Used 2023 Honda HR-V for SaleNationwide

How much does the 2023 Honda HR-V cost?

Prices have softened 8.19% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 289 listings available, which suggests a modest amount of inventory for shoppers to compare.

Is the 2023 Honda HR-V a good car?

Generally — the 2023 Honda HR-V earns a 4.4/5 user rating and an 8.17/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Cost effectiveness.

Owners consistently praise the smooth ride, the generous feature content for the price, and the strong value proposition. The HR-V also stands out as a more modern, more substantial-feeling small SUV than the model it replaces, and it is described as fun to drive for the segment.

The trade-offs are clear: performance is fairly pedestrian, and the lack of a hybrid option may matter if efficiency is a priority. Even so, the HR-V’s broad appeal and approachable use case make it a sensible fit if you want a small SUV that feels well equipped without pushing into pricier territory.

Only 29.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so the market is somewhat selective rather than flooded with bargains.

Is the 2023 Honda HR-V reliable?

Owners rate it 4.4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

Drivers’ feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with comments that the HR-V feels like a vehicle you can count on for everyday use. The expert evaluation also highlights a solid, well-rounded package that should support confidence over the long term.

Honda’s standard maintenance coverage and powertrain warranty add some reassurance for used buyers, but as always, a clean service history matters most when you are assessing long-term ownership risk.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Honda HR-V?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LX is the most affordable entry point, but the Sport adds a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, dual-zone climate control, a power moonroof, and other comfort and style upgrades. The EX-L feels the most upscale, with perforated leather seats and additional cabin refinement, and it is the best-value choice if you want the richest feature set without moving into a luxury price bracket.
• Powertrain: Every 2023 HR-V uses a 2.0-litre inline four-cylinder engine with 158 horsepower and 138 pound-feet of torque, paired with a CVT. It is tuned more for everyday usability than quick acceleration, and the available drive modes help tailor response rather than transform performance.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard across the lineup and includes adaptive cruise control, collision-mitigation braking, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, road-departure mitigation, lane-departure warning, forward-collision warning, traffic-sign recognition, traffic jam assist, automatic high-beam headlights, blind-spot information with rear cross-traffic alert, and more. EX-L adds front and rear parking sensors.
• Infotainment: Every trim gets a 7-inch digital gauge cluster and a 7-inch colour touchscreen. LX and Sport use wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while EX-L adds wireless versions, a 9-inch display, Wi-Fi capability, SiriusXM, HD Radio, and a Qi-compatible wireless charging pad.
• Fuel efficiency: The HR-V is rated at 9.1 L/100 km city, 7.4 highway, and 8.3 combined in FWD form, or 9.4 city, 7.8 highway, and 8.7 combined with AWD.

Which 2023 Honda HR-V trim should I buy?

The 2023 Honda HR-V is offered in 3 trim levels: LX, Sport, and EX-L.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the value-focused starting point, and it already includes the full Honda Sensing safety suite, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 7-inch touchscreen, and the core features most shoppers need. If you want the lowest entry price and can live without the extra comfort and convenience items, this is the trim to start with.
• Sport: This trim adds a more distinctive look and useful upgrades such as a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, dual-zone climate control, a power moonroof, and a six-speaker audio system. It is the right middle ground if you want more polish without jumping all the way to the top trim.
• EX-L: This is the most complete version, with perforated leather seats, wireless smartphone integration, a larger 9-inch infotainment display, wireless charging, Wi-Fi capability, and parking sensors. It is the trim that feels most premium and is the best choice if you want the HR-V to feel more expensive than its price suggests.

Honda Sensing is standard on every trim, so you do not need to move up the range for the core safety package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Honda HR-V?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you should be ready to move when you find the right listing.

• Deal availability: 29.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 289 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.19% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $27,747 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Honda HR-V's resale value?

The current average of $27,747 CAD sits slightly below last year's $30,223 CAD.

That softer pricing can be a good entry point for you as a buyer, but it also means a future seller may need to be realistic about expectations if the market stays competitive. The current trend suggests the HR-V is holding value reasonably well, but not strongly appreciating.

If demand remains steady, a well-kept HR-V with desirable equipment should still attract attention, especially because shoppers tend to value its safety content and overall practicality. Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Honda HR-V safe?

The 2023 Honda HR-V receives a Top Safety Pick+ designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is standard on every trim, and that means you get adaptive cruise control, collision-mitigation braking, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, road-departure mitigation, lane-departure warning, forward-collision warning, traffic-sign recognition, traffic jam assist, automatic high-beams, blind-spot information, and rear cross-traffic alert. EX-L adds front and rear parking sensors.

The safety package is a major strength, especially because it is no longer restricted away from the base trim. That makes the HR-V easier to recommend if safety tech is high on your list.

Should I buy a 2023 Honda HR-V or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 29.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.19% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2023 model brings a full redesign, a more modern cabin, and standard Honda Sensing across the lineup.

The bottom line: If you want the newest-feeling HR-V with the strongest safety story and a more refined design, the 2023 is the one to target. If you are shopping mainly on price, a nearby older year may still make sense, but the 2023 is the better pick when you want the most complete version of this generation’s improvements.
