Used 2020 Toyota Highlander for Sale near Quebec

How much does the 2020 Toyota Highlander cost?

Prices have softened 9.96% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 236 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2020 Toyota Highlander a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Toyota Highlander earns a 4.6/5 user rating and a 7.17/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Form and function and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its smooth ride, spacious interior, and advanced features, and many also value its strong safety equipment. The trade-offs are clear too: the handling is poor, and the styling is uninspired. For you, that means the Highlander makes the most sense if comfort, family practicality, and a calm driving experience matter more than sharp dynamics or visual excitement.

Good and great deals account for 25.8% of listings, so there is still some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 Toyota Highlander reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with many drivers highlighting the Highlander as a vehicle they can count on for family use. The expert assessment also describes it as calm, refined, and easy to live with, which supports the case for long-term confidence. Toyota’s standard maintenance coverage adds another ownership perk, with the first scheduled maintenance visit included.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about whether the soft driving character and cabin materials meet your expectations over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Toyota Highlander?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The L trim gets the basics, while higher trims add more appealing exterior details such as LED running lamps and 20-inch alloy wheels. The cabin quality is a major strength throughout, but the upper trims feel notably more upscale.
• Powertrain: You get a 3.5-litre V6 with either FWD or AWD. It is smooth, quiet, and delivers brisk acceleration, but the suspension is soft and the steering is loose at highway speeds.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard and includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection and cyclist detection, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, parking sensors, and rear emergency braking are optional.
• Infotainment: The standard touchscreen is 8 inches, while the Platinum gets a 12.3-inch screen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, but the interface is dated and the screen resolution is low.
• Fuel efficiency: The Highlander L FWD is rated at 11.9 L/100 km city, 8.3 L/100 km highway, and 10.3 L/100 km combined. With AWD, it is rated at 11.7 L/100 km city, 8.6 L/100 km highway, and 10.3 L/100 km combined.

Which 2020 Toyota Highlander trim should I buy?

The 2020 Toyota Highlander is offered in 5 trim levels: L, LE, XLE, Limited, and Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• L: This is the entry point, but it still gives you the Highlander’s core strengths: a comfortable ride, standard safety tech, and a roomy family-friendly layout. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model.
• LE: This is the best-value trim. It builds on the base model with a better overall balance of equipment and price, and it is the trim the source identifies as the sweet spot.
• XLE: This trim adds more comfort and convenience equipment, making it a good choice if you want a more upscale daily driver without jumping to the pricier upper trims.
• Limited: This is where the Highlander starts to feel especially premium, with richer cabin materials, more upscale details, and the stronger Lexus-like character the model is known for.
• Platinum: This is the most fully equipped version, with the largest touchscreen, head-up display, and the most advanced-feeling cabin presentation.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard across the range, while blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, parking sensors, and rear emergency braking remain optional.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Toyota Highlander?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it rewards comparison shopping more than impulse buying.

• Deal availability: 25.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 236 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.96% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $34,050 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Toyota Highlander's resale value?

The current average of $34,882 CAD sits slightly below last year's $38,741 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, which can put some pressure on future resale expectations if you plan to sell soon. For you as a seller, it means pricing competitively will matter more than it did a year ago. The Highlander’s strong reputation for comfort and family usefulness should still help support demand, but the softer market means you may need to be realistic on asking price.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Toyota Highlander safe?

The 2020 Highlander earns a five-star overall safety rating from NHTSA and a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard, and it includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection and cyclist detection, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, parking sensors, and rear emergency braking are optional, so you should check the equipment list carefully if those features matter to you.

Should I buy a 2020 Toyota Highlander or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 25.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.96% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It was redesigned for 2020 and brings a calmer, more premium-feeling cabin.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $38,619 CAD, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $34,882 CAD average.
• It adds more standard safety-feature technology.

The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2020 if you want the better value and are comfortable with its softer, comfort-first character. If you are willing to pay more for added standard safety technology, the 2021 is the stronger pick for price-insensitive buyers.
