2021 Chevrolet Tahoe Reviews Summary

The full-size SUV segment is a relatively small one, and Chevrolet dominates it. The Tahoe, and its extended-length twin, the Suburban, account for about half of all big SUV sales despite competitive shortcomings in terms of interior comfort, cargo space, and towing capability. With the all-new 2021 Chevy Tahoe (and Suburban), two of those three flaws are resolved. At the same time, the 2021 Tahoe gets a big upgrade in terms of driving dynamics, technology, and innovation.

2022 Genesis GV70 Reviews Summary

Have you heard of Genesis, the luxury off-shoot brand created by Hyundai Motor Group a little more than five years ago? Those who follow the automotive industry may be aware of the brand’s intentionally disruptive character. But it’s not a surprise if the name is new to you: Genesis launched somewhat quietly with a line-up of sedans including the Genesis G70 and Genesis G80, initially lacking in the luxury SUV options Canadian buyers crave. Now, those are starting to arrive, first with the mid-size Genesis GV80 launched last year, and now the new GV70, a compact two-row SUV that casually drops into Canada’s most competitive luxury segment. Genesis says it expects this vehicle to double its Canadian sales—and it might achieve that goal, provided it can get the attention of Canadians in a segment already overflowing with stiff competition.

2021 Chevrolet Tahoe

7/10

2022 Genesis GV70

8/10

The 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe offered a diverse range of trims, each with distinct styling cues. The base LS and LT models featured different grille patterns, while the RST trim boasted a sporty blacked-out appearance with 22-inch wheels. The Z71 was designed for off-roading, incorporating a rugged front end, red tow hooks, and all-terrain tires. The Premier trim added chrome accents and polished wheels, and the High Country exuded luxury with a chrome bar grille and bright-finished 22-inch wheels. The Tahoe's design was characterized by its dominant grille and standard LED headlights, with a more expressive rear featuring quad-outlet dual exhausts. Despite its slab-sided appearance, larger wheels enhanced its overall look. Prices ranged from $57,048 for the LS to $81,448 for the High Country, with the Z71 trim tested at $80,293, including various option packages.

Inside, the Tahoe's interior was centred around a 10.2-inch infotainment screen and new electronic transmission controls, which improved storage but compromised control layout. The LS trim featured cloth seats, while leather became standard from the LT trim onwards. The Premier and High Country trims offered perforated leather options. The Z71 trim's interior quality met expectations, with exposed stitching and soft-touch surfaces in the upper cabin, while hard plastics were used in the lower half. The Tahoe's interior was spacious, accommodating up to eight passengers, though the absence of a front bench seat limited seating capacity.

The 2022 Genesis GV70 stood out with its distinctive styling, diverging from the rest of the brand's lineup. It featured the brand's two-line lighting signature, creating an illusion of a contiguous circle around the vehicle. The GV70's design included a unique shoulder line and accent lines around the side windows. Dark chrome finishes and a cross-hatched matrix pattern on the Sport grades emphasized its sporty intent. Genesis offered a wide range of exterior and interior colour combinations, allowing for creative customization. The GV70's cabin featured an elliptical theme inspired by airplane wings, with genuine carbon fibre inserts available on Sport trims. Interior surfaces were of high quality, with some plastic elements in less frequently encountered areas.

The Tahoe's 10-speed automatic transmission powered the rear wheels, with four-wheel drive optional on base trims and standard on others. The Z71 trim included a two-speed transfer case, hill descent control, and off-road enhancements. The Tahoe's towing capacity reached up to 3,810 kilograms, with a payload capacity of 831 kilograms. The GV70's eight-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive prioritized the rear axle, with up to 50% of torque transferred to the front wheels when needed. The Sport Plus grade included an electronic limited-slip differential. The GV70 featured Eco, Comfort, Sport, and Sport+ drive modes, with Sport+ delivering aggressive performance. The electronically controlled suspension system used a forward camera to adapt to road conditions, providing a balance between comfort and feedback. The GV70's turning radius was notably tight, enhancing urban maneuverability.
