What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Mazda CX-5?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The GX, GS, Kuro, and GT are the trims aimed at buyers who want to save money and accept slightly more leisurely acceleration in exchange for slightly better fuel economy. The Sport Design and Signature sit higher up the range for buyers who want quicker acceleration and more premium equipment, with the Signature adding the most upscale touches.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.5-litre four-cylinder makes 187 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque, while the turbocharged version delivers much stronger output on premium fuel or regular fuel. All CX-5s have standard all-wheel drive, and the revised six-speed automatic is tuned for more responsive performance.
• Safety package: The standard i-Activsense suite includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. GT adds adaptive headlights, while Signature adds a surround-view camera system, front and rear parking sensors, automatic rear braking, a driver monitoring system, and Traffic Jam Assist.
• Infotainment: You get a Mazda Connect system with a 10.25-inch display, Bluetooth, standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, text-messaging support, and Mazda Connected Services. The screen is not touch-sensitive, and there is no natural voice recognition.
• Fuel efficiency: The standard powertrain is rated at 9.3 litres per 100 kilometres in combined driving, or 9.0 L/100 km when cylinder deactivation is equipped. The turbocharged engine is rated at 9.8 L/100 km combined.

What is the 2022 Mazda CX-5's resale value?

The current average of $27,669 CAD sits slightly below last year's $30,338 CAD.

That softer pricing can help you as a buyer today, but it also means a future seller may need to be realistic about expectations if market conditions stay similar. The CX-5’s premium feel, strong safety reputation, and broad appeal should help support demand, especially for well-equipped examples. Should I buy a 2022 Mazda CX-5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 29.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.80% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds premium-feeling updates, stronger safety, and a more refined drive.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $25,236 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $27,669 CAD average.
• It remains a competitive family SUV with a luxurious feel and a wealth of standard features.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $29,786 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $27,669 CAD average.
• It stays stylish and engaging, but adds little beyond a new paint option.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of value, refinement, and safety, the 2022 is the smart default. If your budget is tighter, the 2021 is the better price-first alternative.
