Is the 2021 Hyundai Palisade a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Hyundai Palisade earns a 4.64/5 user rating and a 9/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Cost effectiveness and Safety.

You get a spacious interior, abundant features, and a comfortable ride, along with an elegant design and high-tech capabilities. It also fits well if you want a family-friendly three-row SUV that feels more upscale than its price suggests.

With 27.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still some room to find value in the market.

Is the 2021 Hyundai Palisade reliable?

Owners rate it 4.64/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Drivers consistently praise the Palisade for being spacious, comfortable, and well equipped, and many describe it as a vehicle they would happily count on for family use. The expert review also highlights its quiet, predictable driving character and its polished overall execution.

Hyundai’s five-year, 100,000 km warranty coverage and five-year, unlimited-kilometre roadside assistance plan add peace of mind for used buyers. For long-term ownership, the main risk is less about core dependability and more about whether the higher trim content and premium feel justify the asking price.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Hyundai Palisade?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Ultimate Calligraphy stands apart with a different grille pattern, revised exterior lighting, unique 20-inch alloy wheels, upgraded interior detailing, and a simulated suede headliner. It also feels notably more upscale inside, while standard LED headlights were added for models that did not have them last year.
• Powertrain: Every Palisade uses a 3.8-litre V6 with 291 horsepower, an 8-speed automatic transmission, and standard all-wheel drive in Canada. It is tuned for calm, confident everyday driving rather than outright sportiness.
• Safety package: Every Palisade includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, multiple lane-keeping systems, and a rear occupant alert system. Most trims add active blind-spot and rear cross-traffic warning, Safe Exit Assist, and most trims use a more sophisticated ultrasonic rear occupant alert system. Luxury and Ultimate Calligraphy trims add a Blind View Monitor.
• Infotainment: The Palisade offers either an 8-inch or 10.25-inch touchscreen. Only the 8-inch system gets wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while the larger screen still needs a wired connection. The Ultimate Calligraphy adds SiriusXM satellite radio, HD Radio, navigation, Blue Link connected services, and a 12-speaker Harman Kardon premium audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada predicts 11.1 litres per 100 kilometres in combined driving, and the test vehicle matched that figure.

Which 2021 Hyundai Palisade trim should I buy?

The 2021 Hyundai Palisade is offered in 4 trim levels: Essential, Preferred, Luxury, and Ultimate Calligraphy.

Here's the short version:

• Essential: This is the entry point, but it still gives you the core Palisade experience and the standard safety equipment. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model and do not need the richer cabin upgrades.
• Preferred: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds meaningful comfort and convenience without pushing too far up the price ladder. If you want the sweet spot between equipment and cost, start here.
• Luxury: This trim is the better choice if you want a more premium feel and the added blind-spot camera system. It suits you if you value extra tech and a more upscale daily driving experience.
• Ultimate Calligraphy: This is the most luxurious version, with the most distinctive styling and the richest cabin materials. Choose it if you want the Palisade to feel as close as possible to a luxury SUV.

Luxury and Ultimate Calligraphy trims also add the Blind View Monitor.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Hyundai Palisade?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 27.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 263 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 20.27% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $27,305 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Hyundai Palisade's resale value?

The current average of $27,431 CAD sits slightly below last year's $34,403 CAD.

That drop suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside for a future seller. If you plan to resell later, the current pricing trend means you should be realistic about depreciation from today’s level. Strong equipment, family appeal, and broad demand can still support values, but the market is clearly softer than it was a year ago.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.64/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Hyundai Palisade safe?

The 2021 Hyundai Palisade earns top safety ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Every Palisade includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, multiple lane-keeping systems, and a rear occupant alert system. Most trims add active blind-spot and rear cross-traffic warning, Safe Exit Assist, and an ultrasonic rear occupant alert system, while Luxury and Ultimate Calligraphy trims add a Blind View Monitor.

Highway Driving Assist is a standout feature, but it is not designed for hands-free driving. Keep your hands on the wheel and let it handle distance, speed, and lane maintenance.

Should I buy a 2021 Hyundai Palisade or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 27.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 20.27% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.64/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 adds more standard equipment, expanded infotainment capabilities, and a new luxury-themed trim level.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $32,745 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $27,431 CAD average.
• It adds direct gasoline injection and keeps standard all-wheel drive.

The bottom line: If you want the better value proposition, the 2021 is the smarter starting point because it combines strong satisfaction, a softer market, and a richer equipment story than the earlier model year. If you are willing to spend more for a newer example, the 2022 is the cleaner alternative for buyers who prioritise its updated powertrain details.
