2024 MINI Countryman Reviews SummaryThe new MINI Countryman arrives next year and we know at least one version of the 2025 Countryman will be electric, if not all of them. In the meantime, the 2024 MINI Countryman enters its eighth year in second-generation spec. Three gas-powered variants are offered in addition to the Cooper SE plug-in hybrid.
2025 Jeep Wrangler Reviews SummaryYou know what you’re getting with the Jeep Wrangler: iconic looks and legendary off-road ability but an overall package somewhat out of step with the times. Even so, it’s a model that’s continually evolving, and Jeep does its best to appeal to the broadest cross-section of customers possible. You can get a Wrangler with two-door or four-door body styles, and you have a choice between two engines and six trim levels. This year, all 2025 Wrangler models have standard power windows and door locks, the V6/automatic drivetrain returns to the lineup, while new colours include ’41 (drab green), and Mojito (bright green). Verdict: Rough, raw, and unrefined, the 2025 Wrangler is made for adventure and getting dirty. The top comes off. The doors come off. There are drain holes in the floor so you can hose it out. This Jeep can be unpleasant to drive daily, yet we love it just the same.

The 2024 MINI Countryman was a vehicle that embraced its playful nature, showcasing classic MINI styling with an erect wraparound windshield and a floating roof reminiscent of a bimini top. It proudly displayed its British heritage with Union Jack taillights. The Countryman offered a variety of customization options, including numerous paint treatments, roof and mirror cap colours, and multiple wheel designs. In Canada, the Countryman ALL4 lineup included the Cooper, Cooper S, Cooper SE, and John Cooper Works models, each with distinct drivetrains. The Cooper models featured a turbocharged three-cylinder engine, while the Cooper S and John Cooper Works versions boasted a turbocharged four-cylinder engine with varying power outputs. The Cooper SE was a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, offering a modest 29 kilometres of electric driving range before switching to hybrid mode. Special editions like the Untamed Edition added unique features and styling elements to the mix.
In contrast, the 2025 Jeep Wrangler Sport S hardtop, with its black-on-black-on-black colour scheme, was less about aesthetics and more about rugged functionality. Despite the heat-absorbing colour combination, the Wrangler's design was rooted in its World War II military vehicle heritage, emphasizing its capability to tackle any terrain. The Wrangler was available in various trims, including Sport, Sport S, Willys, Sahara, Rubicon, and Rubicon X, with the Rubicon 392 being discontinued in Canada after 2024. The Wrangler's interior was designed for durability, with features like a grey fabric dashboard trim, metallic accents, and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system. While the Wrangler's design was not as sophisticated as some modern vehicles, its appeal lay in its ability to go almost anywhere, making it a popular choice for adventure seekers.

The 2024 MINI Countryman offered a range of performance options, with the John Cooper Works (JCW) model standing out as the most powerful. It featured a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine producing 301 horsepower and 331 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed sport automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. The JCW could accelerate to 100 km/h in approximately 5 seconds, making it the choice for those seeking speed and excitement. The Cooper S, with its 189 horsepower and 206 pound-feet of torque, provided a zippy and athletic driving experience, reaching 100 km/h in about 7.3 seconds. While the Countryman excelled in daily driving scenarios, it wasn't designed for off-road adventures. Fuel economy was reasonable, with a combined rating of 9.1 litres per 100 kilometres, although real-world testing showed slightly higher consumption.
The 2025 Jeep Wrangler offered two engine options: a 3.6-litre V6 with a six-speed manual transmission and a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The four-cylinder engine delivered 270 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, providing a lively performance, especially at higher elevations. The Wrangler's fuel economy was slightly better with the turbocharged engine, achieving a combined rating of 11.0 litres per 100 kilometres. During testing, the Wrangler averaged 12.3 L/100 km with four passengers and air conditioning running. The Wrangler's off-road capabilities were a highlight, with standard four-wheel drive, high ground clearance, and excellent approach and departure angles. However, its on-road handling was less refined, with slow steering and a rough ride.
Inside the 2024 MINI Countryman, there was room for four adults and their luggage for a week-long road trip. The front seats were small but supportive, and the steering wheel was a pleasure to grip. While the Countryman had seatbelts for five, four passengers were more comfortable. Rear legroom was adequate, and the MINI's compact dimensions made parking easy. However, the lack of advanced parking technologies like a surround-view camera was a drawback. Interior storage was reasonable, but the smartphone charging pad blocked access to the tray beneath it. Cargo space was limited, with 498 litres behind the rear seats and 1,348 litres with the seats folded down.
The 2025 Jeep Wrangler presented challenges when it came to entry and exit due to its high ground clearance and narrow door openings. Once inside, the front seats were comfortable, and the Sport S trim's cloth upholstery was suitable for various climates. The Convenience Group option added heated front seats and a heated steering wheel. Rear-seat legroom was adequate, but taller passengers needed to be cautious of plastic hooks on the front seatbacks. Storage space was limited, with small bins and cupholders being the primary options. Cargo access was cumbersome, requiring the opening of the tailgate and rear window. The four-door model offered 897 litres of cargo space, expandable to 2,050 litres with the rear seats folded.
The 2024 MINI Countryman featured a modest array of technology, with a small digital instrumentation display and a head-up display (HUD) projecting information on a small screen. The 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, housed in a round casing reminiscent of classic Mini speedometers, used BMW's iDrive technology. It offered multiple interaction methods, including touchscreen, steering wheel controls, and voice recognition. However, the system lacked Android Auto connectivity, providing only Apple CarPlay. An optional 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system enhanced the audio experience.
The 2025 Jeep Wrangler's Uconnect 5 infotainment system was a standout feature, with a 12.3-inch touchscreen display, Bluetooth connectivity, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and SiriusXM satellite radio preparation. The Sport S trim came with an eight-speaker stereo, while a nine-speaker Alpine premium sound system was optional. Jeep Connect offered adventure guides and GPS trail logs for off-road navigation. The touchscreen remained bright and easy to use, even with the roof panels removed. The Convenience Group pack added a 7-inch digital display, passive entry, and remote engine starting. Rear parking sensors were available in the Safety Group option pack.
The 2024 MINI Countryman had limited advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), with Active Driving Assistant providing forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and automatic high-beam headlights. Rear parking sensors and an emergency SOS call button were standard, while adaptive cruise control was optional. The Countryman lacked features like blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) rated the Countryman as Good in crashworthiness evaluations.
The 2025 Jeep Wrangler introduced side curtain airbags for front and rear seats as standard equipment. Advanced driver assistance systems were optional, with blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert available on most trims. Forward collision warning with automatic braking was limited to the Sahara trim. Adaptive cruise control and automatic high-beam headlights were also available. The Wrangler received a four-star frontal-impact rating and a three-star rollover resistance rating from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The IIHS rated the Wrangler as Good for side-impact protection and moderate overlap frontal-impact tests, but it received a Marginal rating in the small overlap frontal-impact test.
