overall

Summary
With 85 currently listed for sale near North Vancouver, BC and an average price of $32,153 CAD, 34.1% of 2023 Mazda CX-5s for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2023 Mazda CX-5 4.86 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.17 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2023 Mazda CX-5 remains an appealing choice in its segment, with stylish design, a fun-to-drive character, and great safety ratings among its clear strengths. It also has a reputation for comfort, performance, and features, and owners often praise its stylish interior, high-quality finishes, user-friendly heads-up display, ride quality, and handling. Those qualities help it stand out as a compact crossover that feels more polished and engaging than many shoppers might expect.
At the same time, the 2023 Mazda CX-5 is living on borrowed time. The current-generation model has been on sale since 2017, and Mazda made no changes to the 2023 CX-5 beyond a new Rhodium White premium paint option. Practicality is less convincing, though, because its back seat is cramped, cargo space is limited, and its infotainment user interface is widely criticised. Some owners also note fuel economy as a drawback, which may matter more for drivers covering longer distances.

This was the car my daughter wanted, and I can see why. Sharp exterior, especially the black wheels and trim against the blue/gray paint- it really pops! The interior is just as sharp with loads of features that would cost extra in other manufactures. Engine performance is nice, with sport and normal modes to save gas. She is ecstatic about it so that makes me ecstatic. I talked to many Mazda owners and read lots of reports/reviews. So far, the word on the street about their reliability, performance, presentation, costs, etc... is spot on. I bought a brand new Toyota RAV4 for myself a few months ago. If you are considering an SUV like that, you should also check out the Mazda models. Highly recommend, and I might have bought a Mazda myself if I had known more about them!!

I had been told to stick to Honda or Toyota for a practical car but I was frustrated having to go higher trims to get my dealbreakers like keyless entry or power seats. I also hadn’t been a fan of SUVs but wanted more cargo space, so I was looking for hatchbacks, but they are so hard to find. Thankfully a friend with this car suggested I try it- I was floored to see how many reasonably priced barely used options I had! And more importantly, the BASE model has everything I could want- keyless entry, power seats, heated seats, a great screen, and so much cargo space. I was comfortable driving this IMMEDIATELY despite never having an SUV. The seats being leather trim with suede centers are truly the best of both worlds. And I could care less than it doesn’t have a touch screen, because the control knob is amazing. I love that the base model has all these perks without a moonroof, which I truly did not want. The only downside I can think of is a less than stellar fuel economy, but I just don’t drive long enough distances for that to be much of a concern for me personally..

2023 Mazda CX-5 Price Trends
CarGurus tracks the prices of millions of used car listings every year. See how the average price of 2023 Mazda CX-5 prices has changed over time.
See more price trendsHow much does the 2023 Mazda CX-5 cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $30,312 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $30,312 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $33,428 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $33,433 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −9.33% |
Prices have softened 9.33% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 720 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2023 Mazda CX-5 a good car?
Yes — the 2023 Mazda CX-5 earns a 4.86/5 user rating and a 7.17/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.
Owners consistently praise its comfort, performance, and features, along with the stylish interior, high-quality finishes, user-friendly heads-up display, ride quality, and handling. That lines up well with the CX-5’s appeal as a polished compact crossover that feels more premium than many rivals.
The trade-offs are clear: the back seat is cramped, cargo space is limited, and the infotainment interface is frustrating to use. In practical terms, this suits you best if you value driving enjoyment, cabin quality, and safety more than maximum space or tech simplicity.
Only 31.8% of listings are marked as good or great deals, so the market still rewards careful shopping.
Is the 2023 Mazda CX-5 reliable?
Owners rate it 4.86/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback also points to a dependable, trouble-free feel, with praise centred on comfort, performance, and features that hold up well over time. The CX-5’s refined driving character and quality interior materials reinforce that sense of something you can count on for the long haul.
Its performance tuning and solid road manners also support the impression of durability and everyday dependability. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about mechanical drama and more about whether the cramped rear seat and dated infotainment will still suit your needs.
What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Mazda CX-5?
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The CX-5 is stylish and assembled with high-quality materials, but the base version does not include the more upscale feel and equipment found higher up the range. The most expensive versions add features such as the surround-view camera system, front and rear parking sensors, rear low-speed automatic emergency braking, Traffic Jam Assist, and an Active Driving Display.
- Powertrain: You can choose between the standard 187-hp 2.5-litre four-cylinder and the available 256-hp 2.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder. Both use a six-speed automatic and standard AWD, but the turbo engine delivers much stronger acceleration.
- Safety package: Mazda bundles most of its i-Activsense driver-assistance technology as standard equipment. The 2.5 Turbo Signature adds the surround-view camera system, front and rear parking sensors, rear low-speed automatic emergency braking, and Traffic Jam Assist.
- Infotainment: The CX-5 uses a 10.25-inch display with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Mazda Connected Services. The interface is widely criticised, and the centre-console controls take time to learn.
- Fuel efficiency: The standard engine is rated at 9.0 L/100 km combined, while the turbo engine is rated at 9.8 L/100 km combined. In testing, the turbo version returned 11.0 L/100 km combined on a mountainous route.
Which 2023 Mazda CX-5 trim should I buy?
The 2023 Mazda CX-5 is offered in 6 trim levels: GX, GS, Kuro, GT, 2.5 Turbo Sport Design, 2.5 Turbo Signature.
Here's the short version:
- GX: This is the entry point if you want the CX-5’s core strengths at the lowest price, including the standard 187-hp engine, AWD, and the model’s polished driving feel. It makes sense if you care most about value and are comfortable giving up the extra convenience and luxury touches found higher up.
- GS: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds more everyday comfort and convenience without jumping into the pricier turbo models. If you want the sweet spot between price and equipment, this is the one to focus on.
- Kuro: Choose this if you want a more distinctive look and a step up in presentation while staying in the non-turbo range. It suits you if style matters and you still want a balanced, mainstream ownership experience.
- GT: This is the trim to target if you want a more upscale feel and more of the CX-5’s premium character without going all the way to the top. It’s a strong choice if you value comfort, refinement, and a richer feature set.
- 2.5 Turbo Sport Design: Pick this if you want the stronger turbocharged engine and a more powerful, more engaging drive. It’s the right fit if performance matters more than keeping running costs as low as possible.
- 2.5 Turbo Signature: This is the most luxurious and best-equipped version, with the extra safety and convenience features reserved for the top trim. It suits you if you want the fullest CX-5 experience and are willing to pay for it.
The safety package is broadly standard across the range, but the most advanced features are reserved for the 2.5 Turbo Signature.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Mazda CX-5?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some confidence if you compare listings carefully.
- Deal availability: 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 720 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.33% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $30,312 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2023 Mazda CX-5's resale value?
The current average of $30,312 CAD sits slightly below last year's $33,433 CAD.
That softer pricing suggests the CX-5 has become a more accessible used buy, which can help future sellers attract interest if they price competitively. At the same time, the current market shows that buyers are still willing to pay for the CX-5’s mix of style, safety, and driving enjoyment.
Because the model has strong owner satisfaction and a premium feel, it should remain appealing to shoppers who want something more polished than a typical compact crossover. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.86/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2023 Mazda CX-5 safe?
The 2023 Mazda CX-5 earns Top Safety Pick recognition from IIHS and five-star ratings in every NHTSA assessment, along with a four-star rollover resistance rating.
It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.
Mazda’s i-Activsense suite is bundled under one banner and includes most of the brand’s driver-assistance technology as standard equipment. The top trim adds the surround-view camera system, front and rear parking sensors, rear low-speed automatic emergency braking, and Traffic Jam Assist.
The main caveat is that the most advanced convenience and parking features are not standard on every trim. Even so, the CX-5’s crash-test results and broad safety coverage make it one of the model’s strongest selling points.
Should I buy a 2023 Mazda CX-5 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2023 if:
- 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.33% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.86/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It keeps the CX-5’s polished design, strong safety, and engaging driving character while adding only a new paint option.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $28,711 CAD, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $30,312 CAD average.
- It leans more strongly into premium feel and strong turbocharged performance.
Consider the 2024 if:
- At $32,700 CAD, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $30,312 CAD average.
- It brings continued refinement, a comfortable cabin, and strong everyday appeal.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, safety, and overall appeal, the 2023 is the sensible default. If you’re more price-sensitive, the 2022 is worth a close look; if you want the newest nearby option and can spend more, the 2024 is the cleaner upgrade path.
