What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Mazda CX-5?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The CX-5 GX, GS, Kuro, and GT are the value-oriented trims if you want to save money and accept more leisurely acceleration. The Sport Design and Signature sit higher up the range for buyers who want stronger performance and more premium equipment. The Signature adds the most upscale cabin treatment, including premium Nappa leather upholstery, real wood trim, and polished metallic accents, while the top trim also gets body-colour lower exterior trim.
• Powertrain: The base 2.5-litre four-cylinder makes 187 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque, and all CX-5s have standard all-wheel drive. The turbo engine is the one to seek if you want stronger acceleration; it delivers up to 256 hp on premium fuel, or 227 hp on regular gas.
• Safety package: The standard i-Activsense suite includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. GT adds adaptive headlights, while Signature adds a surround-view camera system, front and rear parking sensors, automatic rear braking, a driver monitoring system, and Traffic Jam Assist.
• Infotainment: You get a 10.25-inch Mazda Connect display with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, text-messaging support, and Mazda Connected Services. The screen is not touch-sensing, and the system does not have natural voice recognition.
• Fuel efficiency: The base powertrain is rated at 9.3 L/100 km in combined driving, or 9.0 L/100 km when cylinder deactivation is equipped. The turbo engine is rated at 9.8 L/100 km combined.

Which 2022 Mazda CX-5 trim should I buy?

The 2022 Mazda CX-5 is offered in 6 trim levels: GX, GS, Kuro, GT, Sport Design, Signature.

Here's the short version:

• GX: This is the entry point if you want the CX-5’s core strengths at the lowest cost, but you’re also giving up the richer equipment and premium feel found higher up the range.
• GS: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it keeps the CX-5’s upscale character while staying on the more affordable side of the lineup.
• Kuro: Choose this if you want a more distinctive look and the added benefit of the Mi-Drive selector with Normal, Sport, and Off-Road settings.
• GT: This trim adds adaptive headlights and is the point where the CX-5 starts to feel more fully equipped for buyers who want extra convenience and safety polish.
• Sport Design: This is the better pick if you want stronger performance and more premium features, including access to the turbo engine and the Bose sound system.
• Signature: This is the top choice if you want the most luxurious CX-5, with the richest cabin materials and the fullest safety equipment list.

The safety package is comprehensive across the lineup, but the top trim gets the most advanced driver-assistance features.

What is the 2022 Mazda CX-5's resale value?

The current average of $27,827 CAD sits slightly below last year's $30,594 CAD.

That price movement suggests the CX-5 has become more accessible in the used market, which can help future sellers if they bought at a lower point in the cycle. It also means today’s buyers may be getting in at a more favourable valuation than shoppers did a year ago. If demand stays steady, the model’s strong reputation and premium-leaning appeal should help support resale interest over time.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2022 Mazda CX-5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.04% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Mazda’s updates make it feel more premium, quieter, and more refined than before.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $25,401 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $27,827 CAD average.
• It keeps the CX-5’s upscale feel while adding enhanced technology.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $29,981 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $27,827 CAD average.
• It stays current-looking, but adds little beyond a new paint option.

The bottom line: The 2022 is the sweet spot if you want the most polished version of this generation without paying the newer-year premium. If your priority is saving money, the 2021 is the better value play; if you want a newer model-year sticker, the 2023 is available, but it brings limited extra payoff.
