With 31.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still meaningful value in the market if you shop carefully.

Is the 2021 Hyundai Palisade reliable?

Drivers consistently praise the Palisade for being spacious, comfortable, and well equipped, and those themes support the impression that it can be a dependable family SUV over time. The expert evaluation also describes it as financially smart to purchase and loaded with modern technology and conveniences.

Hyundai’s five-year, 100,000 km warranty coverage adds another layer of confidence for used buyers, though you should still check service history and condition carefully because long-term ownership costs depend on how the vehicle was maintained.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Hyundai Palisade?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Ultimate Calligraphy stands out with a different grille pattern, revised exterior lighting, unique 20-inch alloy wheels, upgraded interior detailing, and a simulated suede headliner. It also looks and feels more upscale than the other versions, while standard LED headlights were added to models that did not have them previously.
• Powertrain: Every 2021 Palisade uses a 3.8-litre V6 with 291 horsepower, an 8-speed automatic transmission, and standard all-wheel drive in Canada. It is described as powerful, quiet, and easy to live with in everyday driving.
• Safety package: Every Palisade includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, multiple lane-keeping systems, and a rear occupant alert system. Most trims add active blind-spot and rear cross-traffic warning, while Luxury and Ultimate Calligraphy trims add a Blind View Monitor.
• Infotainment: Two infotainment systems are offered, with 8-inch and 10.25-inch touchscreens. Only the 8-inch setup gets wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while the larger screen still needs a wired connection. The Ultimate Calligraphy adds SiriusXM satellite radio, HD Radio, navigation, Blue Link connected services, and a 12-speaker Harman Kardon audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada predicts 11.1 L/100 km in combined driving, and that same figure was recorded on the test loop.

Which 2021 Hyundai Palisade trim should I buy?

The 2021 Hyundai Palisade is offered in 4 trim levels: Essential, Preferred, Luxury, and Ultimate Calligraphy.

Here's the short version:

• Essential: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the Palisade’s core space, comfort, and safety without paying for the more luxurious extras.
• Preferred: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds more equipment while staying below the higher-end luxury trims.
• Luxury: This trim is the better pick if you want more upscale features and the added Blind View Monitor.
• Ultimate Calligraphy: This is the most luxurious version, with the richest cabin presentation, the most distinctive styling, and the most complete equipment list.

Luxury and Ultimate Calligraphy trims include the Blind View Monitor, which is a useful safety-package upgrade.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Hyundai Palisade?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient.

• Deal availability: 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 277 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 19.72% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $27,298 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Hyundai Palisade's resale value?

The current average of $27,429 CAD sits slightly below last year's $34,167 CAD.

That drop suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, but it also means sellers may need to price competitively to stand out. If you plan to resell later, the current softness could limit upside in the short term unless the vehicle is especially well kept and well equipped.

Strong owner satisfaction can help support demand over time, especially for a family SUV with a reputation for comfort, space, and features. Well-maintained examples with desirable trims should remain easier to move than less appealing listings.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.64/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Hyundai Palisade safe?

The 2021 Hyundai Palisade earns top safety ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Every Palisade comes with adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, multiple lane-keeping systems, and a rear occupant alert system. Most trims also add active blind-spot and rear cross-traffic warning, plus Safe Exit Assist, while Luxury and Ultimate Calligraphy trims get a Blind View Monitor.

Highway Driving Assist is a standout feature, and it works especially well for highway cruising. It is not a hands-free system, so you still need to keep your hands on the wheel.

Should I buy a 2021 Hyundai Palisade or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 19.72% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.64/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds more standard equipment, expanded infotainment capabilities, and the new Ultimate Calligraphy trim.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $32,444 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $27,429 CAD average.
• It adds direct gasoline injection and keeps standard all-wheel drive.

The bottom line: The 2021 is the better value if you want a well-equipped Palisade at a lower price and are comfortable shopping the used market carefully. If you want the newer model year and do not mind paying more, the 2022 is the cleaner alternative.
