2023 Ford F-150 Reviews Summary

This year, Ford expands the F-150 lineup yet again. The big news is the debut of the F-150 Raptor R, equipped with a supercharged 5.2-litre V8 engine making 700 horsepower and 640 pound-feet of torque. The new 2023 F-150 Raptor R also has exclusive R-tuned Fox live-valve shocks, standard 37-inch all-terrain tires, and a few other goodies to justify its presumably six-figure price tag (Canadian pricing has not been announced as of publication time).

The other new version of the 2023 Ford F-150 is more accessible: the XLT Heritage Edition. It has two-tone paint, unique cloth seat inserts, and exclusive 75 Years interior details. That’s the subject of this review.

2023 RAM 2500 Reviews Summary

The Ram Power Wagon is a beast off-road and looks like it chews up and spits out lesser 2500-series heavy-duty pickup trucks for fun, but it’s also a purpose-built tool that isn’t easy to live with on a daily basis. The Ford F-250 Tremor and GMC Sierra 2500HD AT4 may not match the Power Wagon for sheer adventuring capability, but they retain more towing and payload capacity than the decal-decorated Ram, which can tow no more than 4,800 kilograms (10,590 pounds) and carry no more than 740 kilograms (1,630 pounds) of payload. Enter the new 2023 Ram 2500 Rebel. Problem solved.

The 2023 Ford F-150 offered a wide array of configurations, making it a versatile choice for buyers. It came in regular, extended (Super Cab), and crew cab (SuperCrew) styles, with cargo bed lengths ranging from 5.5 to 8 feet. The model lineup included eight trims, from the basic XL to the high-performance Raptor, with prices starting at $44,055 and reaching $105,275. The test model, an XLT Super Crew, featured a twin-turbocharged 3.5-litre V6 engine and numerous optional packages, bringing its price to $77,675. The F-150's design was familiar and appealing, with a functional interior that emphasized practicality over aesthetics. Despite some minor issues with the shifter and steering wheel controls, the cloth seats were comfortable and durable.

The 2023 RAM 2500 Rebel shared similarities with the Power Wagon but had distinct features like a sport hood and 20-inch wheels. It came with a crew-cab configuration and a 6-foot, 4-inch cargo bed. The standard engine was a 6.4-litre V8, but a 6.7-litre Cummins turbodiesel was also available. The base price was $79,195, with additional options bringing the MSRP to $98,920. The Rebel benefited from updates like a 12-inch digital instrumentation panel and enhanced towing technologies. Inside, the truck offered quality materials and a luxurious feel, though the gloss black plastic was prone to dust and fingerprints. The Mega Cab back seat was spacious, and the truck provided ample storage options.

Paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, it delivered smooth acceleration. A 6.7-litre Cummins turbodiesel option offered 370 horsepower and 850 pound-feet of torque. The V8 provided the highest towing capacity of 7,652 kilograms and a payload of 1,455 kilograms. The Cummins was more fuel-efficient, with highway driving averaging 12.3 L/100 km. The Rebel's frame was robust, and it featured off-road capabilities with 20-inch wheels and off-road tires. The steering required constant input on narrow roads, but the truck was smooth and refined on highways.
