What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Kia Sorento?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base LX+ is the most feature-light version, while LX Premium adds useful comfort and convenience equipment such as a heated and leather-trimmed steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate control, a wireless phone charger, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors. Higher trims bring more presence and equipment, but the base model is the one most likely to feel short on features and comfort.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.5-litre four-cylinder is the least energetic option, while the turbocharged 2.5-litre is the more satisfying choice and is paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch automated manual transmission. Hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions are also part of the lineup, and they are the better fit if efficiency matters most to you.
• Safety package: The Sorento offers a broad safety suite, including rear-seat reminder, Junction Assist, Blind View Monitor on SX, and Highway Driving Assist. Some features are trim-specific, so make sure the vehicle you’re considering has the driver-assistance equipment you want.
• Infotainment: LX+, LX Premium, X-Line, and EX use an 8-inch touchscreen, while other trims get a 10.25-inch display with navigation, satellite radio, Kia Connect services, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. The larger system requires a cable for app connectivity, while the base system offers Bluetooth and wireless smartphone integration.
• Fuel efficiency: The base engine is rated at 9.7 L/100 km in combined driving, while the turbocharged engine is rated at 9.9 L/100 km. The hybrid and plug-in hybrid are the efficiency standouts, with the hybrid rated at 6.6 L/100 km combined and the plug-in hybrid returning 3.0 Le/100 km in combined driving after 51 kilometres of electric-only range.

Which 2022 Kia Sorento trim should I buy?

The 2022 Kia Sorento is offered in 4 trim levels: LX+, LX Premium, X-Line, and SX.

Here's the short version:

• LX+: This is the entry point, and it gives you the essentials, including the 8-inch touchscreen and the standard 2.5-litre engine. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the Sorento, but it is also the trim most likely to leave you wanting more comfort and convenience equipment.
• LX Premium: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a meaningful step up in everyday usability, including a heated and leather-trimmed steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate control, a wireless phone charger, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors. If you want a well-rounded Sorento without stretching too far up the range, this is the one to target.
• X-Line: This trim brings the more desirable turbocharged 2.5-litre engine and a stronger visual presence. It is the right choice if you care more about performance and a more upscale look than about keeping the purchase price as low as possible.
• SX: This is the top trim and the one to choose if you want the most advanced equipment, including the exclusive Blind View Monitor and the 12-speaker Bose premium surround-sound system. It suits you best if you want the Sorento loaded with technology and convenience features.

The safety package is broad, but some features are trim-specific, so check carefully before you buy.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Kia Sorento?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to compare listings and wait for the right example.

• Deal availability: 34.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 302 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.12% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $27,975 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Kia Sorento's resale value?

The current average of $27,975 CAD sits slightly below last year's $32,575 CAD.

That price movement suggests the Sorento has become more accessible for used buyers, which can also mean future sellers may need to price competitively to stand out. If you buy at today’s average, you’re starting from a lower entry point than last year’s market, which can help cushion depreciation if values stabilise.

The Sorento’s broad appeal as a family-focused midsize SUV should help support demand, especially for well-equipped examples with desirable features. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Kia Sorento safe?

The 2022 Sorento earns a Top Safety Pick from IIHS. It earns a four-star overall rating from NHTSA, with four-star ratings for driver and front passenger protection in the frontal-impact test and for rollover resistance, and five-star ratings in all other NHTSA tests.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The Sorento’s safety tech includes rear-seat reminder, Junction Assist, Blind View Monitor on SX, and Highway Driving Assist, which combines adaptive cruise control and lane keeping assist to help maintain speed and lane position. The main caveat is the LED headlight result: the standard Canadian headlights received a Poor rating, and that is the only negative rating called out in the safety evaluation.

Should I buy a 2022 Kia Sorento or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 34.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.12% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 stands out for the arrival of the Sorento Hybrid in Canada and the debut of the Sorento Plug-in Hybrid, which broaden the lineup and improve efficiency options.

The bottom line: If you want the most current version of this generation with the added appeal of hybrid and plug-in hybrid choices, the 2022 is the one to focus on. If your priority is simply finding the lowest purchase price, a nearby model year may be worth comparing, but the 2022 gives you a strong mix of value, features, and efficiency options.
