2026 BMW X3 Reviews SummaryBMW offers the 2026 X3 in two flavours: 30 xDrive and M50. The latter is tuned for performance, but the base X3 30 xDrive is so good that you might be happy trading the M50’s outright speed and sheer capability for significant savings. BMW redesigned this compact luxury crossover in 2025, and the only tweaks for 2026 make the base model look and feel a little more upscale inside. Verdict: For this review, we evaluated the BMW X3 M50. It was terrific, but with a sticker price more than $15,000 higher than the rewarding X3 30 xDrive, it’s hard to justify the extra money.
2026 Hyundai Venue Reviews SummaryAutomakers have traditionally had a hard time making money on entry-level subcompact cars because they have low profit margins. But North America has largely moved away from cars to crossover SUVs — and higher prices. That allows car companies to offer an entry-level subcompact SUV for thousands more than a similar sedan or hatchback. Such is the case with the Hyundai Venue, which costs more than its predecessor, the subcompact Accent that was dropped in Canada after the 2020 model year. While the price is higher, the advantage for buyers is a vehicle that generally has more cargo space and is more practical. We recently drove the 2026 Hyundai Venue to find out if a subcompact crossover is a better buy than a cheaper subcompact car. Verdict: The Hyundai Venue sacrifices refinement for a price point that isn’t as low as a comparable subcompact car. We’d be tempted to spend a little more for a slightly larger compact car with more power, features, and refinement.

The 2026 BMW X3, particularly the X3 M50 model, was a luxurious compact SUV that commanded attention with its high price tag. Starting at $81,592, the test vehicle featured numerous upgrades, including a striking Frozen Deep Grey paint job and 21-inch wheels, pushing the MSRP to over $100,000 Canadian. Despite its high cost, the X3's interior, with its Amber over Atlas Grey leather, felt expensive but didn't quite justify the six-figure price. The design was described as "monolithic," with a cold, industrial aesthetic that was not universally appealing. The illuminated grille surround was a point of contention, though the vehicle's nighttime lighting was praised. However, the touch-sensing controls and austere cabin were seen as cheap, despite BMW's efforts to improve the interior with artificial leather and upgraded trim.
In contrast, the 2026 Hyundai Venue was a compact crossover SUV that leaned more towards a tall hatchback in design. It featured a small, narrow appearance with SUV-like elements such as a bluff nose and available roof rails. The Venue's design was more suited to European streets, with a high nose, lower headlights, and a two-tone roof option for added flair. Inside, the Venue offered a simple and functional look, with a digital instrument cluster and a small touchscreen that resembled an iPad. The interior was practical, with body-colour trim adding a touch of style, but overall, it lacked the premium feel of the BMW X3.
The 2026 BMW X3 offered a range of performance options, with the X3 M50 model featuring a turbocharged 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder engine producing 393 horsepower and 428 pound-feet of torque. This engine provided exhilarating acceleration, reaching 100 km/h in just 4.6 seconds. The M50 also included performance hardware such as an M Sport rear differential, M Sport brakes, and an Adaptive M suspension. The base X3 30 xDrive, with a 255-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine, was also sprightly, achieving 100 km/h in 6.3 seconds. Both models came standard with all-wheel drive, and the X3 M50's towing capacity was impressive at 2,200 kilograms. The X3's fuel efficiency was reasonable, with a combined rating of 8.6 litres per 100 kilometres.
In contrast, the 2026 Hyundai Venue was powered by a naturally aspirated 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine, producing just 121 horsepower and 113 pound-feet of torque. This engine was paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and front-wheel drive. The Venue's acceleration was modest, with a 0-100 km/h time of 8.5–8.8 seconds. While the Venue felt peppy in city traffic, it struggled at highway speeds, and the transmission's performance was less than stellar. The Venue's handling benefited from its small size and low weight, making it easy to manoeuvre in tight spaces. However, the ride was less comfortable on rough roads due to its solid rear axle.
The 2026 BMW X3 featured heated, power-adjustable front sport seats wrapped in Veganza, BMW's vegan artificial leather upholstery. The front seats were comfortable and supportive, but rear passengers might find the seating less accommodating. The X3 offered generous cargo space, with 892 litres available behind the rear seats and 1,900 litres with the seats folded. A standard panoramic glass sunroof added to the sense of space, and a temporary spare tire was included under the cargo floor.
The 2026 Hyundai Venue's interior featured cloth and synthetic leather seats with manual adjustments. While comfortable, the Venue's front seats lacked power adjustments, and legroom was limited for taller occupants. The rear seat offered just enough space for average-sized adults, but three passengers would find it cramped. The Venue's cargo space was modest, with 528 litres available with the rear seats folded and 902 litres with the seats up. The Venue's interior materials were primarily hard black plastic, with limited soft-touch surfaces.
The 2026 BMW X3 was equipped with a BMW Curved Display, featuring a 12.3-inch digital driver display and a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The system ran BMW Operating System 9 with QuickSelect, offering cloud-based navigation, Augmented View video, and more. However, the system had some real-world issues, particularly in Guest mode. The X3 also included BMW Intelligent Assistant voice recognition and wireless Apple CarPlay, though there were occasional glitches.
The 2026 Hyundai Venue featured a simple 8-inch touchscreen for basic infotainment functions. While the screen size felt small, it was functional and responsive. The Venue lacked features like navigation and a Wi-Fi hotspot, but it did offer wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The audio system was a basic six-speaker unit, and a wireless charging pad was standard in Canada.
The 2026 BMW X3 came with a comprehensive suite of driver assistance systems, including forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, and more. The optional Driving Assistant Professional Package added advanced features like lane-centring assist and adaptive cruise control. The X3's safety systems were generally refined, though there were occasional hiccups. The X3 received a four-star overall rating from the NHTSA and a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the IIHS.
The 2026 Hyundai Venue offered a good set of standard safety features, including forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and lane keep assist. However, adaptive cruise control was not available. The Venue's safety systems worked well, though the driver attention monitor was overly sensitive. The Venue received a four-star rating from the NHTSA, and while the IIHS had not released full ratings, the Venue scored well in some tests.
