Is the 2024 Mazda CX-90 a good car?

Generally — the 2024 Mazda CX-90 earns a 4.3/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 10/10.

You get a three-row crossover that Mazda positions as family-hauling but still enjoyable to drive, with rear-wheel-drive architecture, excellent handling, and a stylish design. It also offers terrific powertrains, including a turbocharged straight-six and an available PHEV, so you can choose the setup that best fits your priorities.

The trade-offs are that the PHEV electric range could be better and the technology can be frustrating. That matters most if you want the easiest-to-use infotainment experience or the longest possible electric-only driving range.

With 31.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is meaningful market choice if you shop carefully.

Is the 2024 Mazda CX-90 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.3/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The CX-90 is presented as a well-built, premium-feeling SUV with strong composure and a refined driving character. Mazda’s performance focus also shows up in the way the vehicle is described as handling like a much smaller SUV, which usually helps confidence over time if you value a chassis that feels sorted.

Mazda’s safety suite is standard, and the model is expected to perform well based on the brand’s prior results. The infotainment setup is the main ownership annoyance, so long-term satisfaction may depend on how much you can live with the interface.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Mazda CX-90?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The CX-90’s trims vary in appearance and cabin finish, and higher trims bring a more upscale interior with materials such as brown suede upholstery and wood inlays. Base trims will not feel as luxurious, so you should compare cabin materials and overall presentation carefully.
• Powertrain: You can choose between a turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine and a plug-in hybrid setup. The turbo I6 is described as powerful and engaging, while the PHEV adds electric driving capability but has a shorter electric range.
• Safety package: i-Activsense comes standard and includes blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, smart brake support with front-crossing and turn-across-traffic identification, rear cross-traffic alert, safe-exit warning, lane-departure warning, and lane-keeping assist. Higher trims add cruising and traffic support.
• Infotainment: Mazda Connect uses a rotary controller instead of a touchscreen for native functions, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available in higher-level trims. If you want the easiest interface, test the system before you buy.
• Fuel efficiency: The PHEV is estimated at 4.2 Le/100 km combined and offers 42 km of all-electric range.

Which 2024 Mazda CX-90 trim should I buy?

The 2024 Mazda CX-90 is offered in 8 trim levels: GS, GS-L, GT, GT-P, Signature, GS, GS-L, and GT.

Here's the short version:

• GS: This is the entry point if you want the CX-90’s core strengths at the lowest price, including the standard safety suite and the model’s stylish design. It makes sense if you care most about getting into the platform and can live without the richer cabin details of the upper trims.
• GS-L: Choose this if you want a better balance of equipment and value, since it should give you more comfort and convenience without pushing you all the way to the pricier trims. For many shoppers, this is the best-value path.
• GT: This is the trim to target if you want a more polished daily driver with more premium features and a stronger sense of luxury. It suits you if you want the CX-90’s style and comfort to feel more complete.
• GT-P: Pick this if you want the stronger-feeling powertrain and a more enthusiast-leaning setup. It is the right choice if driving enjoyment matters more than keeping costs down.
• Signature: This is the top choice if you want the most upscale CX-90 experience, including the richest interior presentation and the most premium feel overall. It is the trim to buy if you want the full luxury-leaning character Mazda is aiming for.

The standard safety package is a strong selling point across the lineup, so even lower trims are well equipped on that front.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Mazda CX-90?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 31.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 387 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.39% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $40,395 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 Mazda CX-90's resale value?

The current average of $40,395 CAD sits slightly below last year's $45,587 CAD.

That price movement suggests the CX-90 has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price. If you purchase near the current average or below it, you may have less downside than someone who bought when prices were higher.

The model’s premium image, strong handling, and broad appeal as a three-row SUV should help support demand. Still, resale will depend on trim, condition, and how well the technology and powertrain choices age in the used market.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.3/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2024 Mazda CX-90 safe?

The CX-90 comes standard with Mazda’s i-Activsense driver-assistance suite, which includes blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, smart brake support with front-crossing and turn-across-traffic identification, rear cross-traffic alert, safe-exit warning, lane-departure warning, and lane-keeping assist.

Higher trims add cruising and traffic support, which blends lane-centring with adaptive cruise control for more relaxed highway driving. The main caveat is that the model has not been crash-tested by IIHS or NHTSA in the provided data, so there are no official ratings to cite here.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Should I buy a 2024 Mazda CX-90 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 31.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.39% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.3/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It delivers excellent handling and terrific powertrains in a stylish three-row package.

Consider the 2025 if:

• At $42,553 CAD, the 2025 costs more than the current year's $40,395 CAD average.
• It adds a more upscale feel with premium interior materials and great safety ratings.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2024 is the smarter buy because prices have eased and inventory is healthy. If you are willing to pay more for a newer model year, the 2025 is the better path for shoppers who want the latest version of the CX-90’s premium character.
