The 2022 Porsche Macan retained much of its original design from its 2015 debut, despite undergoing several updates over the years. The model received a fresh styling update, larger standard wheels, and a new centre console with haptic touch controls, enhancing both its aesthetic appeal and functionality. The Macan lineup in Canada included four models: the base Macan, Macan T, Macan S, and Macan GTS, with the Macan S featuring a twin-turbo V6 engine previously found in the Macan GTS. Our test vehicle, a Macan S, showcased a striking Volcano Gray paint and 21-inch RS Spyder Design wheels, embodying Porsche's tradition of combining elegance with performance. Inside, the Macan's cabin exuded a sporty and upscale vibe, with red leather, gloss black interior trim, and silver metallic accents, drawing inspiration from other Porsche models.

The 2026 Toyota RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid was available exclusively in the Sport design in Canada, with the SE, XSE, and GR Sport trims. The GR Sport, inspired by Toyota's Gazoo Racing division, featured racier elements like red brake calipers, 20-inch black alloy wheels, and a wide mesh grille. The RAV4's design embraced a boxy, truck-like presence, with assertive grilles and rear diffusers extending its length. The interior offered mild differentiation among trims, with features like red stitching on black upholstery in the GR Sport. All grades came with a standard 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a touchscreen system, with the GR Sport and XSE trims offering additional features like ventilated seats and a low-profile shift-by-wire setup.

The 2022 Porsche Macan offered a range of powerful engines, with the base Macan and Macan T featuring a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine producing 261 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. The Macan GTS inherited a 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 engine from the previous Macan Turbo, delivering 434 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque. Our Macan S test car was equipped with a twin-turbo 2.9-litre V6 engine, producing 375 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque, allowing it to accelerate to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds with the optional Sport Chrono Package. The Macan's seven-speed PDK dual-clutch automatic transmission and fully variable AWD system contributed to its impressive performance. The Macan S also featured larger 20-inch wheels, Porsche Active Suspension Management, and optional performance upgrades like Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus and Porsche Surface Coated Brakes, ensuring a thrilling driving experience.

The 2026 Toyota RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid boasted an updated 2.5-litre inline four-cylinder engine with 186 horsepower, paired with a larger 22.7-kwh battery pack. This combination resulted in a total power output of 324 hp, making it the most powerful RAV4 to date. The PHEV offered an estimated electric range of 80 kilometres, with AWD as standard. The RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid excelled in EV mode for quiet city driving, while Auto mode allowed for a 0-100 km/h time in the low five seconds. The vehicle's seamless power transition and paddle shifters provided a spirited ride without compromising comfort. The GR Sport trim, with its lower ground clearance and enhanced suspension, offered improved handling and stability, making it a sportier option within the RAV4 lineup.

The 2022 Porsche Macan provided a comfortable experience for the driver and front-seat passenger, with optional 14-way power-adjustable front seats offering heating and ventilation. However, the rear seats were cramped, especially for taller passengers. The redesigned centre console with haptic touch controls offered a modern look but required drivers to look away from the road to use them. Cargo space measured 488 litres behind the rear seats, expandable to 1,503 litres with the rear seats folded down.

The 2022 Porsche Macan came equipped with a 10.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, known as Porsche Communication Management (PCM). It included wireless Apple CarPlay, SiriusXM satellite radio, a navigation system, and connected services. The system featured touch-sensing virtual buttons and proximity sensing, offering an intuitive user experience. However, the voice recognition system was less reliable compared to competitors. The Voice Assistant responded to a wide range of prompts, and the system allowed for locating chargers along routes, enhancing the plug-in hybrid experience.

Optional features included blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, and automatic emergency braking. The Macan's safety technologies performed as expected, but it lacked advanced driving assistance features found in some competitors. The Macan also offered optional Park Assist and a surround-view camera for parking assistance.

The 2026 Toyota RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid came with Toyota Safety Sense 4.0, offering a comprehensive suite of driver assistance features. These included automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, and a safe exit alert. The system's enhancements improved responsiveness and detection, contributing to the RAV4's strong safety record. The RAV4 also featured a surround-view camera system on higher trims, aiding in parking and manoeuvring.
