What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Laredo is the most basic version and uses cloth seats, while higher trims add more luxury and capability. Trailhawk is the off-road-focused choice, and Summit Reserve is the most luxurious version with premium quilted and stitched leather seats, heated, ventilated and massaging front seats, a McIntosh audio system, and a panoramic sunroof.
• Powertrain: You can choose a V6 or a V8, both paired with four-wheel drive and an 8-speed automatic transmission. The V6 is the more efficient choice and is described as the better pick for most buyers, while the V8 adds more power and towing capacity.
• Safety package: Active Driving Assist is the named driver-assistance suite, and it includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability plus lane-centring assistance. Standard equipment also includes blind spot monitoring, rear parking sensors, full-speed forward collision warning, and Intersection Collision Assist. Some advanced capability is not universal across the range.
• Infotainment: Uconnect 5 is standard, with over-the-air updates, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Amazon Alexa integration, SiriusXM 360L, voice recognition, and voice text reply capability. Most trims get an 8.4-inch touchscreen, while every version except Laredo can be upgraded to a 10.1-inch screen; Summit and Summit Reserve make that larger screen standard.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada estimates range from 11.3 L/100 km with the V6 to 14.1 L/100 km with the V8 in combined driving. The expert test drive also recorded 11.0 L/100 km with the V6 and Quadra-Trac I, and 13.8 L/100 km with the V8 and Quadra-Trac II.

Which 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee trim should I buy?

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee is offered in 7 trim levels: Laredo, Altitude, Limited, Trailhawk, Overland, Summit, and Summit Reserve.

Here's the short version:

• Laredo: This is the value-oriented starting point, and it makes sense if you want the Grand Cherokee’s core design, comfort, and capability without paying for luxury extras. It uses cloth seats and is described as basic but still good quality.
• Altitude: Choose this if you want a step up from the entry trim without jumping into the pricier luxury end of the range. It keeps the Grand Cherokee formula intact while adding more presence than the base model.
• Limited: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it balances equipment and price well, and it is also the starting point for the optional front passenger interactive display. It suits you if you want a more upscale feel without going all the way to the premium trims.
• Trailhawk: Pick this if off-road capability is your priority. It adds Quadra-Drive II, an electronic locking rear differential, Quadra-Lift air suspension, skid plates, all-terrain tyres, a front sway-bar disconnect, Selec-Speed off-road cruise control, and a forward-facing off-road camera.
• Overland: This trim is the right middle ground if you want more luxury and the more capable Quadra-Trac II system, which adds a two-speed transfer case with 4-Hi and 4-Lo settings.
• Summit: This is the upscale choice for buyers who want a more premium cabin and the option of Quadra-Drive II. It is a strong fit if you want luxury with added capability.
• Summit Reserve: This is the top luxury pick, with the most premium cabin treatment and standard Quadra-Drive II. It is the trim to choose if you want the most lavish Grand Cherokee experience.

Safety-wise, the Grand Cherokee’s ADAS package is a strong part of the story, and Active Driving Assist is a key feature to look for if you want the most advanced driver assistance.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

The market looks moderately favourable if you are a selective buyer.

• Deal availability: 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 580 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.39% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $34,291 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee's resale value?

The current average of $34,291 CAD sits slightly below last year's $39,142 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can be good news if you are buying now but less ideal if you plan to sell soon. A softer market usually means future sellers may need to price more competitively to attract attention. Even so, the Grand Cherokee’s broad appeal, premium feel, and strong capability should help support demand over time.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.86/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee safe?

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Jeep equips it with a strong set of advanced driver assistance systems, including standard blind spot monitoring, rear parking sensors, full-speed forward collision warning, and Intersection Collision Assist. Active Driving Assist adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability and lane-centring assistance, giving you a more advanced hands-on driving aid. Jeep also says the structure uses extensive aluminium and high-strength steel, which supports the safety story.

One caveat is that the system can disconnect if curves are too tight, so you still need to stay engaged and ready to take over.

Should I buy a 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.39% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.86/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The redesign brings a major upgrade in technology and sophistication while keeping the Grand Cherokee’s capability intact.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $29,676 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $34,291 CAD average.
• It is the final version of the previous generation, so you may prefer its familiar two-row layout and older formula.

The bottom line: Choose the 2022 if you want the redesigned Grand Cherokee’s stronger tech, more premium feel, and broader capability. If your priority is spending less, the 2021 is the better value play, especially if you are comfortable with the older generation’s character.
