What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Honda Civic?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The sedan comes in LX, EX, Sport, and Touring trims. The base setup is more basic, while the Touring adds the most upscale cabin and infotainment equipment.
• Powertrain: LX, EX, and Sport use a 2.0-litre four-cylinder with 158 horsepower and 138 pound-feet of torque, while Touring gets a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder with 174 hp and 162 lb-ft. The CVT helps fuel economy, but some drivers may find it less refined.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard and includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, road departure mitigation, lane keeping assist, automatic high-beam headlights, and a multi-angle rearview camera. LaneWatch starts on EX, and there is no traditional radar-based blind-spot warning system or rear cross-traffic warning.
• Infotainment: Standard equipment includes a 5-inch LCD screen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, text messaging support, and HondaLink. Touring upgrades to a 7-inch high-definition touchscreen, a 10-speaker audio system, HD Radio, SiriusXM, and navigation with bilingual voice recognition.
• Fuel efficiency: The CVT helped the test vehicle average 6.8 L/100 km on a 225-kilometre driving loop, versus an estimate of 7.1 L/100 km combined.

Which 2021 Honda Civic trim should I buy?

The 2021 Honda Civic is offered in 4 trim levels: LX, EX, Sport, and Touring.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point if you want the Civic’s core strengths at the lowest price, but it keeps the equipment list simple.
• EX: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds LaneWatch and more convenience without jumping all the way to the top model.
• Sport: Choose this if you want a more style-focused Civic with the 18-inch wheel look and a slightly more expressive feel.
• Touring: This is the most complete version, with the turbocharged 1.5-litre engine, the 7-inch touchscreen, premium audio, navigation, and the top-rated headlight setup tied to the best safety result.

Honda Sensing is standard across the lineup, while LaneWatch starts on EX and the Touring trim gets the most advanced infotainment and lighting package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Honda Civic?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you should shop with some patience and be ready to move when the right listing appears.

• Deal availability: 28.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 896 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.78% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $21,364 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Honda Civic's resale value?

The current average of $21,364 CAD sits slightly below last year's $23,420 CAD.

That softer pricing can be helpful if you are buying now, but it also means future sellers may face a more competitive market if values continue to ease.

Even so, the Civic’s strong reputation, broad demand, and reputation for reliability should help support resale interest over time.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Should I buy a 2021 Honda Civic or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 28.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.78% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Honda is retiring the 10th-generation Civic, making this the outgoing version before the redesign.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $20,350 CAD, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $21,364 CAD average.
• It adds minor design tweaks plus more standard safety and convenience features.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $23,951 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $21,364 CAD average.
• It brings a full redesign with stronger technology and a more modern cabin.

The bottom line: If you want the proven outgoing Civic with strong owner satisfaction and softer pricing, the 2021 is the sensible pick. If your priority is saving money, the 2020 is the better value; if you want the newest design and tech, move up to the 2022.
