avoidance.

One caveat is the child-seat anchor rating, which was judged Marginal by IIHS. That is worth keeping in mind if you plan to use the rear seat for child seats regularly.

Should I buy a 2022 Hyundai Kona or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 25.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.37% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 brings a significant refresh with updated styling, enhanced powertrains, and added convenience, connectivity, and safety features.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $19,171 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $20,997 CAD average.
• It offers strong styling, useful storage, and a value-forward approach.

The bottom line: Buy the 2022 if you want the refreshed design, better tech, and broader trim choice. If your priority is simply paying less, the 2021 remains a sensible alternative, especially if you can find one in good condition with the features you want.
