How much does the 2019 Hyundai Elantra cost?

Prices have softened 20.45% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

Is the 2019 Hyundai Elantra a good car?

Yes — the 2019 Hyundai Elantra earns a 4.5/5 user rating and an 8.17/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Cost effectiveness and Technology.

Owners consistently praise its impressive features, smooth acceleration, and comfortable interior. The user feedback also highlights the spacious trunk and driving assist features, which fit the Elantra’s practical, everyday-use focus. That lines up with the overview: you’re looking at a compact sedan that leans hard into value, usefulness, and a polished feel rather than excitement.

With 28.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2019 Hyundai Elantra reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a car that feels dependable in daily use, with smooth operation, comfortable commuting manners, and features that make it easy to count on for errands and longer trips. The expert assessment also reinforces that this is a car built around value and everyday usefulness, with ownership perks that support a low-stress experience.

Hyundai’s warranty coverage and roadside assistance help reduce long-term ownership risk for used buyers, especially if you want predictable running costs.

What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Hyundai Elantra?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Essential is the most stripped-down version, while higher trims add more convenience and safety equipment. The biggest feature gaps are at the lower end, where you miss out on some of the driver-assistance and infotainment upgrades found higher up the range.
• Powertrain: The Elantra uses a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. It is tuned for everyday commuting rather than strong acceleration.
• Safety package: Forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking and lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist are included starting with Preferred. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and a driver-monitoring system can be added through the Sun and Safety Package, and these features are standard on higher trims. Adaptive cruise control, pedestrian-detection enhancement, and Safe Exit are reserved for Ultimate.
• Infotainment: The base Essential gets a rear-view camera and Bluetooth. Other trims add a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while Ultimate upgrades to an 8-inch display, navigation, and an Infinity premium audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada says the Elantra uses 7.4 L/100 km in combined driving with the automatic transmission, or 8.0 L/100 km with the manual.

Which 2019 Hyundai Elantra trim should I buy?

The 2019 Hyundai Elantra is offered in 5 trim levels: Essential, Preferred, Luxury, Sport, and Ultimate.

Here's the short version:

• Essential: This is the value-first entry point, but it is the most basic version and leaves out several of the convenience and safety upgrades found higher up the range. It makes sense only if your priority is the lowest possible purchase price.
• Preferred: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the key driver-assistance features and the 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It gives you the most important upgrades without pushing you into the pricier trims.
• Luxury: Choose this if you want a more upscale daily driver, since it adds satellite radio and more comfort-oriented equipment. It is a good middle ground if you want more features without going all the way to Ultimate.
• Sport: This is the trim to consider if you want the turbocharged character mentioned in the expert summary. It is the outlier in the range for buyers who care more about driving feel than pure value.
• Ultimate: This is the most fully equipped version, with the 8-inch touchscreen, navigation, adaptive cruise control, pedestrian-detection enhancement, Safe Exit, and the premium audio system. It suits you best if you want the most technology and safety content.

The safety-package trim note is simple: the most advanced driver-assistance features are concentrated in the higher trims, especially Ultimate.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Hyundai Elantra?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 28.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 454 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 20.45% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $12,221 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 Hyundai Elantra's resale value?

The current average of $12,256 CAD sits slightly below last year's $15,406 CAD.

That price drop suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the car more attractive to used buyers today. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, trim, and equipment rather than on broad market momentum alone. Well-equipped examples with the right features should hold buyer interest better than bare-bones versions.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 Hyundai Elantra safe?

The 2019 Hyundai Elantra gets top marks across the board from IIHS, except for an Acceptable rating for the accessibility of its LATCH child-seat anchors. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gives it a four-star overall rating, thanks to four-star frontal-impact results combined with a four-star side-impact protection rating for rear-seat occupants.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard safety story is strong for a compact sedan: forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking and lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist start with Preferred, while blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and a driver-monitoring system are available through the Sun and Safety Package and standard on higher trims. Ultimate adds adaptive cruise control, pedestrian-detection enhancement, and Safe Exit.

The main caveat is the LATCH anchor accessibility result, which is worth checking if you plan to install child seats regularly.

Should I buy a 2019 Hyundai Elantra or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 28.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 20.45% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2019 stands out for its freshened styling, stronger value proposition, and upgraded technology.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $14,663 CAD, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $12,256 CAD average.
• It adds improved fuel efficiency and newly packaged safety features.

The bottom line: If value is your top priority, the 2019 is the smarter buy because it combines a lower average price with strong owner satisfaction and a well-equipped feature set. If you can stretch for a newer example and want the added safety and efficiency updates, the 2020 is the better secondary path.
