Used 2020 Subaru Outback for Sale near Niagara Falls, ON

How much does the 2020 Subaru Outback cost?

Prices have softened 15.50% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 218 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2020 Subaru Outback a good car?

Yes — with a 4.95/5 user rating and an expert rating of 7.67/10, it lands as a strong used buy for shoppers who want space, comfort, and all-weather usefulness. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its comfort, ample interior space, and smooth ride, and they also highlight its safety features and overall sense of value. The Outback’s standard all-wheel drive and roomy cabin fit well if you want a practical family vehicle that can handle Canadian weather and everyday hauling. The main trade-offs are the sluggish touchscreen response and the underwhelming base engine, so you should expect some frustration if you value quick infotainment or brisk acceleration.

The market also looks supportive, with 35.3% of listings classified as good or great deals.

Is the 2020 Subaru Outback reliable?

Owners rate it 4.95/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with praise for comfort, safety, and the kind of everyday usability that helps a vehicle feel easy to count on. The expert assessment also reinforces that sense of durability by highlighting Subaru’s standard all-wheel drive and the model’s broad usefulness in daily driving.

There is a caution for used buyers: the touchscreen and driver-monitoring tech can be frustrating, so you should check that the electronics behave properly before you buy.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Subaru Outback?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Convenience trim is the most stripped-back version, with dual 7-inch screens instead of the larger tablet-style display, and it feels more spartan than the higher trims. As you move up, you get more comfort and convenience equipment, with the Touring, Limited, Premier, Outdoor XT, Limited XT, and Premier XT adding progressively richer features.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.5-litre engine is tuned for everyday use, while the 2.4-litre turbocharged engine in XT trims is the better choice if you want stronger passing power, towing ability, or more confident mountain driving. Both engines use a CVT, and Subaru has tuned it to feel more like a traditional automatic.
• Safety package: Subaru’s EyeSight suite is standard and includes adaptive cruise control with forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and lane departure alert with lane-keep assist. The base trim also gets wiper-linked automatic headlights, while blind-spot monitoring and reverse auto braking arrive higher up the range.
• Infotainment: Most trims get the 11.6-inch touchscreen, while the base trim uses dual 7-inch screens. Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Bluetooth are included, but you should test the system carefully because lag is a known issue.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2.5-litre engine is rated at 9.0 L/100 km in the city, 7.1 L/100 km on the highway, and 8.2 L/100 km combined.

Which 2020 Subaru Outback trim should I buy?

The 2020 Subaru Outback is offered in 7 trim levels: Convenience, Touring, Limited, Premier, Outdoor XT, Limited XT, and Premier XT.

Here's the short version:

• Convenience: This is the value-focused starting point if you want the Outback’s core strengths at the lowest entry price. You still get heated front seats, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, keyless entry, LED headlights, automatic climate control, and the standard safety suite, but the smaller dual-screen setup and simpler cabin make it feel less polished than the trims above it.
• Touring: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the 11.6-inch touchscreen, dual-zone automatic climate control, a sunroof, a power liftgate, reverse auto braking, and blind-spot monitoring. If you want the biggest jump in everyday convenience without moving too far up the price ladder, this is the one to target.
• Limited: Choose this if you want a more upscale feel, with leather upholstery, a memory system for the driver, an upgraded Harman Kardon stereo, navigation, and a heated steering wheel. It suits you best if comfort and winter usability matter more than keeping the price down.
• Premier: This is the luxury-leaning pick, adding Nappa leather and ventilated front seats. It is the right choice if you want the most premium cabin experience in the standard engine lineup.
• Outdoor XT: This is the standout choice if you want the turbo engine and a more adventurous personality. It builds on the Limited’s equipment and adds heated rear seats, a front-view camera, hill-descent control, a more aggressive version of X-Mode, and unique exterior cladding, making it the most distinctive trim in the range.
• Limited XT: This is the Limited with the turbocharged engine, so it makes sense if you want the stronger powertrain but prefer the Limited’s equipment mix over the Outdoor XT’s more rugged focus.
• Premier XT: This is the most luxurious version, combining the turbo engine with the Premier’s upgraded cabin. It is the top pick if you want maximum comfort and performance together.

The safety package is standard across the lineup, but blind-spot monitoring is not included on the Touring trim.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Subaru Outback?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 35.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 218 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.50% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $23,224 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Subaru Outback's resale value?

The current average of $23,373 CAD sits slightly below last year's $27,659 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can make the Outback easier to buy now but less favourable for a future seller trying to maximise return. If you own one, the softer pricing trend means you may need to be more realistic when setting an asking price. Strong demand for practical, all-weather vehicles should still help support interest, especially for well-kept examples with desirable equipment.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.95/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Subaru Outback safe?

The 2020 Subaru Outback earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Subaru’s EyeSight suite is standard and includes adaptive cruise control with forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure alert, and lane-keep assist. The standard safety setup is strong for the price, and the base trim also includes wiper-linked automatic headlights. One caveat is that blind-spot monitoring is not standard on the Touring trim, so you should confirm equipment carefully if that feature matters to you.

Should I buy a 2020 Subaru Outback or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 35.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.50% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.95/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 adds a larger touchscreen, fresh safety tech, and new engines.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $26,346 CAD, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $23,373 CAD average.
• It leans harder into everyday practicality, reliability, and low running costs.

The bottom line: You should start with the 2020 if you want the better value and a broader set of modern features for less money. If your budget is tighter and you want the strongest deal potential, the 2020 is the smarter path; if you are willing to pay more for a newer model-year alternative, the 2021 is worth a look.
