What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Laredo is the most basic version, while Trailhawk adds off-roading equipment and capability, and Summit Reserve brings the most luxury. Lower trims use a more functional matte-black finish, while higher trims can have gloss-black controls that are harder to use because of reflections.
• Powertrain: You can choose a V6 or a V8, both paired with 4WD and an 8-speed automatic. The V6 is the more efficient choice and is the expert pick between the two engines, while the V8 adds more power and towing ability.
• Safety package: Active Driving Assist adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability and lane-centring assistance. Standard equipment also includes blind spot monitoring, rear parking sensors, full-speed forward collision warning, and Intersection Collision Assist. Some advanced features are not universal across the range.
• Infotainment: Uconnect 5 is standard, with an 8.4-inch touchscreen in most trims and a 10.1-inch screen standard on Summit and Summit Reserve. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and the system supports over-the-air updates.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada estimates range from 11.3 L/100 km with the V6 to 14.1 L/100 km with the V8 in combined driving.

Which 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee trim should I buy?

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee is offered in 7 trim levels: Laredo, Altitude, Limited, Trailhawk, Overland, Summit, and Summit Reserve.

Here's the short version:

• Laredo: This is the value-focused starting point if you want the Grand Cherokee’s core style and capability without paying for extra luxury features. It suits you best if you care more about the SUV’s fundamentals than premium extras.
• Altitude: This trim adds a more distinctive look while staying close to the lower end of the range. It makes sense if you want a bit more presence without jumping too far up the price ladder.
• Limited: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more comfort and tech while staying below the luxury-focused upper trims. It also unlocks the optional front passenger interactive display.
• Trailhawk: Choose this if off-road capability is your priority. It gets Quadra-Drive II, an electronic locking rear differential, Quadra-Lift air suspension, skid plates, and off-road-focused hardware.
• Overland: This trim is the step up if you want a more premium feel and the more capable Quadra-Trac II system. It balances comfort and capability well.
• Summit: This is for you if you want a more upscale cabin and the option of Quadra-Drive II. It leans heavily into luxury.
• Summit Reserve: This is the most luxurious choice, with premium quilted and stitched leather seats, heated, ventilated and massaging front seats, a McIntosh audio system, and a panoramic sunroof.

Trailhawk and Summit Reserve come standard with Quadra-Drive II, while Summit can have it as an option.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

• Deal availability: 34.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 600 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.54% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $33,408 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee's resale value?

The current average of $33,408 CAD sits slightly below last year's $38,199 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the model has become more accessible for used buyers, which can make it easier for future sellers to attract attention if they price competitively. Because the current average is still within a relatively tight year-round range, well-kept examples should remain marketable. Strong owner satisfaction can help support demand when you eventually sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee safe?

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Jeep equips it with blind spot monitoring, rear parking sensors, full-speed forward collision warning, Intersection Collision Assist, and Active Driving Assist with adaptive cruise control and lane-centring assistance. The structure also uses extensive aluminium and high-strength steel, which supports the safety story. A key caveat is that the review notes the system can disconnect if curves are too tight, so you still need to stay engaged.

Should I buy a 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 34.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.54% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It brings a redesigned cabin, stronger technology, and broad capability across road and trail.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $29,115 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $33,408 CAD average.
• It offers the familiar older formula with a spacious interior, smooth ride, strong power, and off-road ability.

The bottom line: If you want the newer design, better tech, and a more refined all-round package, the 2022 is the better pick. If your priority is saving money and you’re comfortable with the older generation’s formula, the 2021 is the value play.
