How much does the 2017 Subaru Outback cost?

Prices have softened 18.32% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 176 listings available, which gives you a reasonable amount of choice in the used market.

Is the 2017 Subaru Outback a good car?

Yes — the 2017 Subaru Outback earns a 4.7/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its safety features, spacious interior, comfortable ride, and AWD capability, and the model’s practical, roomy wagon-shaped crossover layout makes it a strong fit if you want an easy-to-live-with family vehicle. The main trade-off owners mention is that the engine can feel underpowered, especially in the 2.5-litre version, but the overall package still lands well for shoppers who value comfort and all-weather usefulness. With 27.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2017 Subaru Outback reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that many drivers find reliable, dependable, and trouble-free over time, especially when they value the Outback’s all-weather capability and practical design. That kind of long-term confidence matters if you plan to keep the vehicle for years rather than just a short ownership cycle.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about the overall reputation and more about making sure the specific example you choose has been maintained properly.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Subaru Outback?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile options.

• Deal availability: 27.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 176 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 18.32% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $13,938 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Subaru Outback's resale value?

The current average of $13,967 CAD sits slightly below last year's $17,099 CAD.

That decline suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to price competitively if they want to move quickly. If you buy at today’s average, your resale outlook will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the vehicle has been maintained. The current pricing also leaves less room for appreciation, so the best resale outcomes will likely come from well-kept examples with strong service history.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Subaru Outback or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 27.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 18.32% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: The 2017 Outback makes the most sense if you want a well-liked, practical used crossover with strong owner approval and a market that has eased enough to create some buying opportunities. If you’re price-sensitive, you may also want to compare nearby years to see whether a similar Outback can be found at a lower asking price or with a better deal classification.
