Is the 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.67/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise the comfortable and luxurious interior, impressive handling, and strong performance, especially with the turbo engine. The available Bose stereo system also comes up as a favourite feature. In practical terms, that lines up well with a car that is meant to feel more polished than many mainstream compact alternatives.

The trade-offs are a cramped back seat and unintuitive technology, and the car is also described as poor on fuel economy. If you want a compact car that prioritises style and driving enjoyment over maximum practicality, this model year fits that brief well.

With 28.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still meaningful market opportunity if you shop carefully.

Is the 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a dependable-feeling car with strong satisfaction around the interior, performance, and overall ownership experience. The expert evaluation also describes the Mazda3 as a car you can trust, with a refined, composed character that supports confidence over time.

Mazda Connected Services is complimentary for two years of ownership, which adds some useful ownership convenience. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about durability and more about whether the car’s technology and fuel use will suit your daily routine.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Mazda MAZDA3?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup spans sedan and hatchback body styles, with base versions focused on value and higher grades adding more equipment. The GT grades bring adaptive front headlights, Traffic Jam Assist, reverse automatic braking, and a surround-view camera system, so you should check whether the trim you are considering includes the features you want.
• Powertrain: You can find a 2.0-litre four-cylinder with 155 horsepower and 150 pound-feet of torque, a 2.5-litre four-cylinder with 186 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque, and a turbocharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder with up to 250 horsepower and 320 pound-feet of torque on premium fuel. The turbo version is paired with standard AWD and a six-speed automatic.
• Safety package: Blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard, while adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high-beam headlights cost extra on most versions. GT grades add more advanced equipment, including Traffic Jam Assist and a surround-view camera system.
• Infotainment: Mazda Connect uses an 8.8-inch static display, Bluetooth, steering wheel controls, and voice recognition. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are supported, and Mazda Connected Services is complimentary for two years.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2.0-litre engine uses 7.6 L/100 km combined, or 7.7 L/100 km with the manual transmission. The 2.5-litre non-turbo engine ranges from 7.8 to 8.6 L/100 km combined, while the turbo version uses 8.8 L/100 km in sedan form and 8.9 L/100 km in hatchback form.

Which 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 trim should I buy?

The 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 is offered in 3 trim levels: GX sedan, 2.5-litre four-cylinder, and turbocharged version.

Here's the short version:

• GX sedan: This is the most affordable entry point, and it gives you the base 2.0-litre engine with the best fuel economy in the lineup. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the Mazda3 and can live without the extra performance and equipment of the higher trims.
• 2.5-litre four-cylinder: This is the best-value choice for most shoppers because it adds stronger performance without jumping all the way to turbo pricing. It should suit you if you want a more balanced Mazda3 with broader everyday appeal.
• turbocharged version: This is the pick for you if you want the strongest acceleration, standard AWD, and the most upscale driving experience. It is the most expensive route, but it also delivers the most character.

GT grades get adaptive front headlights that swivel when you turn the steering wheel, plus Traffic Jam Assist, reverse automatic braking, and a surround-view camera system.

Should I buy a 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 28.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.41% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It combines strong safety ratings with a fresh Platinum Quartz Metallic paint colour.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $20,778 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $22,919 CAD average.
• It adds a turbocharged engine and leans into sharper performance.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $25,244 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $22,919 CAD average.
• It adds SUV-like versatility with a hatchback layout and more cargo-friendly everyday use.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of price, safety, and overall appeal, the 2022 is the strongest all-round choice. If you are more price-sensitive, the 2021 is worth a look; if you want a newer-feeling hatchback with added versatility, the 2023 is the better alternative.
