Is the 2021 Hyundai Palisade a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Hyundai Palisade earns a 4.64/5 user rating and a 9/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Cost effectiveness and Safety.

You and your passengers get a spacious interior, abundant features, and a comfortable ride, while the elegant design and high-tech capabilities help it feel more upscale than a typical family SUV. It also suits buyers who want a roomy three-row vehicle that still feels enjoyable to drive and practical for everyday use.

Good and great deals account for 29.8% of listings, which is a healthy sign of market availability.

Is the 2021 Hyundai Palisade reliable?

Owners rate it 4.64/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Drivers consistently praise the Palisade for being spacious, comfortable, and well equipped, and those same themes support a reputation for dependable day-to-day use. The expert evaluation also describes it as financially smart to purchase and loaded with modern technology and conveniences.

Hyundai’s five-year, 100,000 km warranty coverage and five-year, unlimited-kilometre roadside assistance plan add peace of mind for used buyers.

For long-term ownership, the main risk is less about basic durability and more about whether you’re comfortable with the higher purchase price and premium-feature complexity.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Hyundai Palisade?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Ultimate Calligraphy stands apart with a different grille pattern, revised exterior lighting, additional lower body trim, unique 20-inch alloy wheels, upgraded interior detailing, and a simulated suede headliner. It also looks and feels more upscale than the other versions, with quilted and stitched premium Nappa leather and a suede headliner that make the cabin feel especially rich.
• Powertrain: Every 2021 Palisade uses a 3.8-litre V6 with 291 horsepower, an 8-speed automatic transmission, and standard all-wheel drive in Canada. It is tuned to feel predictable, quiet, and easy to drive, with strong body-motion control and a firmer, more traditional SUV feel.
• Safety package: Every Palisade includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, multiple lane-keeping systems, and a rear occupant alert system. Most trims add active blind-spot and rear cross-traffic warning, while Luxury and Ultimate Calligraphy add a Blind View Monitor. Highway Driving Assist is a standout feature, but it is not hands-free.
• Infotainment: Two infotainment systems are offered, with 8-inch and 10.25-inch touchscreens. Both can pair two smartphones to Bluetooth at once, but only the 8-inch system gets wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The larger screen still needs a wired connection, while Ultimate Calligraphy adds SiriusXM satellite radio, HD Radio, navigation, Blue Link connected services, and a 12-speaker Harman Kardon audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada predicts combined fuel consumption of 11.1 L/100 km, and the test vehicle matched that figure on the driving loop.

Which 2021 Hyundai Palisade trim should I buy?

The 2021 Hyundai Palisade is offered in 4 trim levels: Essential, Preferred, Luxury, and Ultimate Calligraphy.

Here's the short version:

• Essential: This is the entry point if you want the Palisade’s core strengths at the lowest price, but it is the trim most likely to leave you wanting more equipment compared with the higher versions.
• Preferred: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds more of the features that make the Palisade feel upscale without pushing all the way to luxury-trim pricing.
• Luxury: This trim is the sweet spot if you want a more premium experience and the added safety convenience of the Blind View Monitor.
• Ultimate Calligraphy: Choose this if you want the most luxurious Palisade, with the richest cabin materials, the most distinctive styling, and the fullest technology and convenience content.

Luxury and Ultimate Calligraphy trims include the Blind View Monitor, so if that feature matters to you, stay above the lower trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Hyundai Palisade?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 29.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 282 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 18.99% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $27,310 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Hyundai Palisade's resale value?

The current average of $27,380 CAD sits slightly below last year's $33,797 CAD.

That price drop suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. For a future seller, the softer pricing means you may need to be more competitive to stand out, especially if similar listings remain plentiful.

The Palisade’s strong feature content and family-friendly reputation should still support demand, particularly for well-kept examples with desirable trims. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.64/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Hyundai Palisade safe?

The 2021 Hyundai Palisade earns top safety ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Every Palisade includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, multiple lane-keeping systems, and a rear occupant alert system. Most trims add active blind-spot and rear cross-traffic warning systems, plus Safe Exit Assist, while Luxury and Ultimate Calligraphy add a Blind View Monitor. Highway Driving Assist is a standout feature, but it is not designed for hands-free driving.

Should I buy a 2021 Hyundai Palisade or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 29.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 18.99% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.64/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds more standard equipment, expanded infotainment capabilities, and a new luxury-themed trim level.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $32,366 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $27,380 CAD average.
• It adds direct gasoline injection and keeps standard all-wheel drive in Canada.

The bottom line: If you want the stronger value proposition, the 2021 is the better starting point because pricing has eased and the feature set is already rich. If you’re willing to pay more for the next model year’s updated powertrain details, the 2022 is the better alternative for buyers who prioritise that newer setup over upfront savings.
