CarGurus Analysis: 2022 Mazda MAZDA3
overall

Summary
With 155 currently listed for sale and an average price of $22,831 CAD, 24.5% of 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.67 / 10.
Why it stands out
The 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 stands out by delivering intrinsic value, especially when compared with traditional mainstream alternatives. It also benefits from Mazda’s compact-car focus in a lineup that, for this year, is down to just the MX-5 and the Mazda3. A new Platinum Quartz Metallic paint colour is available, adding a fresh visual option to an already stylish package.
What makes the 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 appealing is the way it blends style and driving enjoyment. It is described as fun to drive and backed by great safety ratings, which gives it broad appeal for buyers who want a compact car that feels more polished than many rivals. Owner feedback reinforces that impression, with praise for the comfortable and luxurious interior, impressive handling, strong performance, and available Bose stereo system.
There are trade-offs, though. The 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 is noted for poor fuel economy, a cramped back seat, and unintuitive technology. Those drawbacks mean it may not be the most practical choice for every shopper, but for buyers who value design, driving feel, and a more upscale atmosphere, it remains a distinctive option in the compact-car class.

This car is beautiful, so far no problems reliability-wise, to be expected from a tried-and-true NA 4 cyl paired to a traditional automatic transmission (no cvt unlike the current corolla and civic autos!). This car drives great for what it is. Speaking for the FWD model, handling is direct and predictable and has good feedback even with stock tires (215/45r18s on my trim). Even though this car isn’t as powerful as the turbo model, it’s fast enough to still be very enjoyable to drive. At 6’0, I surprisingly fit in the backseat of the hatch even with the front seat all the way back (not super comfortably though) and my head doesn’t touch the ceiling. Would recommend anybody interested to test drive this car.

I love this car because of its simple yet luxurious interior and it’s smooth drive. Also love the 6 speed. Perfect daily driver with room for modifications.

By far the best car in its class for performance, luxury, and technology. The turbo engine combined with already excellent handling takes the already popular Mazda 3 to an elevated level.

I love the comfort of the interior, the seats molds around your body. It has a lot of nice features that I was looking for, sunroof, keyless entry,,heater seats and a great Bose stereo that blows your mind. I wish it came with a bigger spoiler of a different color than the car. My biggest change would be to put a black package on them. They look silly with black wheels and chrome trim, I am adding aftermarket black trim everywhere. The only other thing Is, I wish it looked a little more sporty. I bought the turbo and it has plenty of kick but could have used a little bit of a different design than the regular model. For the 32k price range it was a good value in today’s market if it was a little sportier looking.

| Year-Round High | $25,017 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $25,023 CAD |

Is the 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 a good car?
Yes — the 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.67/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.
Owners consistently praise the comfortable and luxurious interior, impressive handling, and strong performance, especially with the turbo engine. The available Bose stereo system also comes up as a favourite feature. In practical terms, that lines up well with a car that is meant to feel more polished than many mainstream compact alternatives.
The trade-offs are a cramped back seat and unintuitive technology, and the car is also described as poor on fuel economy. If you want a compact car that prioritises style and driving enjoyment over maximum practicality, this model year fits that brief well.
With 28.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still meaningful market opportunity if you shop carefully.
Is the 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback points to a dependable-feeling car with strong satisfaction around the interior, performance, and overall ownership experience. The expert evaluation also describes the Mazda3 as a car you can trust, with a refined, composed character that supports confidence over time.
Mazda Connected Services is complimentary for two years of ownership, which adds some useful ownership convenience. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about durability and more about whether the car’s technology and fuel use will suit your daily routine.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Mazda MAZDA3?
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The lineup spans sedan and hatchback body styles, with base versions focused on value and higher grades adding more equipment. The GT grades bring adaptive front headlights, Traffic Jam Assist, reverse automatic braking, and a surround-view camera system, so you should check whether the trim you are considering includes the features you want.
- Powertrain: You can find a 2.0-litre four-cylinder with 155 horsepower and 150 pound-feet of torque, a 2.5-litre four-cylinder with 186 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque, and a turbocharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder with up to 250 horsepower and 320 pound-feet of torque on premium fuel. The turbo version is paired with standard AWD and a six-speed automatic.
- Safety package: Blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard, while adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high-beam headlights cost extra on most versions. GT grades add more advanced equipment, including Traffic Jam Assist and a surround-view camera system.
- Infotainment: Mazda Connect uses an 8.8-inch static display, Bluetooth, steering wheel controls, and voice recognition. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are supported, and Mazda Connected Services is complimentary for two years.
- Fuel efficiency: The 2.0-litre engine uses 7.6 L/100 km combined, or 7.7 L/100 km with the manual transmission. The 2.5-litre non-turbo engine ranges from 7.8 to 8.6 L/100 km combined, while the turbo version uses 8.8 L/100 km in sedan form and 8.9 L/100 km in hatchback form.
Which 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 trim should I buy?
The 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 is offered in 3 trim levels: GX sedan, 2.5-litre four-cylinder, and turbocharged version.
Here's the short version:
- GX sedan: This is the most affordable entry point, and it gives you the base 2.0-litre engine with the best fuel economy in the lineup. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the Mazda3 and can live without the extra performance and equipment of the higher trims.
- 2.5-litre four-cylinder: This is the best-value choice for most shoppers because it adds stronger performance without jumping all the way to turbo pricing. It should suit you if you want a more balanced Mazda3 with broader everyday appeal.
- turbocharged version: This is the pick for you if you want the strongest acceleration, standard AWD, and the most upscale driving experience. It is the most expensive route, but it also delivers the most character.
GT grades get adaptive front headlights that swivel when you turn the steering wheel, plus Traffic Jam Assist, reverse automatic braking, and a surround-view camera system.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Mazda MAZDA3?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some confidence if you are patient.
- Deal availability: 28.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 143 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.41% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $22,909 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Mazda MAZDA3's resale value?
The current average of $22,919 CAD sits slightly below last year's $25,023 CAD.
That softer pricing suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, which can make resale planning a little more challenging if you are selling soon. On the other hand, a lower entry price can help keep the car attractive to future shoppers who want a well-equipped compact car without paying luxury-car money.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 safe?
The 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS and five-star ratings in every NHTSA assessment, including rollover resistance.
It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.
Blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard, while adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high-beam headlights are extra on most versions. GT grades add adaptive front headlights, Traffic Jam Assist, reverse automatic braking, and a surround-view camera system.
Should I buy a 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 28.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.41% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It combines strong safety ratings with a fresh Platinum Quartz Metallic paint colour.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $20,778 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $22,919 CAD average.
- It adds a turbocharged engine and leans into sharper performance.
Consider the 2023 if:
- At $25,244 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $22,919 CAD average.
- It adds SUV-like versatility with a hatchback layout and more cargo-friendly everyday use.
The bottom line: If you want the best mix of price, safety, and overall appeal, the 2022 is the strongest all-round choice. If you are more price-sensitive, the 2021 is worth a look; if you want a newer-feeling hatchback with added versatility, the 2023 is the better alternative.
