The review summary also points to stylish appearance and good fuel economy, which fits the Civic’s role as a compact car that feels more polished than basic transportation. What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Honda Civic?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Civic’s standard safety suite is a major selling point, but the Si and Type R are exceptions, so you should confirm which features are included on the trim you’re considering.
• Powertrain: The 2.0-litre inline four-cylinder is standard on DX, LX, EX, and Sport sedans, plus LX and Sport coupes, while Touring models use the turbocharged 1.5-litre engine. The turbo engine is the better pick if you want quicker response and stronger mid-range acceleration.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard on every trim except the Si and Type R. It includes forward-collision alert with forward collision warning and emergency braking, lane-keep assist, lane departure warning, and adaptive cruise control.
• Infotainment: Standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are a big plus, and Bluetooth is standard too. Honda’s Garmin-based navigation is a standout, and LaneWatch is available on certain trims.
• Fuel efficiency: The turbo engine is described as the better choice for response and mid-range acceleration, while the CVT is praised for avoiding the strained feel some rivals have.

Which 2019 Honda Civic trim should I buy?

The 2019 Honda Civic is offered in 6 trim levels: DX, LX, EX, Sport, Touring, and Si.

Here's the short version:

• DX: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the Civic’s core driving character and value without paying for extras.
• LX: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it keeps the Civic affordable while adding the essentials you’re most likely to want in daily use.
• EX: This is a smart step up if you want more comfort and convenience without jumping to the pricier upper trims.
• Sport: This is the trim to consider if you want a little more visual flair and a sportier feel without moving into performance-car territory.
• Touring: This is the right choice if you want the most upscale Civic experience, including the top-tier audio system, navigation, and LED headlights.
• Si: This is the enthusiast pick, with the stronger turbocharged setup and a more performance-focused character than the regular trims.

Honda Sensing is standard on every trim except the Si and Type R.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Honda Civic?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully without waiting forever.

• Deal availability: 29.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 781 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.49% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $18,370 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 Honda Civic's resale value?

The current average of $18,370 CAD sits slightly below last year's $20,296 CAD.

That softer pricing means future sellers may not see the same strength they would have a year ago, especially if the market stays well supplied. If you buy now, you’re entering at a lower average cost basis, which can help reduce depreciation pressure later. Strong demand should still support resale better than average, especially for well-kept examples with desirable equipment.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 Honda Civic safe?

The Honda Civic earns five-star ratings in all NHTSA categories, with the exception of four-star ratings for the coupe's passenger-side frontal crash rating.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is standard on every trim level except the Si and Type R. It includes forward-collision alert with forward collision warning and emergency braking, lane-keep assist, lane departure warning, and adaptive cruise control. That makes the Civic a strong safety value in this class, especially if you choose a trim that includes the full suite.

Should I buy a 2019 Honda Civic or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 29.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.49% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It keeps the Civic’s polished driving feel while adding only minor tweaks for the year.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $19,917 CAD, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $18,370 CAD average.
• It adds minor design updates plus more standard safety and convenience features.

The bottom line: The 2019 is the better value if you want the Civic’s core strengths at a lower average price. If you’re willing to pay more for a newer model with a few extra standard features, the 2020 is the cleaner upgrade path.
