Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: i-Activsense with forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, automatic high beams, a driver condition monitor, blind-spot monitors, and rear cross-traffic alert.
- Infotainment: 10.25-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus a wireless charging pad.

Which Mazda MAZDA3 trim should I buy?

- GS: Adds the option of all-wheel drive, giving you more traction and broader winter-weather capability.
- GT: Brings the available Turbo engine, plus higher-end equipment such as adaptive headlights, a head-up display, lane centring, a surround-view camera system, reverse automatic braking, and the available Bose audio system; this is the best-value choice if you want the richest mix of performance and features.
What Mazda MAZDA3 do most buyers choose?

Is the Mazda MAZDA3 safe?
- 2026: 6/10
- 2025: 9/10
- 2024: 9/10
- 2023: 8/10
- 2022: 10/10
- 2021: 10/10
All 2026 Mazda3 models come standard with i-Activsense, including forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, automatic high beams, a driver condition monitor, blind-spot monitors, and rear cross-traffic alert.
For the safest used buy, the 2021 and 2022 models both post the highest confirmed score of 10/10.
Should I buy a used Mazda MAZDA3 now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2025 model is at −0.94% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −9.07%.
- Deal availability: The 2024 model has 29.6% good and great deals.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2018 model has the most listings at a current average price of $15,078 CAD. The Mazda MAZDA3 offers a stylish, driver-focused character that makes it feel more special than many compact cars.
Consider waiting if:
- Powertrain/efficiency: The 2026 Mazda3 is offered with a choice of two drivetrains. The standard engine on all three trims in Canada—GX, GS, and GT—is a 2.5-litre four-cylinder that produces 186 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque. The Turbo engine, which is optional on the GT trim, increases output to 227 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque on regular unleaded fuel with forced induction.
- Tech: Higher-trimmed models get a 10.25-inch touchscreen, but touch input is only enabled for Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, both of which operate wirelessly in those higher trims and come with a wireless charging pad, too.
- Safety: The top GT model adds adaptive headlights, a head-up display, lane centring, a surround-view camera system, and reverse automatic braking.
- Starting price: The 2026 Mazda3 sedan has a manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of $28,346 for the base GX trim.
If you're buying used today, the 2018 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.

Exceptional driving experience. The most balanced, precision crafted steering wheel system of any cars I have ever owned (25 of them). Drives better than most acclaimed German machines out there.Mazda cars are very enjoyable to drive, yet these models are ones of the most underrated and undervalued vehicles yet. Amazing Mazda vehicles. They're excellent values, but folks have to give Mazda cars chances. Drive one. The issues I have with the current models are: 1). There's no 6 Speed Manual with the 2.5 Turbo AWD Premium Plus trim models. 2). Please, bring CD ( Compact Disc) entertainment back in all Mazdas. 3). Add colors to the interior design. It's too bland, monotonous, monochromatic, and boring. The only comparisons out there to the superb driving of Mazda vehicles are Nissan Altima SR, Audi S3 and BMW M340.

Reviewed a 2020 Mazda MAZDA3 on Sep 19, 2025
The Mazda 3 really shines compared to other compact cars because it feels so much more fun and engaging to drive, with sharp handling, responsive steering, and even the option for all-wheel drive or a turbo engine if you want more power. Inside, it feels more like a luxury car than an economy sedan, thanks to its quiet cabin, high-quality materials, and sleek design. On top of that, it’s packed with modern safety features and earns strong crash-test ratings, which adds a lot of peace of mind. The trade-offs are that the back seat and trunk aren’t the most spacious, the ride can feel a little firm on rough roads, and the higher trims can get pricey. When you compare it to other cars, the Mazda 3 is definitely more stylish and fun than the Toyota Corolla, though the Corolla has hybrids and a long reputation for reliability; it feels more upscale than the Honda Civic, though the Civic offers more space and resale value; and it’s nicer to drive than the Hyundai Elantra, even if the Elantra is usually cheaper at the entry level. Overall, the Mazda 3 is a great choice if you care about style, quality, and the joy of driving, rather than just getting the most space or the lowest price.

Mazdas are generally good value. Maybe not as refined as some of the Honda/Toyota models but just as reliable and generally cheaper.

Summary
With 9 currently listed for sale and an average price of $25,995 CAD, 55.6% of 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.67 / 10.
Why it stands out
The 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 stands out by delivering intrinsic value, especially when compared with traditional mainstream alternatives. It also benefits from Mazda’s compact-car focus in a lineup that, for this year, is down to just the MX-5 and the Mazda3. A new Platinum Quartz Metallic paint colour is available, adding a fresh visual option to an already stylish package.
What makes the 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 appealing is the way it blends style and driving enjoyment. It is described as fun to drive and backed by great safety ratings, which gives it broad appeal for buyers who want a compact car that feels more polished than many rivals. Owner feedback reinforces that impression, with praise for the comfortable and luxurious interior, impressive handling, strong performance, and available Bose stereo system.
There are trade-offs, though. The 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 is noted for poor fuel economy, a cramped back seat, and unintuitive technology. Those drawbacks mean it may not be the most practical choice for every shopper, but for buyers who value design, driving feel, and a more upscale atmosphere, it remains a distinctive option in the compact-car class.
