What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Kia Sorento?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base LX+ is the most stripped-down version, while LX Premium adds more comfort and convenience equipment. Higher trims bring more upscale touches, and the SX stands out for features such as the Blind View Monitor.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.5-litre engine is the least satisfying choice, while the turbocharged 2.5-litre is the stronger option. Hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions are also part of the lineup if efficiency matters more to you.
• Safety package: The Sorento offers a suite that includes rear-seat reminder, Junction Assist, Highway Driving Assist, blind-spot monitoring, and lane keeping assist. The Blind View Monitor is exclusive to the SX, and the standard headlights are a weak point.
• Infotainment: LX+, LX Premium, X-Line, and EX use an 8-inch touchscreen, while other versions get a 10.25-inch display with navigation, satellite radio, Kia Connect services, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Wireless smartphone integration is on the base system, while the larger screen requires a cable for app connectivity.
• Fuel efficiency: The base engine is rated at 9.7 L/100 km combined, the turbo engine at 9.9 L/100 km combined, the hybrid at 6.6 L/100 km combined, and the plug-in hybrid at 3.0 Le/100 km combined after its electric range is used up.

Which 2022 Kia Sorento trim should I buy?

The 2022 Kia Sorento is offered in 4 trim levels: LX+, LX Premium, X-Line, and SX.

Here's the short version:

• LX+: This is the entry point, and it gives you the essentials, including the 8-inch touchscreen and the standard 2.5-litre engine. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the Sorento, but it is also the trim where you feel the most feature gaps.
• LX Premium: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds useful convenience features such as the wireless phone charger and a more complete everyday equipment set without jumping too far up the price ladder.
• X-Line: This is the trim to consider if you want the stronger turbocharged 2.5-litre engine and a more satisfying driving experience. It is the better pick if performance matters more to you than simply getting the cheapest Sorento.
• SX: This is the most feature-rich gas model in the lineup, with equipment such as the Blind View Monitor and the 12-speaker Bose audio system. It suits you if you want the most upscale Sorento experience.

The safety package is broad, but the standard headlights are a notable weak point across the lineup.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Kia Sorento?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 30.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 290 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.27% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $28,101 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Kia Sorento's resale value?

The current average of $28,148 CAD sits slightly below last year's $33,221 CAD.

That price decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the Sorento more attractive to used buyers today. For a future seller, that means resale value may be more sensitive to condition, mileage, and trim choice than it would be in a stronger pricing environment. Well-equipped versions and cleaner examples should hold up better with shoppers who want the Sorento’s family-friendly layout and available hybrid efficiency.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.64/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Kia Sorento safe?

The 2022 Sorento earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS and a four-star overall crash-test rating from NHTSA, with four-star ratings in frontal-impact protection for the driver and front passenger and for rollover resistance, and five-star ratings in all other NHTSA tests.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The Sorento includes safety technology such as rear-seat reminder, Junction Assist, blind-spot monitoring, lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and Highway Driving Assist. Highway Driving Assist is a Level 2 semi-autonomous system that helps maintain speed and lane position, while the Blind View Monitor is exclusive to the SX.

One caveat is the LED headlights, which receive a Poor rating and are standard on all trims in Canada.

Should I buy a 2022 Kia Sorento or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 30.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.27% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.64/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 stands out for the arrival of the Sorento Hybrid in Canada and the debut of the Sorento Plug-in Hybrid.

The bottom line: The 2022 Sorento is the right pick if you want the redesigned body, strong owner satisfaction, and the added appeal of hybrid and plug-in hybrid options. If you are especially price-sensitive, you may want to compare nearby model years and focus on the best-equipped example you can find within your budget.
