How much does the 2021 Hyundai Elantra cost?

Is the 2021 Hyundai Elantra a good car?

Yes — owners rate it 4.5/5, and our experts give it 8.8/10. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10. The Elantra’s appeal is strongest if you want a compact sedan that feels more polished than basic, with a smooth ride, great fuel economy, and comfortable seating. It also stands out for offering style, technology, and refinement without asking you to move into a luxury badge. With 32.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still meaningful value in the market.

Is the 2021 Hyundai Elantra reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The expert review also supports that impression by describing the Elantra as a cost-effective, well-rounded compact sedan with strong warranty coverage and free roadside assistance. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about core dependability and more about choosing the right trim for the features you want.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Hyundai Elantra?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base model is the main feature gap to watch for, since every 2021 Elantra except the base model gets SmartSense, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, and Safe Exit Warning. Higher trims also bring a nicer, higher-tech cabin, and the Ultimate stands out for its more upscale interior presentation.
• Powertrain: The standard Elantra uses a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine with a CVT, while the base model can also be had with a six-speed manual. The standard setup is tuned for easy urban driving and good efficiency, but it feels comparatively short on passing power.
• Safety package: SmartSense includes forward collision-avoidance assist with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centring assistance, automatic high-beam headlights, and driver attention warning. Higher versions add blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, Safe Exit Warning, cyclist detection, junction turning assistance, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, rear automatic braking, and Highway Drive Assist.
• Infotainment: Most models get an 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Higher trims add satellite radio, Bluetooth, Blue Link connected services, and wireless charging, while Ultimate trim can bring a 10.25-inch touchscreen with navigation and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada rates the standard engine at 7.8 L/100 km combined with the manual transmission, 6.4 L/100 km with the CVT, and 6.7 L/100 km combined on upper grades. The review also recorded 7.5 L/100 km in Normal mode.

Which 2021 Hyundai Elantra trim should I buy?

The 2021 Hyundai Elantra is offered in 4 trim levels: Essential, Preferred, N Line, and Ultimate.

Here's the short version:

• Essential: This is the entry point, but it is also the trim where you give up the most safety equipment, since SmartSense and several warning systems are not included here. It makes sense only if your priority is the lowest possible buy-in.
• Preferred: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the key safety and convenience equipment that the base model misses, while keeping the Elantra’s core value proposition intact.
• N Line: Choose this if you want the sportier side of the Elantra, with a turbocharged engine, quicker steering, larger brakes, and a more engaging chassis tune.
• Ultimate: This is the most upscale choice, with the richest cabin presentation and the most advanced tech, including the larger touchscreen and digital instrumentation.

For safety-minded buyers, the trims above the base model are the smarter picks because they unlock the full SmartSense suite and additional driver-assistance features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Hyundai Elantra?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory to shop carefully and enough deal activity to find value if you are patient.

• Deal availability: 32.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 567 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.35% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $17,550 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Hyundai Elantra's resale value?

The current average of $17,565 CAD sits slightly below last year's $20,040 CAD. That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help future sellers understand the current baseline. If you buy well today, you may have less downside risk than someone who paid closer to last year’s average. Strong value perception can also help keep demand steady when it is time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Hyundai Elantra safe?

The 2021 Elantra earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts. Every 2021 Elantra except the base model is equipped with SmartSense, Hyundai’s collection of advanced driver-assistance systems, and that suite includes forward collision-avoidance assist with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centring assistance, automatic high-beam headlights, and driver attention warning. Higher versions also add blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, Safe Exit Warning, cyclist detection, junction turning assistance, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, rear automatic braking, and Highway Drive Assist.

The main safety caveat is that the base model misses several of those features, so you will want to avoid that trim if safety equipment is a priority.

Should I buy a 2021 Hyundai Elantra or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 32.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.35% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The redesign brings a more polished, spacious, and tech-forward compact sedan.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $14,645 CAD, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $17,565 CAD average.
• It leans hard into value and adds improved fuel efficiency and safety packaging.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $18,612 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $17,565 CAD average.
• It adds stylish design, a roomy cabin, and excellent fuel economy.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of style, refinement, and value, the 2021 is the sweet spot. If your budget is tighter, the 2020 is the cheaper path, while the 2022 makes sense if you want a slightly newer take with similar strengths.

How does the 2021 Hyundai Elantra compare to the 2021 Honda Civic?

Our experts score the 2021 Hyundai Elantra 8.8/10 and the 2021 Honda Civic 7.2/10. The Elantra brings stronger value, a lower average used price, and a higher share of good and great deals. The Civic has more horsepower and more listings, but the Elantra is the better pick if you want the stronger overall bargain and a more compelling feature-for-price story.
